The purpose of this thread is to discuss the 2016 NFL draft including discussions of white prospects and how the draft might unfold.

Defensive end Joey Bosa of Ohio State is considered one of the top prospects for the 2016 draft.
 
Well looks like 2016 will be much better for us. Charlie Campbell the more impartial of the two analysts on walterfootball has five going in the first round. Connor Cook first, Joey Bosa second and Christian Hackenburg third. He also has Scooby Wright at 10 and Tackle out of Michigan State Conkin going to the Seattle Seahawks. Walt has Bosa, Hackenburg and Cook going in the top 10 with Spencer Drango tackle from Baylor and Wright also in the first round. So fingers crossed!
 
Seven of the top nine offensive tackles in the cbs rankings are white too for 2016 so hopefully our guys will come battling back and be a force again in next years draft, hopefully the sumos will take a back step next year.
 
They even have Nelson Spruce as their 3rd ranked receiver coming out of seniors. His amazing production can't be ignored by the draft niks!

Right now it looks promising but the college season has not started and the media has not begun to hype up no name affletes. Also the underclassmen who declare will take away draft positions from the more deserving white players who are better.

With that said the top offensive line prospects are all mostly white at this point. Zettel should also be a 1st round draft pick/the Aussie DT from Ga Tech should go in the top 3 rounds as well.

The skill position players that have the best chance of being drafted are Nelson Spruce and Cajuste from stanford. Both of them will need to run in the 4.4 range for any consideration as viable WRS at the next level. I don't see much in terms of running back prospects.

The qb position continues to be an issue for the NFL as college teams now put their "Best athlete" at the position - the guy who can run around and chuck balls up, play in an easy offensive scheme that utilizes a horizontal passing game or will keep the ball and run yet does not possess the arm strength, accuracy, ability to read defenses or have a base skill set of fundamentals to build upon. This is why Cook, Hackenberg and Goff will be highly sought after. They project to the NFL while guys like Prescott and Boykin will be late rounders.

You have both been great assets on the draft thread. I cannot recall if either of you have participated in the college football write ups we do every year in the college football thread. Typically we get the process started in early June, I hope you guys can both do some write ups if either of you are interested. Keep an eye out for the sign up thread!

Great news! Every little bit helps, even just a team or two. I enjoy doing the write ups because many of our members help out in getting the project done.

As a draft follower it also gives us a better idea of who to follow.

FWIW, the predictions for the 2015 draft were very bad this far out, IIRC. So, having all of these one year out predictions showing better numbers is in fact a good sign.

I read a mock draft that had the Redskins picking cal qb Jared Goff in the first. This is only 3 years after people were saying Gremlin was the best qb prospect ever, he was better than luck, he was going to be everything Vick was supposed to be and that the NFL offenses were becoming more evolved making his running ability an asset.
 
Just want everyone's opinion - do you think its still early to be doing a 2016 prospect watch list?

It's never too early to have a thread that piques interest and drives traffic. Of course, after the sour taste of the last draft I don't have any interest in looking forward to the next slap-down, but it's nice to build some awareness so that at least we know who to pay attention to next season.

Leonardfan of course not. That is what the site is for. I have not done a full investigation yet of 2016 but a few things come to mind. And there could be a few juniors declaring along with Bosa. How could it be as bad as last draft and we have to try and find something optimistic to look forward to in order to wash the filthy 2015 draft right out of our mouths.
 
I'll try to get a rudimentary list of players to watch together tonight or this weekend. A lot of the MSM sites are putting together lists that I will work off of. I do remember last year when the 2015 draft thread began it did feel like it was going to be a terrible draft which turned out to be correct. I do think the 2016 draft should be a little better.

Last year in the college football players thread Celticdb and I made some top 10 lists of position players to keep any eye out for, this will also help with that. Celtic, if you read this let me know if you want to do that again.

I forgot all about him. I hope he bounces back strong from injury. The thing about these white BYU players that works against many of them is that they are overaged as prospects. Looking forward to watching him this season, he was getting early Heisman buzz last year before injury and is the most athletic qb in college football for sure.
