2025 Track Results

Will Floyd of Canada (he's also listed as Tyler Floyd), came 2nd in the 400m at the SEC Indoor Championships. (There were 4 white participants in the final!). His time was 45.24, one of the fastest of the year.
As a reminder, he won the 400m at Pan Am U20 Championships in 2023, and won the bronze at the World U20 Championships.
He looks ready to go sub-45 come the outdoor season.
Floyd was the 2nd fastest qualifier for the 400m finals at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Antonie Nortje and TJ Tomlyanovich also qualified for the 400m finals.
A good showing already to have 3 guys in the final.

and for something a little different - in the preliminaries of the Sydney track Classic, Harlow Pate (girl, 11 years) ran a PB of 12.96 into a slight wind beating every boy of the same age. I believe she is also a world record holder (from when she was 10 I think). I'll wait to see how she runs 200 tomorrow. Her 10 year old times for the 200 are low 26 and 400 sub 60. 25004-Harlow-Pate-scaled-e1690520511469.jpg

and still more (unexpected) news look at this race in Queensland from today.
He obviously wanted it low key so ran unheralded in the B race

the last event of the night and a repeat run for 3 of the relay boys - too bad about the +2.4 but 10.06 was a decent 2nd run of the night for Azzopardi. Sultan ran 10.08 but was not in the relay tonight but he beat a guy who was by 0.2 second. Maybe we can lower that 38.87 soon

Fantastic!!
Sub-38 is a great time.
And obviously they could go faster with better competition, and perhaps swapping out a man or two for other sprinters.
Congratulations!!

Floyd won the NCAA 400m by 1/100th of a second in 45.43.
It must have been a great race.

Also Sam Blaskowski won the NCAA Division III 60m title with a time of 6.62.
He also won the 200m in 21.26.
Alexander Rhodes of Puget Sound came third in the race, 21.46. Earlier in the day he won the 400m in a good time of 46.71.

Here's Floyd's winning race. The finals were run in 2 heats. His heat starts about 5 minutes into the clip.

All of the Australian Times from this weekend have been outstanding. This result makes me very happy. Was starting to wonder if
we would see him ever run again? Not only did he run but a fantastic result in his first outing with no competition. Australian Sprinting
has never looked so good on the mens side as recently. Excited to see what Rohan Browning can do going forward!

Marione Fourie ran a 12.77 100m hurdles—the fastest in the world this year.

some fuller youtube clips of some events from the Sydney track classic.
One thing I particularly like is that 1 guy (Calab Law, home straight) is 19 and one (Kennedy, lead-off) is 21, Good to have some younger guys to learn from the 25/26/27 year olds

includes Josh Azzopardi being interviewed by another young lady who is being blooded into commentary and interviewing - she knows her stuff.
She's Ella Nelson. It's great to get athletes into these positions because they know what it's all about - "been there, done that".
She ran 22.50/200 in 2016, a semi-finalist in the Brazil Olympics

Incredible videos. So fun to watch again & again. Go Australia.
I agree with you mate.
One of the things I note is that:

a) our teams really appreciate each other. They love to perform together against the world (yes, probably some insecurity of needing to prove ourselves, being so far from everyone else on the planet). That started a century and a half ago when we first beat Mother England in cricket.

b) the joy they have in their successes spreads to we who are watching (look at Calab Law's reaction, who wouldn't want to be a part of that?).
As a counter example, Americans in particular seem so used to success that they expect it as a right and are so disappointed when they fail (although that may change as many places in the world are playing catchup as their middle class grows, allowing time to indulge in sports). The Americans also have so many sprinters to choose from that you rarely see the same 4 Americans together more than once. Not the same team spirit perhaps.

c) the race caller is Bruce McAvaney. He's early 70s, my age, still thrilled by performances and the most knowledgable man who does lots of homework. It's really his vocation.
The things he mentions even as the guys are racing around the track come straight out of his huge memory bank. I'm pleased to say I share many of them - (we could talk athletics for ages over a coffee if he wasn't so busy and in a different state to me LOL)

Your thoughts anyone?

10.06/10.08 both great times and knocking on the door! Well done lads!
19 year old Seb Sultana who ran 2nd starts fast but lost a little in the latter part of his drive phase I think. With more strength and practice I reckon he may fix that and possibly get him a legal 10 low even now. Some great wheels on him.
Azzopardi probably lost a few 1/100ths just in his celebrating. He ran through the line upright.
Can't wait for the coming weeks as they really peak for end of April

Yep, he celebrated and it cost him about .02-.03 off his time. All said and done 10.06 is a world class time! He's young and most likely wont do that again lol

Anyone know what the mens 4 x 100 record is for an all white squad?

I thought the same thing about Azzopardi. Pretty stupid to celebrate like that. He wasn’t comfortably ahead of 2nd place and he also feasibly could have had a chance to break 10 seconds. Not sure what he was thinking.
