Asian performers

I am glad none of these young men listed are half breeds like a few others are that compete as Japanese...

I hope Puripol Boonson can get some great times at the upcoming Asian games, just to see another non African in the top list.

Does anyone know whatever happened to Sorato Shimizu?

FYI there is a female Chinese sprinter named Chen Yujie who is not even 18 yet who is lighting up the track. She has clocked a legal 11.04 recently at the Chinese national games. If she is actually 17 and running clean she is a phenom on the rise.

here she is at same Games last year at 16 - i will indeed be watching her progress. She was the world under 18 leader in 2025 and became 4th fastest world all-time with that 11.10. She manages 5 strides per second.

With 1.4 billion people there must be lots of young Chinese people who could sprint well. As people become more affluent I expect we'll see more instances. Working in the fields all day allows neither the energy, time nor money to pursue or even watch athletics

the worlds site shows a 11.08 (0.7) recently - not a 11.04 (yet).
Even so, if she was 3 days younger she'd be 2026 world under 18 leader - as she was last year with her 11.10 (4th best all time).
Actually at 16 and 10 months in 2025 she was formally world under 18 leader. Phenom!

Also her other PBs: 60m 7.24 and 200m 22.87 ... so a great start and great endurance too

the thing that stands out about her is her physique, she is not tall, average leg length for her height but runs effortlessly. She has serious fast twitch muscles and springs in her legs. But she looks older than her almost 18 years, Chinese women always look much younger than they are, she looks mid twenties facially. I will be keeping a watch on her progression.

I wonder it looked like a face full of "confidence and self belief", a look that rarely comes in one's teens. Anyhow, I'll certainly be watching her. What great times across the 3 distances for someone so young and slight

All the youth need is role models that look like them. Asia is no different from any other continent.

She is an amazing talent with alot of upside potentially. Hopefully she isn't one of many young sprinters that peaks young and then
fizzles out. I remember having high hopes for Kristoffer Hari as just 1 example. Countless sprinters of every color peak and then vanish.
I doubt she will but you never know. Hoping for the best for her.

I have never heard of Chinese junior track and field athlete being an age cheat only the East Africans have been notorious for having freaks running near world record times as "18" year old when in fact they are closer to 25.

There was a running joke that Elliud Kipchoge was 50 when he was winning Olympic golds and setting the marathon world record playing on this historical fact...

PS Chinese gymnasts have been underage at the Olympics and World Championships because of the age minimums. Some of their pixie looking gymnasts have looked like Asiatic versions of Jon Benet Ramsey at beauty contests.
