800 meters

Time to start getting really excited about our young 400 pool. Not only do we have Loxsom, Andrews, Wheating, and Ryan Martin as outstanding young prospects, but it seems that I have been underrating UCLA's Cory Primm, who ran a spectacular 1:44 to defeat professional competition yesterday. It...

"Rocket" Ramil Guliyev 9.97 and 19.76 (World Champion 2017 over 200 meters)

On the other hand, at least the ban only applies to international events where he would be representing Turkey. Doesn't he have a regular meet coming up soon?

    Craig Pickering

The Pickering stories just make me sad. If he were juicing like the Jamaicans (and give me a break, Jamstar! Just because they love their mothers, give to charities, are kind to children, and cry at sad movies doesn't mean those top sprinters--male and female--aren't the most juiced human beings...

    2011 outdoor season

Stacked 2-mile field at the Prefontaine classic coming up. Christ Thompson of Britain will be there, as will Matt Tegenkamp, Chris Solinsky, and Galen Rupp, all trying to beat the Kenyans. Also, can Lukas Verzbicas break the h.s. record for the distance...

    Barrett Nugent

Nugent's a stud, but his SEC-winning time was two-tenths slower than the times being run by H.S. Senior, Jonathan Cabral recently. Cabral is the future! http://articles.latimes.com/2011/apr/16/sports/la-sp-mt-sac-track-20110417

    Watch list

Not sure where to put this one (I don't believe we've dedicated a thread to longer distances, as woeful as they have been), so we'll just add Brit Chris Thompson to the old watch list: <a...

    800 meters

With all the great young 800 guys out there (especially Loxsom, Andrews, and Wheating in the US, but there are some great Polish runners, too), it's high time we had a thread dedicated to the half-mile. And even though Loxsom handily won the Big Ten Championship today, there's only one link that...

    2011 outdoor season

I must admit that I'm stunned by Shane Crawford's time. I didn't think he could reach that level. Makes me wish that Connaughton would race again soon, because he was off to a monster start a few weeks ago. Anyway, the 400 was indeed weak this weekend (other than Wariner, Gehret sat out the...

    2011 outdoor season

Speaking of hurdlers (normally not my interest, but they're making the most waves right now), Andy Turner just beat Bershawn "Batman" Jackson and some other top runners at the 200m street event in Manchester. I have no idea why LeMaitre doesn't try an event like that, which would be perfect for...

    2011 outdoor season

This just in: Barrett Nugent is a beast. He just won his second consecutive SEC hurdles championship. They are streaming the SEC championships live on ESPN3 (not a lot to look for, though). Nugent knocked down nine of the ten hurdles and even stumbled after the second hurdle, but still ran down...

Wariner is back and may threaten 43.19!

In the only article I've seen, Wariner is said to have stopped after 80 meters, complaining of pain in his lower back. I can't imagine confusing lumbar pain for a hamstring pull. Hopefully, it's the back, because he can recover from that more quickly.

Good news--according to this pre-race article, Fisher will be attending Auburn on a track scholarship: http://www.kansas.com/2011/04/23/1819544/fishers-speed-gets-test.html

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

On top of the bad wind, he would have had no competition at all to push him along in that race. A very promising 200 to open the season.

Wow! Have the other guys even finished the race yet? Fisher absolutely smoked them. I hope it was all wind legal, as it surely be one of the best hs times in the country this year.

Some promising results for our young watch-listers this weekend: 1) Robby Andrews and Cas Loxsom, two incredible young 800 studs, went head-to-head on the anchor legs of the Penn Relays 4 by 800 relay. Earlier in the meet, Cas had split the best 400 time of anyone in the sprint medley relay...

More from the Penn Relays. Astonishingly, Shane Crawford (who has never really impressed me) finished with the second highest time out of the 100m heats. A nice achievement, although I think the best runners are in the relays rather than the individual events.

    2011 outdoor season

Holy Moly! Get this: Penn State just won the Sprint Medley Relay at the Penn Relays! Now, if you don't realize how exciting that is: There were 27 colleges entered, including mega-powerhouses Florida (with NCAA's top 100 man, Jeff Demps) and allegedly unbeatable Texas A&M. The Penn State...

Scrolling through those results, it looks like there was another race called the "Gold Backmarkers Invitation Handicap 120 meters," which Rouge-Serret won. Collins was third. 400 man Offereins was sixth. And Matt Davies seventh. Craig Mottram was unable to run down two runners with 300 meter...

Not only did Crawford win the 100, but Yuri Ratomski won the 200 (Crawford second). Not bad for a meet called the "Jesse Owens Classic."
