I see the Slovakian lady Zapletalova ran a nice 52.90 to win the Euros yesterday.
She has a 52.30PB so a very good competitor for Jaeger if she tried 400H

Amy slowed up right before the finish line. Was that because she was completely gassed, or because she knew she was going to win? Looked to me like the race was too close to let up but sprinters deal in hundredths of seconds and my guess is that she knew she had the win in the bag.

Man I love seeing White sprinters winning races and just competing at the highest levels and we have more world class ones now, both men and women, than has been the case for quite a while.

Yeah I noticed that too. She seemed to start rolling a bit at the end. Possibly feeling the pressure from Asher-Smith in the lane next to her; Amy overtook her on the home straight as expected but Asher-Smith didn't give up and kept coming. Possibly a bit of fatigue after the 100m. Possibly she knew she had it, but even so in a big final you'd want to get the best time.

Anyway, the win is what matters. 22.18 slowing up at the end suggests that a sub-22 time is not far off. Really hope she can stay fit for the world champs and Olympics over the next two years.
 
Hunt needs to go sub 22 to really establish herself as a serious world level contender against the top ten. I think she has a bit of I'm hot mentality. She needs to throw that in the garbage and focus solely on being the best not the hottest. Now having said that she is improving every-time out and is building mental fortitude to take her to the next level. In this race I was impressed by the Swiss funner Hoenke who closed on the top 3 like a freight train but left it too late, once she gets her timing better she will be much closer to making the top 3 every-time out.

I noticed that - I'll have to check thoroughly, but I was thinking as her 100s have become faster her 200s may have suffered just a little. It must be tough to get things in perfect balance. Or she was just tired by lots of competition

she has been trying to put on the confident face that we see in so many American and Jamaican women sprinters. Although most of the sprinters we see now seem to spend a lot of time blowing kisses to the camera, showing off the nails etc :confused:.
I think Flo-Jo got that ball rolling.
I remember at the time much preferring the Evelyn Ashford quiet, professional, pensive face - with no histrionics thrown in

At least no hideous Swoboda skin markings ... YET.
But I'm just an old fuddy-duddy who doesn't think we need fashion shows, pop music blaring at meets etc- excitement should come from the anticipation and watching great performances ....bah humbug!

In an interview after the race she said she'd been having an issue with low blood pressure recently, which can make her feel a bit faint at the end of a 200. Hopefully that will sort itself out. She's got the medals (silver at worlds, double gold here), next step is to get that sub-22.

Re "I'm hot", imho she just seems like quite an outgoing, gregarious personality who enjoys her racing, and she's spoken of the need to be confident and project confidence. I get a positive vibe from her, not an arrogant/negative one.
 
Not the best results today. Keely Hodgkinson beaten by Werro: she's getting a bit of a reputation as a silver queen. And no good guys in the 200m. Sad to see so many negroes representing Germany. Merkel's treachery and the ******* Plan coming to fruition. Hopefully AfD can have something to say about that.

At least the GOAT Karsten Warholm came through in the 400H. Streets ahead of the competition in a championship record 46.63. I fancy his chances at the worlds and olympics. And the Norwegian "row" celebration has transferred from football to athletics!
 
Heptathlon will be one to watch tomorrow. Several contenders near each other overnight. Kate O'Conner of Northern Ireland, who just won Commonwealth gold, marginally behind the Dutch and Polish athletes. Might go down to the final 800m.
