Chicago Bears General Thread

Bears offensive players say Fields is not the answer - one of the few white players on the Bears, Cole Kmet, blasts Justin Fields. Kmet say Fields couldn't or "wouldn't" throw him the ball. Sounds to me like Fields, in my opinion, may be an anti-white racist who wouldn't throw to Kmet even when he's open.

"I have it from a number of sources, that not everybody on the Bears offense is convinced Justin Fields is the answer. Not that they’re negative about it. Not that they think he’s a bad football player. Not that they don’t like him… By the way he played this year that they’re not sure he can be their franchise quarterback. I have it from a really good source that one of those people could be Cole Kmet, who felt there were times that Fields just wouldn’t or couldn’t give him the ball.”

if you only complete 10 to 12 passes per game, you’re ruining the careers of your tight ends and wide receivers. It’s unsustainable.

Bears released WR Thomas Ives today. This team might end up being the blackest in the league.

That would go perfect with their lesbian crt mayor they have that even most of her own people hate her. The Bears have not been
white friendly in so long it's hard to ever remember that. Aside from Urlacher, maybe the 80's Super Bowl Days. It's been dark for a
very long time. Whites not need apply.

it's pretty simple, they will lose and lose big for the foreseeable future, 5 wins would be a great year with that garbage roster and horrible GM. They will be a team that i will bet against every chance i get

Claypool had a really good rookie season but it's been straight downhill since. He's another one of those players more interested in getting stoned and posting on social media than improving as a receiver. He was also in Paris during the offseason doing some modeling. Pretty much yet another NFL diva receiver. Great move by the Steelers getting rid of him last season, bad move by the Bears giving up a second round pick for him.

PJ Walker, one of the worst QBs to get multiple starts in the NFL, cut after being signed in the off-season to be the backup. Tyson Bagent, the UDFA who had a fantastic preseason, has earned the #2. Nathan Peterson sticks around as the QB3.

Bagent actually looked good in the three preseason games. I watched all his snaps, his last game he should of had a TD pass but the perfectly thrown ball was dropped in the end zone by the TE. His mechanics are very good, he gets the ball out quickly, seems to process information well and made mostly good decisions with the ball. He is light on his feet and illustrates good mobility in and out of the pocket. The Bears DWFs seem to have taken a liking to him as well so Fields will need to live up to the hype.

Well Bagent had better be ready to play. Players like Fields tend to have a short shelf life. I only watched maybe a game or so worth of Bears play last year and was unimpressed with Fields. His arm isn't bad, he can throw an accurate ball, but he's a one-read and go QB. Of course with the import of the college spread to the NFL, teams can make it work. Look at Philly last year with Hurts. Fields is a very good runner which accounts for much of his success. He's better at taking advantage of broken plays than the Malik Willis' of the NFL. Of course no one wants to see injuries happen.......

Bears going with Caleb "I paint my fingernails" Williams and Tyson Bagent at QB. Just saw that the signed Austin Reed to the practice squad today. It was either him or Brett Rypien.

On paper the Bears actually make a good hire with Ben Johnson. It's too bad he decided to take the job. Hopefully both he and Williams fail!

Ben Johnson's contract with Chicago Bears expected to crush usual first-time coach salary

According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, the initial contract figures for Johnson are rumored to exceed $13 million per season.

Florio conditioned these figures as speculation, but with Johnson having his choice of no less than three teams to coach, there's no doubt his contract will be a record-setter.

The average first-year head coach earns roughly $8 million per season, pushing Johnson's expected yearly number into rarified air.

Jim Harbaugh, who was last offseason's top coaching free agent, earns $16 million per season from the Los Angeles Chargers. Unlike Johnson, Harbaugh had previous (and successful) NFL coaching experience.

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson talks with fans on the sidelines

To put into perspective just how crazy $13 million per season would be for a first-time head coach, it falls just $2 million per season behind Sean McVay, the wildly successful coach of the Los Angeles Rams, who has a Super Bowl victory on his resume.

We shouldn't wring our hands over how billionaires spend their money. I guess my pithy remark would be how the billionaire class doesn't seem to mind the 60% inflation rate post-covid.

Anyway, Johnson is going to need himself a quarterback. Some potential good fits: Aaron Rodgers, Derek Carr, Daniel Jones, Kyle McCord.

Sanborn isn’t a workout warrior, just a really good Football player and Linebacker.

Only thing I’d count on Johnson to whiten up is OL. They’ve landed Thuney and Jonah Jackson. Instant upgrades over sumos they replace.

Hall of Fame defensive tackle Steve McMichael died today from ALS at the age of 67. He was a key member of the famed 1985 Bears defense and was an Iron Man who played in 191 straight games and is second all-time in career sacks by a Bear. He and fellow defensive lineman Dan Hampton (who also made the HOF) were fun to watch in the day. RIP

Pretty cool that “Mongo” McMichael was inducted to The Hall before his early passing. He apparently wanted that more than anything before he went.

I never saw Mongo play but I have vivid memories of him from my childhood watching him wrestle. Yes, McMichael had a pretty good 2nd career as a pro wrestler, mostly in the now defunct WCW. He was a part of wrestling legend Ric Flair’s stable, a revival of the Four Horsemen. Here’s him against Reggie White and he also wrestled Kevin Greene.

What a character! RIP

He was probably of the last generation of plentiful White front 7 stars on defense. He also was probably in the last generation of NFL stars that wrestled full time after their careers ended due to the explosion of salaries in the league. He also opened my eyes on the spendthrift McCaskey/Halas clan on how the championship winning banquet was held at a Holiday Inn in the suburbs of Chicago.

Sad and very sudden news as a few hours before he officially died a wire story was published that he was in hospice care.

When the NFL Network broke the news of McMichael's death, they showed footage of him in the hospital (or a hospice) with loved ones showing him his Hall of Fame bust, and he had wasted away. He showed no facial reaction whatsoever to the bust. ALS is such a devastating disease. I could be wrong but I bet a strong and prideful man like Steve would not want his fans to see him in that condition as their last memory of him. I found it inappropriate to show it which is why I didn't even mention it above.

On a lighter note, Reggie White's reaction in that gif to being hit is hilarious.
