I hate how many white players keep looking back when an afflete is chasing them. The Notre Dame TE did the same thing on his 96 yard touchdown against Michigan. Don't worry, they're not gonna catch you, keep your eye on the endzone.

Oh, that's one of the many highlights we don't see on Sports center. I noticed the announcer said Collie was trying to get away from the defenders. It looked more like the negro defenders were trying to catch Austin.

With Collie catching 12 balls for 173 yards and two touchdowns, he is quickly becoming one of the premier wideouts in the nfl. I would love to see him finish in the top 5 in the NFL in receiving in only his second season. He is fun to watch!

Well WL if he's gonna finish in the top 5 he's certainly got a nice head start! Seeing him unleashed shows he's got real potential, and this is just the beginning. Guys like Welker and Collie are waking people up and giving chances to others like Blair White and Max Komar. I think at the wide receiver position that if things keep going right we are nearing a critical mass in the next 3 or 4 years just like what happened with the TE position a few years ago!

A nice start would be an understatement. He is number one in the NFL as of today in receiving yards! I just hope Peyton keeps going his way as Wayne and Garcon complain that they are not getting enough receptions! Way to go Collie!

I would hope Collie would be the starter opposite Reggie Wayne with Blair White in the slot. That's asking a lot though and I expect Garcon to keep his starting job.

Collie's the first BYU receiver to make it big in the NFL. Amazing -- BYU produces NFL talent at every other position except running back. Wonder why those two positions have been so weak -- especially when considering that BYU produced a Doak Walker winner in Luke Staley.

I've watched BYU for a long time and they've always had good, mostly White receivers. Collie was simply much more fortunate than the others by being drafted by the Colts and getting to play with Peyton Manning.

Lavell Edwards repeats the lies and distortions in a non-racially explicit way about speed, when many (black) NFL receivers have average or below average speed, and many White college receivers have excellent speed and elusiveness. The NFL actually has few "burners" at wide receiver:

"Just lack of great speed," says former BYU head coach LaVell Edwards, explaining BYU's dearth of NFL receivers. "That's who the NFL chooses. When it comes to running routes and catching the ball, our guys have been as good as any. We've just never had any burners."

"It is odd that BYU has produced a fair number of pro quarterbacks, but very few wide receivers," says Holmoe, a BYU grad and former college head coach who played safety for the great San Francisco 49er teams of the '80s and now is BYU's athletic director. "My personal opinion is that the NFL is fixated with (the) measurable, (especially for) wide receivers. First, you must be able to run FAST. From there, routes, hands, running after the catch, size, height, production, strength, blocking all seem to follow somewhere depending on the team. BYU has had few 'NFL fast' receivers."

So basically they're summing up BYU's lack of NFL WRs on the obligatory 40 yd dash time excuse. What a poor excuse it is because as we all know on here that the average 40 time at the combine of a WR is in the mid 4.5s; hardly a "speed burner" time. However, the NFL will chose a black guy with sub 4.4 speed any day over a white guy running in the 4.5s so affirmative action is a leading cause in the lack of BYU (white) WRs.

How come people forget that the main thing with WRs should be getting separation. You can be an olympic track star but if you cannot get separation from your defender then you're useless as a WR.

I read that article this morning and was a little disappointed. Tyler Anderson, Rod Wilkerson and Mckay Jacobson are all faster than Austin Collie. And Collie has no trouble beating guys deep. There has been plenty of speed at BYU.

this just more typically lazy (or purposefully non-informative?) sports "journalism." anyone who has the inclination could research the subject and come to realize that very, very few NFL wide receivers are "burners." even more rarelyare the examples of a truly fast wideout who can actually catch the ball. most successful wide receivers are quicker than they are fast (in the NFL, and any other level for that matter), and by definition most have average speed (would it kill these moronicso-called "reporters" to knowthe meaning of the word average?).

furthermore, there have beenplenty of White wide receivers at BYU who possess NFL-caliber speed/quickness/size/hands/toughness, but they didn't possess NFL-caliber skin pigmentation (hence the story-mentioned drafting of non-White BYU wideout Todd Watkins).

this is the truly exceptional part of Collie's story: he got a legitimate shot.

one side note, BYU76 mentioned Rod Wilkerson ... that cat had blazing speed, but he was nicknamed 50-50 for a reason.with Wilkerson, catching the ballwas always an adventure.

