NFL News, Rumors and Musings

I didn't realize Kellen Moore's record at Boise State was 50-3. The Derek Carr thing is up in the air. Some feel he is out the door. Whether Taysom can regain his form after his injury is up in the air, too. There are gaps that need to be filled in on both offense and defense. Moore is in for a challenge. I think the Saints made the right choice, however..
His record at Boise State was bonkers. If I remember correctly, two of those losses were because the kicker missed a late field goal. I remember watching him at Boise State. Seeing him become a coach is weird. Similar to when I saw that Josh Heupel was a heavy set university football coach. I remembered Josh Heupel as a thin quarterback at Oklahoma.

How about this absurdity that claims there have only been 15 White cornerbacks in NFL history. I saw this a few months ago and was going to write something about it then. Now it's back in my feed again.

Think about it, even a moron should know that from roughly 1919 until sometime in the 1960s or early '70s, it was a rarity when a White wasn't playing cornerback! There have been hundreds and hundreds of White cornerbacks in the NFL, yet this idiocy continues to be published and apparently no one questions it. And notice the racist "explanation" that follows the idiotic statement:

How many white cornerbacks are in the NFL?

As of the 2024 NFL season, only three white NFL cornerbacks play in the league. This was a historic development, considering that over 20 years ago was the last time a white CB started in a game, and there have only been 15 white cornerbacks in NFL history.

The rarity of white players in this position is attributed to several scientific factors, such as black players having longer limbs and shorter torsos, making them faster and better cornerbacks.

I see pieces like that in on just about every subject nowadays. Almost always by a young person with a very shallow body of knowledge in their tool kit.

Just stunned fk stupid. And most don't know it.

All the writer would have to do was look up rosters of teams from 1920 onward. I don't know if the early years had the position officially listed in the early years of the league but for about 15 years the NFL had no Black players and cornerback was an official position by at least the early 40's.

Sad that somebody that poor in research skills could write anything beyond a high school newspaper article.

Agreed. Except I would say Jr. High School. Middle school I think they call it nowadays.

Looks like GOAT Justin Tucker may be the White version of Deshaun Watson. Either that or there's quite an organized campaign being waged to destroy his reputation and career:

The Baltimore Banner reports that seven additional massage therapists have come forward alleging misconduct by Ravens K Justin Tucker. Tucker has now been accused of misconduct by 16 different therapists across eight different spas. Like the others, these new accusations also include allegations of Tucker exposing himself to therapists, rubbing himself on them, and at times, touching their thighs. All 16 of Tucker’s accusers are women with similar stories. Whether they say it or not, it’s growing increasingly difficult for the Ravens to justify keeping Tucker, 35, around as allegations continue to mount.

It seems like the Jags want to keep Trevor Lawerence. They signed a backup QB John Wolford and WR Louis Zammit. Lawrence doesn't want to go to the Steelers.

I'm glad, the Steelers would have been about the worst team for Lawrence to go to. Mike Tomlin is a quarterback killer. He was fortunate Big Ben Roethlisberger was already there and established when he became head coach as Big Ben carried the team for the first dozen years of Tomlin's endless reign.

It looks like Tomlin is going to coach the Steelers as long as George Halas coached the Bears.

I believe this guy was called "Sparkles the Punter" by Vox Day a longtime Vikes fan.

It would be cool to see Rodgers end his career with the Steelers as it would give them a White QB who is an all-time great, but I would certainly have doubts as to how it would work out under QB killer, coaching treeless Mike Tomlin:

Aaron Rodgers said he’s hoping to join a “good team” that wants him if he continues playing in 2025. On the surface, it seems simple enough, but how many legitimate contenders will be interested in Rodgers as a full-time starter? There are only a handful of teams that look like contenders that may be interested in Rodgers’ services next season, which is why teams like the Steelers and Rams have been floated as potential destinations. Of course, the Rams would have to move on from Matthew Stafford before they would consider bringing somebody like Rodgers aboard. With a long offseason ahead, teams will have plenty of time to decide if Rodgers is a fit as a short-term fix or if they’d prefer to stay away from a player whose performance may not be worth the headache that has followed him as of late.

