    March 2012 Ring Magazine

At a magazine stand today, I happened to see the March issue of Ring magazine, "the Bible of Boxing." I glanced through it and there wasn't a single article on the Klitschkos or even the heavyweight division.

    Gary Carter

Yes, I used to read this all the time. Gary Carter, like Garvey, played up to the media, which was supposedly a fault. Not many minded O.J. Simpson doing the same thing.

There is a piece in today's Washington Post by black columnist Jason Reid titled "Bryce Harper Needs To Grow Up."

Branch didn't have it in his hands as Welker did.

    Tiger Woods

When Muhammad Ali won back the title from Leon Spinks in 1978, the MSM gushed that Ali was "the most popular human being on the planet." Some even wrote of all the endorsements he would get. However, I read somewhere about this time that Toyota was thinking of using Ali as an endorser until...

Cold Hard Football Facts (http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com) top story is "Super Bowl Hangover Pt. 2: From Bradying to Welker." The story says both Brady and Welker were at fault on the 2 and 11 pass with 4 minutes left. It supposedly stemmed from the Patriots inability to "stretch the field"...

    Superbowl XLVI

Would you have preferred an Eagles-Ravens Super Bowl with Michael Vick as the MVP?

    Superbowl XLVI

Thanks. I repeat, when the Super Bowl is on the line you have to make that catch. Sometimes an excellent receiver like Welker doesn't, which is a part of football. By the way, if Welker continues in 2012 to catch passes as he's done the last few years, it will be forgotten.

    Superbowl XLVI

On this Bigunreal and I agree, namely the safety against Brady. I've never seen a safety called on a pass far down the field. It surprised me when the officials called it a safety. They might have given Brady the benefit of the doubt, but they didn't. As for the coverage of Welker's drop, he...

    Superbowl XLVI

Thanks for the comment. That's what I meant. It should also be pointed out that the Patriots lost this game in the FIRST quarter. The safety put them in a hole and they did nothing on offense in the first quarter, falling behind 9-0.

    Superbowl XLVI

Regarding Welker's drop, a great receiver has to make that catch with the Super Bowl on the line.

    Superbowl XLVI

Absolutely. A few years ago Eli was far more despised by the DWFs than Tom Brady. They eagerly proclaimed him to be be a bust.

    Superbowl XLVI

Yes. You lose a game by what happened in the first quarter as much as by what happens in the last two minutes of the game.

    Welker's drop was a killer.

    Superbowl XLVI

A week ago I was watching Vinnie Politan's HLN Prime News show and the Super bowl came up. Politan declared that "many men" resent Tom Brady because "he's too pretty." Another reason was, believe it or not, "men are jealous of Tom Brady because he gets to see Gisele Bundchen naked."

The MSM wants the Giants to win. They've even been writing and saying nice things about Eli Manning.

    Joe Namath HBO Documentary

Namath was criticized around 1966 for being 4-F and getting big money to play football. You'd be surprised how many big name pro football players were 4-F in those days. According to Pete Gent, the Cowboys bribed the doctors to fail their high draft choices' draft physicals. In 1960, Joe...

    Joe Namath HBO Documentary

You're right. I first started following pro football around 1958 (age 8) and Namath was the first QB with a lightning-fast release who could put it on a line down field right on the money. One of the best parts of the film is the 1971 49er-Jet game. Namath hadn't played since early in the 1970...

    Joe Namath HBO Documentary

Tonight (Saturday) at 9pm ET, HBO premieres "Namath." We've mentioned before that Joe Namath was the last white athlete who was considered "Charismatic" by the media. He was seen as a major cultural figure of the 1960's. On the other hand the film shows what a phenomenal athlete Namath was...

    Peyton Hillis

Funny thing, there was a time when Al Davis' Raiders would have grabbed Peyton Hillis. In the 1970's, Marv Hubbard and Mark Van Eeghen were the main Raider ball carriers from the fullback position. Also Pete Banaszak was a reserve who played a lot. The controversy about Hillis this year would...
