Your Heritage?

Hockaday, I ordered the DNA kit and can't wait to get the results back.

Right on, Colonel Reb. Are you going to do the Y or the mitochondrial?

I don't know yet. I know less about my genetic heritage on my father's side than my mother's. Do you suggest one over the other?

If your test comes back over 25% negro you can't post here anymore! (kidding) But we will bust you down to Sgt. Reb.

Ha ha., but look at the bright side. Ifhe tests over 25% Negro, Riggins will start a Sgt. Reb tribute thread.

jaxvid, man you are always trying to figure out a way to demote me!

Nah, I know it won't come up with any darker blood than about 4% combined Cherokee and Choctaw.

Good one Bart! I look forward to being eulogized by ToughJ. It would be kind of like the Andy Griffith Show episode where Andy and Barney acted like Otis was dead.

I can just hear Riggins now, the good ole Colonel thought he was white, but he ended up being a twisted Clayton Bixby story, tu che.Edited by: Colonel_Reb

I hear the Col. does have a "room brightening smile" and lots of charisma.

And no felony convictions (yet)

All right, Colonel Reb, you can come out now. All these jokers should be safely asleep.

If you want to know about your mother's line, do a mitochondrial DNA test. mtDNA is passed from mother to male and female offspring, but only the female passes it on to her offspring. So it will tell you about your direct female deep ancestry from your mother.

If you want to know about father's line, do a Y DNA test. The Y is passed only from father to son, so it will tell you about your male line deep ancestry, basically which of the genetic haplogroups you belong to.

I myself have had mtDNA done, now I'm going to do the Y test.

I think I'm going to do the Y test first. I'll do the mtDNA afterwards.

Yep, all those things describe me to a T!

I wish. I was the fastest lineman on my high school team though. 5-6 155 is the perfect size for a LG/DT, right?

I am aware of Scottish, English and Flemish ancestry.

Has anyone used the Mormons' genealogical records to trace their family history? They have a huge library of records. I was fortunate enough to trace some ancestry going back to around 1600 to a particular county in England. Pretty cool for a free resource.

As a matter of fact I have. My Dad was LDS (Jack Mormon variety) and his family tree is in the LDS Family Library. I've spent hours exploring different branches.
It's a good resource.

I'm American about 8 generations back on both sides. My inital ancestry is English & Welsh on my Dad's side and French Huegenot & Scottish on my Mom's side.

My dads side is 100% Italian and my moms side is 50% Polish and 50% Scotch with my grandmother being Polish and my grandfather being Scotch.

My grandmother on my dads side was pregnant with my dad when they left Italy to come to the U.S. in 1929. But he was born here.

Mathmatically, I am a European mutt, but because of my Italian last name I am looked at by everyone as an Italian-American.

As I said earlier in this thread, I am of Albanian ancestry, and i look like a typical mediteranian/southern European white person. I have a little bit of gypsy and Turkish blood thrown in there as well, but I consider myself to be Albo-American. I think Southern European people are the most beautiful in the world. No offense to northern Euros, but thats just my preference

Swedish women are the best looking in my view. My friend once went to Stockholm and said he'd never seen so many hot women in his life. I must go at some point in the future!

We tend to assume someone's ancestrybased ontheir last name even though most white Americans are thoroughly "mixed"and many actually have little ancestry associated with their surname. This is particularly true in the case of women, whose married nameindicates nothing about ancestry. An example that comes to mind -- when Pat Buchanan was running for president in 1992 and '96, the media often said he evoked images of the "tough Irish cop." Buchanan is German in addition to being Irish, but everyone thinks of him solely as Irish because of his name. Edited by: Don Wassall

German on both sides but by the look of me I definitely have some Mediterranean in there...Hence the higher levels of ethnocentrism...

And it feels good

My mon's side is polish. My dad says he is polish. There is some debate in our family on this. Some of his cousins claim to be german. My dad's family came from one of those areas that changed ownership depending of who won the last war. There is also the town in the rhineland that has the family name. I do not know who is right about this.

I want to voice an objection to this question about heritage. I consider myself an American. I object to the tribalism that this question brings up. This only devides us. We must be united.

The only time I ever saw white people united was when MLK left Chicago. Unfortunently, they used this power to keep a wigger named Richard Joseph Daley in office.