Apparently Collie is fast enough be cause he burned afflete Perrish Cox multiple times the last game. The afflete was probably just "out of place" or something. It couldn't have been Collie's athleticism that allowed him to have his monster game could it? It must have been Collie's smarts that allowed him to have a great game. You know like actually running his routes and concentrating enough to catch the ball, two things black receivers don't do very well.

from rotoworld:

Phillip B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star suggests that Austin Collie will remain the Colts' starting flanker even with Pierre Garcon returning.

Garcon has missed two straight games with a bum hamstring, but is on track to play against the Chiefs. He was all but a non-factor prior to the injury, dropping multiple passes in the opener. Collie, meanwhile, has been the most productive receiver in all of football. Collie will still play in the slot in three-wideout sets, but he'll be a true every-down receiver if he's passed Garcon on the depth chart. Garcon won't be a fantasy option in Week 5.

If Manning would throw to Collie a little more, he could lead the NFL in receiving yards and make the Pro Bowl. I would love to see that. The kid can flat out play. His speed, cuts, vision and hands are off the charts!

i expect to see Collie lined up wide in the two-receiver sets then see him move to the slot when the Colts go to three-wide. i wouldn't be surprised to see Blair White continue to be the outside receiver in the three-wide formations, because not only has he shown the ability to be where he's supposed to be when he's supposed to be there and make the catch (two things Garcon is not known for) but he has also shown a willingness to block (and block well). that is yet anothertrait that i didn't see from Garcon.

i can hope that Garcon becomes trade bait when/if Gonzalez gets healthy ...

Yesterday it was Dallas Clark possibly being out for the season, now this:
Coach Jim Caldwell confirmed Thursday that Austin Collie is being evaluated for an undisclosed injury this week. Rotoworld's Evan Silva broke the news on Twitter Wednesday that Collie may be out 2-6 weeks with the injury, but he couldn't get confirmation. Caldwell has not set a timetable for Collie, and he expects to address the situation publicly "within the next 24 hours or so." Anthony Gonzalez (ankle), aiming for a Week 8 return, is the prime candidate to take over as the No. 3 receiver if Collie misses game action.

Guys, this isn't so bad. The Colts have a bye this week anyway, and the report said he would be back in "a few weeks." I'm guessing he'll come back eirlier than expected, a la Wes Welker, and be right back at it.

In a fair world, Blair White would see a ton more touches in Austin's absence. In reality, it probably means two receiver sets more targets and drops for Pierre Garcon.

The problem is that Gonzalez can't get on the field, and now Collie is hurt, along with Clark being lost for the season it seems. That's 3 talented white players at skill positions that will probably miss time.

Sure, this opens things up for Blair White, but honestly, Collie was having a great season and was easily going to reach 1,000+ yards. Hopefully he bounces back quickly enough to still accomplish that.

Collie was number 1 fantasy receiver as well, which definitely caught attention of your average dwfs.

If Jacob Tamme can step in and do some of the things Dallas Clark does, that will open some more eyes, the way Julian Edelman did when he did so well in the "Wes Welker role" as a rookie last year.

Hopefully Blair White, who alsoopened some eyes earlier this season, will be allowed to pick up some of the slack as well, especially since Gonzalez can't seem to stay healthy. With Garcon so prone to drops and mistakes and the Colts in a fight just to make the playoffs, the teamneeds toplug in and use the best options in the passing game.

This is not good news. We need all our standout receivers playing for the Colts and putting up big numbers. If Collie can get back soon, I'm still hopeful of a 1000 yard season from him.

This will be a very fast return if Collie plays Sunday. And if he does a thousand yard season should be almost a given.

*** WR Austin Collie (IND) practiced fully on Thursday. Philip B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star writes that he'll "be shocked if Collie is not out there Sunday at Philadelphia, making catches as he always does, with some sort of bandage on that thumb."

Collie was asked if we should be optimistic about him playing this week. He said, "You can be optimistic. I joke around a little bit by saying it's on an hour-to-hour basis. It depends on how I feel, but the thumb is definitely making very good progress."