The Rams may be without both Cooper Kupp and Matt Stafford next season:

NFL Insider Tom Pelissero said the Rams have given Matthew Stafford’s agent permission to speak to other teams. Speaking on the Rich Eisen Show Friday, Pelissero said that the priority is still for the Rams to keep Stafford in Los Angeles. However, that won’t happen without a new contract for the 37-year-old quarterback. By letting Stafford’s representation speak to other teams the Rams are essentially letting his market set itself. Negotiations between Stafford and the Rams were drawn out last offseason and ended with the gunslinger giving up guaranteed money in 2025, which would make it easier for the Rams to trade him this offseason. While several teams including the New York Giants have been linked to Stafford this offseason and trade speculation will only increase until a new contract is finalized, the most likely scenario remains another run with Sean McVay and the Rams.

Maybe Tucker can get a fully guaranteed $200M plus contract after these allegations? And Tucker is actually good in the field too (unlike Watson).

I'm still hoping the Vikings let Sam Darnold sign elsewhere as a starter and then go with J. J. McCarthy, though the Giants with their annual horrendous offensive line and weak receivers other than Nabors may be about the worst possible landing spot. NY DWFs would undoubtedly very quickly turn on Sam after a pick or two.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports that the Giants’ top veteran quarterback options include Sam Darnold, Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers. Raanan notes that the Giants “had interest in Darnold last offseason” but that he was “too expensive for what they were looking for.” Though the Giants likely prefer Darnold to Wilson and Rodgers, Darnold will command a far higher salary this season, having produced a career-best 100.8 NFL passer rating with the Vikings in 2024.

Jim Harbaugh remains a big booster of McCarthy:

According to reports, Deebo Samuel is almost certain to be traded during the offseason. And now Aiyuk, coming off tears of his MCL and ACL, may join him. Ricky Pearsall is all but certain to start in '25:

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports teams have expressed interest in trading for Brandon Aiyuk. This was already shaping up to be an eventful offseason in San Francisco with an extension looming for Brock Purdy and GM John Lynch acknowledging that Deebo Samuel will be on the move. Now Aiyuk, who signed a $120 million extension last offseason, could also be out the door. It’s already been reported that the 26-year-old wide receiver’s availability is uncertain for the start of the season after tearing his MCL and ACL last October.

If they lose both Samuel and Aiyuk, they will be significantly weakened offensively.
I think they should try to keep Samuel, but it sounds like that won't happen.
Maybe they can pick-up Cooper Kupp!

2 minutes later, and I just read that Deebo was traded to Washington for a 5th round pick.

Washington traded for Samuel, only cost them a fifth round draft pick. Looking at Samuel's NFL career, he had one big year with 1,405 receiving yards in 2021, but since then he's only had 632, 892 and 670 receiving yards while his rushing totals have been 232, 225 and 136 yards, so looks like he made his reputation off that one big season and has been declining since.

But it doesn't look good for Luke McCaffrey's racial apprenticeship ending any time soon.

Daniel Jones could potentially thrive on the Colts as they have a very solid offensive line and a strong running game. Could also be really good for Alec Pierce as well:

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Daniel Jones and Jacoby Brissett are among several QBs on the Colts’ offseason radar. The Colts are looking for competition to bring in to compete with Anthony Richardson this offseason. In addition to Jones and Brissett, Fowler says Trey Lance and Justin Fields could also be in play. From a play-style perspective, both Lance and Fields could prove to be fits, although it’s hard to imagine any team pursuing Lance as a QB2 given his underwhelming stint with the Cowboys and the brief time he saw the field last season. Last year’s backup turned starter, Joe Flacco, has already expressed interest in playing next season, but whether or not he is back with the Colts is to be determined. A return to the Colts could be in the cards for Flacco, although there’s been little talk of a reunion at this time.

49ers thought about this so they picked Pearsall. It's Pearsall who get shot that cost niners to spent on Aiyuk reluctantly, and money wasted lol.
