Proving that vowels are overrated, Kszczot was great at Bydoszcz. Despite heavy winds (killer in lap races), he ran 1:44.3. That's a smoking time under still conditions, but with high winds it might be equal to a 1:42x. http://www.iaaf.org/news/newsid=60212.html also...

    High School track meets

Back to Austin Mudd. It is now confirmed that he ran the #1 times in the country in both the mile and the 800 in the space of an hour. And that 400 relay leg? 47.48, which would nearly be fast enough to get him a scholarship as a 400 runner. Mother of God. I've never heard of a night like...

    High School track meets

The BIG high school news this morning is that some kid named Austin Mudd (with a name like that, he can't go wrong)--heretofore completely unknown on the national scene--put on a mid-distance display like the world has rarely seen. Going into the mile, he knew he had to save energy for two...

    2011 outdoor season

Pure disappointment from the Pre last night. First Galen Rupp didn't run. He has asthma, and the pollen count was dangerous. Second, Solinsky tried to run with a nagging hamstring problem and had to drop out mid-race. He was seriously upset. In the post race interview, he said he would regret...

    2011 outdoor season

Update on the Pre-Fontaine: Looks like Rupp is out of the 2 mile and into (Friday's) 10K. Chris Solinsky also appears to be switching to the 10k. Look for the US record to go down. And if one of these guys actually wins the race it would be huge. Wheating seems to be leaning 800, rather than...

Here's an article on Nick Symmonds. Sounds like he's in the best shape of his career and aiming for the Worlds: http://www.registerguard.com/web/sports/26319578-41/symmonds-800-championships-elite-pre.html.csp

    2011 outdoor season

Just wanted to alert everyone that there's a great meet this Saturday, the Prefontaine, and it will be broadcast on NBC. Notably: 110 hurdles: Andy Turner and Liu Xiang take on bloated roider David Oliver. 400: Jeremy Wariner, hopefully recovered from his leg injury, runs, along with Kevin...

Results from Ostrava: 1) As noted, Van Zyl continues to dominate, and the fact that he equaled his national record is significant, as he earlier ran it at altitude and today at sea level. 2) Connaughton 20.65 in the 200. 3) Jordan Boase a close third in the 400 at 45.34. 4) Jeff Risely ran a...

"Rocket" Ramil Guliyev 9.97 and 19.76 (World Champion 2017 over 200 meters)

Hot damn--he's back! Please post any links you can find (especially to videos but articles and results, too).

    2011 outdoor season

Results from Hengelo: Pickering improved a little to 10.23 in heats, but then finished last in the finals, 10.38 against so-so competition. It was a glass half full/empty kind of day. Meanwhile, Kszczot, the young Pole, won the 800, beating Lalang and many others in a high quality field--a...

Whoops. I just found out that I accidentally pasted the wrong link yesterday. That was an article about eczema I'd found for a friend. Here is the link to the race (look for the B race 1500): http://losseveter.nl/blog/alle-uitsl*gen-van-nga-race-videos/

Just putting that Scheepers time in perspective. It's better than the all-time high school record, if the Milesplite list is accurate.

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Having Bolt start his season so poorly (for him) was huge. Based on his comments, LeMaitre's confidence has just gone through the roof, because neither Bolt nor Powell could leave him in the dust yesterday. Now LeMaitre feels like he belongs.

And there's more. At the same meet where 17 yr old Grice ran a 3:44 1500, Martijn Scheepers, also born in 1993 reeled off a 1:47 800, astonishing for that age: It's in the 800 m "A" Race: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/press.office/press.release/item/1142847518

We may have mentioned him before, but if not, I want to add the name Charlie Grice here. British. Only 17 yrs old but ran a splendid 3:44 yesterday, great for his age. The video is in the B race of the 1500 at this link: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/press.office/press.release/item/1142847518

    2011 outdoor season

Some notes from the Rome event: 1) THey didn't show the other 100, but Jay Conn won in, I think, 10.31. He had no one to push him to a better time. Blum finished mid-pack at a dreadful 10.62. That's not even a decent high school time in the US (Joe Fisher, for example, would smoke him). 2) The...

    Jamaican Sprinting.

Maybe I shouldn't revive this thread, but Bolt has apparently doubled up on the roids this season. Now the only way he can be beat is if he starts to get all kinds of roider injuries: http://www.dagbladet.no/2011/05/24/sport/friidrett/usain_bolt/16649682/

    2011 outdoor season

JC doesn't have anyone to push him in that race. Given the way he's run so far this year, he should have been bumped into the main event. On the plus side, though, maybe JC can drag Christian Blum to a great time. This is looking like a fun meet, and if I have some down time, I may try to watch...

    2011 outdoor season

Coming up this Thursday: the Diamond League meet in Rome. Not a lot of guys to pull for (I hate these diamond league lineups; they are 90% Kenyan and Jamaican), but a few: LeMaitre in the 100, obviously. J. Borlee and Rooney in the 400. Hession in the 200, although I suspect he's overmatched...

And here's a new discovery for the Watch List: Jack Galpin, an Oregon recruit, who looks to be another Brady Gehret type. He just dominated the state championships in the 200 and 400. That 200 time of 21.2 is especially studly for a high school kid...

Nice early season results at the Occidental College meet yesterday (video on Flotrack). Under the 800 thread, I've already mentioned the stunner 1:44 run by UCLA's Cory Primm (this puts him ahead of Andrews and Loxsom). Another fine 800 was run by Australia's 1500 meter man, Jeff Risely, in...
