I was just inerested to know how many people here know what their heritage is? I've just found out today that I have German blood in me aswell as native English, Irish and Scandinavian (from my viking roots in North East England). Being fully northern European makes me extremley proud

Ellis Island on my Mom's side, Old American all the way back to the 1600's on my Dad's side. German, English, Scots-Irish, Danish. Basically Northern Europe and the British Isles.

As a matter of fact, I just got some DNA results back, my mitochondrial, which would be my mother's maternal line. Of the dozen or so major haplogroups in Europe, I fall into the J haplogroup, which is associated with the Neolithic expansion into Europe around 10,000 years ago that brought farming and herding into Europe from the Near East.

The rest of the European haplogroups were just foragers till we showed up.

So there.

Fascinating stuff! It's nice to see we've got a nice blend here. Does no one here have any Welsh or Dutch in them? Tom Iron, I like your patriotism, very nice.

I could add Anglo-African to my heritage especially as my great grandparents were some of the first Europeans to settle into Rhodesia (Zimabawe), but Anglo-African still makes you sound black because the world will never accept the White African.

My mother claims that I have some Native blood in me as well, not much though, maybe like 1/16 or something like that. Not that it matters, but I'd prefer that I didn't.

I don't know how to respond to that comment other than to say I am proud of every drop of blood in my heritage. But you have a right to place whatever value you want too in a pure white heritage, but hardly anybody's pure anymore and it's near impossible to prove anyways.

Yeah, this Indian thing, we've got the same rumor on my Dad's side of the family. I've looked into it, and it seems it would come through my paternal grandmother. I need to find a cousin with her mitochondria to do a deep ancestry mtDNA test.

This whole DNA thing is really fascinating to me. National Geographic is working on a project right now and for only $107 will do either a mt of Y chromosone test. I've already had the mt, now I'm going to have a Y test done. Here's a link for anyone who's interested.

Didn't realize how common it is to find Indian in someone's lineage.
I claim a small amount of Blackfoot myself.
As well a healthy mix of Flemish, Welsh, German, and Czech.

I'd have to go with Tom Iron on this one.

My father's family has been in this country for well more than two centuries. Good West Texas ranching heritage there

My mother's family is solid Scotch-Irish, the meanest, toughest, most independent people on earth. Good ole Southern roots there.

Old Confederacy merged with Texas Cowboys, that's a damn good combination.
