Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

A "flying 100m" of 9.14 into a -1.0m wind is superb. Remember, a healthy Tyson Gay's flying 100 was 8.86 with a 1.5 tailwind. That's a 2.5m wind differential, but only .28 difference in time. This is very promising for LeMaitre's future in the 200, if he builds up his speed endurance.

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Christophe ran into a 1.0 meter headwind. Now to put that time into perspective, go the this page and look at the previous times run in the 150 by illustrious runners over the years. Most have had tailwinds, and virtually no runners (and only big stars are ever invited) ever broke 15. Heck...

    2013 Outdoor Season

On a cold wet day at the NY diamond league meet, the best race by far was by a high school kid, Ben Saarel, from Utah, who has had the most extraordinary season this year. He blew past one of the best (most likely THE best) high school mile field ever assembled and won by a wide margin in 4:02...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Hang on guys! We'll know more when we get to see a video (please post as soon as you find one) and read about the conditions, but one thing is clear: Christophe ANNIHILATED a good field. He left Dwain Chambers so far back, it's ridiculous. Even Kim Collins, long time Jamaican star, finished a...

    2013 Outdoor Season

Weird sprinting results early in the season: With disallowable tailwinds, we've had Martin Keller 9.99 Julian Reuss 10.00 Richard Kilty 10.01 But with headwinds, we've had: LeMaitre 10.17 Tumi 10.19 There are all kinds of calculators for how much wind affects performance, but suffice it to...

    Mary Cain

Any time you get frustrated about what's happening in sports, just reflect on the upcoming revolution in women's track as an extraordinary group of young women will soon be coming into their own: sprinters Hannah Cunliffe and Marybeth Sant, mid-distance stars like Amy Weissenbach and (England's)...

Thanks for the update. I feel like (at this stage) Simon has proven himself a bit more consistently than Ryan Gorman or the Danish kid, although their 100m times for the same age are even faster. Ultimately, I think Simon is a 200-400m runner, but I'm not second guessing his coach's decision...

    2013 Outdoor Season

Jenna Prandini is no longer simply a track hottie. She's quickly becoming one of the best athletes in America. At the Pac-12 championships, she finished FIRST in the 100m, FIRST in the 4 x 100, third in the 200, and fifth in the long jump. I wouldn't be surprised if she was the top performer...

Do you have a video of the race? I didn't even realize he was running this week.

Brilliant--I gave the kid the wrong name and had the wind blowing the wrong direction. I should be a sports reporter! (I'll try to edit my original post)

    2013 Outdoor Season

Some pretty big results yesterday: 1) MaryBeth Van Sant ran a sick 11.38 100m yesterday, making her NUMBER ONE IN THE US. 2) Distance phenom Mary Cain broke yet another record (ho hum) yesterday, running an unreal 2:01.68 800m, and the 800 isn't really her event. Both Mary and Marybeth are...

    2013 Outdoor Season

More from the weekend. Two of our favorite young 800m specialists shone at Penn. Cas Loxsom was named male collegian of the meet for his two splendid relay legs in the 4 by 800 and DMR. Laura Roesler--she who is top class at virtually any distance--ran a stunning 2:02 low leg on the 4 by 8...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

The weather was beautiful, no excuses there. Warm, but not hot. Interesting, though, that D'Angelo Cherry, whose junior PR was exactly the same as CL's, and who is the same age as CL, and who ran a 6.49 60 indoors this year, did even worse. For some reason, the times were poor.

    Hannah Cunliffe

I wouldn't make any assumptions about the bullying. The fact is, junior high girls are mean, mean. Heck, I'm a grown man, and I wouldn't want to have to deal with them. I think Hannah's parents should stick her back in school and allow her to sort things out. She's a great kid, but overly...

    2013 Outdoor Season

That's a great time by HC. Hard to believe she's still a junior in high school. Could you imagine if she went to Oregon, and the NCAA's top 4 x1 were to consist of Hannah, Marybeth Van Sant, and Jenna Prandini? Anyway, some noteworthy performances from yesterday: 1) Nick Willis ran the fast...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Wow, he's still just not there, is he? I really don't know what's happened to him over the past couple of years. Apparently, he's eating better and training harder, but, unless he really eased up and jogged the last 10 meters, this is another disappointing start. A win is nice, but there was...

    2013 Outdoor Season

Various results from yesterday: Marybeth Sant swept the 100 and 200 at the Oregon relays. Times: 11.8 and 24.31. I haven't seen a video, but the times do indicate she won both races by wide margins. Hannah Cunliffe also competed at the relays, but she ran against in the college division...

ryan gorman--faster, yes, faster than Usain Bolt at same age

It's about time the English renewed their once-great tradition in sprint. And now they've got the runner to do it. Ryan Gorman, less than a year after taking up running as a sport, clocked an INDOOR 200m faster than Usain Bolt could run OUTDOORS at the same age. And, oh, yeah, Gorman didn't...

marybeth sant (you won't believe this)

Sheesh--hate to see a young girl caught up like this, even though I know nothing about her personally. I have some comments: 1) This is depressingly typical that everyone (even most on this board) takes every negative expression as a racial comment. Anyone can scroll back, search my posts...

    2013 Indoor Track Season Results

Jack, you seem to have left the best results for me to deliver: 1) Blonde bombshell Emma Coburn won the mile. 2) The Dartmouth Dart Abby D'agostino completed the nearly impossible 3k/5k double, winning one on Friday night and the other on Saturday night, defeating runners from Kenya, among...

    Mary Cain

Mary Cain, age 16 just capped off her record-setting indoor season, by winning the US Indoor Championship in the mile. Note: this was a high school championship. This was for the professionals. It was a strange race, incidentally. Mary was under strict orders to run tactically. Apparently...

    2013 Indoor Track Season Results

Erik Sowinski, who earlier this year set the US record in the 600, followed up by winning the 800m US indoor championship title yesterday. Nice run, just beating Robby Andrews. Meanwhile, Will Leer completed an impressive double--winning both the 3k and the mile--despite the championships...

    Galen Rupp--As Important as Lemaitre

Here's a video of Rupp's last lap in breaking the American Record for the 3000. Would have been even faster if he hadn't had to constantly take the second lane to pass lapped runners.
