j41181, This NBA lockout is supposed to be brutal and the entire season may be in jeopardy. I think that PEAK PRO SPORTS might be in, and, if the NBA comes back at all it might be a shell of its former self. It looks like the NBA started out as a merger between regional pro basketball associations, some in the northeast, with the others being in the Midwest. Then in the Seventies the NBA merged with the ABA. This time, however the NBA might be relegated to a minor league sport or it might split off into regional basketball leagues. The huge salaries and culture of the NBA is wearing then and the NBA killed goodwill generated by a great playoffs. And1 is doing well as a pure play on streetball. That kind of play turns off some fans, or, just as bad, makes them apathetic. Another big problem that the league has is that it has too many teams. Too many small market teams that can only survive in "Boom Times". There are only a few teams in mega media markets with the rest being in small and mid-sized markets. The long-term economics don't look good for the league and the NBA may be better off going back to 22 or 23 teams which was the size of the league in the early Eighties.
