Once again, probably the most pro-white team has a black coach. I bet if a white coach did this, he'd get all kinds of flak from fans and likely even some journalists.

The funny thing is that Indinapolis is one of the few major cities in the US with a very large portion of whites. Almost two thirds of the city is white. Green Bay is 85 % white.

I'm hoping for a Colts-Packers Superbowl! The Colts look like a team to cheer for. Lets hope that Caldwell is "reasonably" fair (like Dungy tried as much as he could to be) and then becomes just as good a coach.

Other teams we need in the playoffs are the Texans and Patriots!

I don't understand how somehow can come up with this deduction that the Colts receiving corps will be inherently slow if they have Gonzalez and Collie on the field... oh wait, the source is ESPN. Just ridiculous. Per nfldraftscout.com, Collie's 40 time is 4.56 (with a low time of 4.49). That is good speed.

"if Austin Collie is starting in the slot and Gonzalez on the outside along with Wayne, I can't help but think we have one of the slowest WR corps in the league. "

http://espn.go.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/2671/mailbag-on-colts-speed-at-receiver

I can't wait for Manning to exploit defenses across the league this season with his "slow receiving corps."

4.56 speed is solid speed for a Flanker or Slot WR which is where I project Collie. Collie's elite skills are mostly due to his brilliant route running, and amazing short area quickness. Gonzo has some wheels- he runs a 4.44 I believe. That's legit speed even for a starting Split-End. Certainly faster than your typical NFL starting WR. Most importantly, these guys actually catch the ball consistently!

Collie is not getting many passes thrown his way by Manning. I hope he gets more looks from Peyton as the season goes on.

The Colts are an exciting team to watch. You have possibly the best quarterback ever, a very good tight end in Dallas Clark, and two great white receivers in Gonzalez and Collie. If only the defense got whiter.

It was nice to see Peyton and Collie talking with a commentator at the end of last nights game. Essentially, Manning gave major credit to Collie's great moves during one of his touchdowns. I think this is going to be a very good relationship, perhaps eventually rivaling Brady to Welker!

I think so too. Can you imagine the horror if Collie ended up on a team like Oakland. He would waste several years of his career.

Do you think Austin will be in the running for the ROTW again this week? I'm going to recheck the site tomorrow because it wasn't updated earlier today.

backrow, thanks for pointing out the obvious to me.

Since I don't get ESPN, I tend to forget about the Monday night games. Isn't it strange that you can now watch 15 college games online on ESPN 360, but not MNF?

Collie's Turn to Shine

By Matt Dollinger - Colts.com
Monday, October 12 2009

Rookie Wide Receiver Scores Two Touchdowns in Division Win
It was Austin Collie's turn to shine Sunday night, and the rookie wide receiver took advantage of every opportunity his veteran quarterback presented him.

The Colts' fourth-round pick out of Brigham Young finished with eight receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns in the Colts' 31-9 victory over the Tennessee Titans.

With Tennessee's defense paying respect to wide receiver Reggie Wayne on the outside, quarterback Peyton Manning exploited the middle of the field, throwing pass after pass in the slot to Collie and tight end Dallas Clark, who finished with nine catches for 77 yards.

For the second week in a row, Collie caught a lengthy touchdown pass from Manning late in the second quarter to extend a lead, with last week's catch against Seattle being the first of his young career.

This week, it was a 39-yard pass from Manning with 17 seconds left in the half. The Colts quarterback hit Collie over the middle of the field, and the rookie picked up numerous yards after the catch, breaking through several Tennessee defenders to score the first of his two touchdowns.

"The one before the half was just a huge play,"Â￾ Manning said. "The catch was great, but the effort to get into the end zone was something else."Â￾

Manning said the Titans did not offer many one-on-one matchups, playing primarily a zone defense, which forced Indianapolis' offense to be patient. Instead of throwing the ball downfield, the Colts picked up first down after first down, 23 in all. Manning's most frequent target Sunday night was running back Joseph Addai, who caught 10 short passes for 53 yards.

But Manning picked his spot perfectly as the clock in the second quarter winded down. After starting from their own seven yard-line with 57 seconds left, the Colts quickly moved downfield before Manning saw Collie in a mismatch in the slot on first down.

"They had a linebacker on him, and it is tough for a linebacker to cover Collie over the middle,"Â￾ he said.

Manning's touchdown to Collie put the Colts up 12 at the half, 21-9, but the rookie's second touchdown of the night would soon extend that lead.

Collie scored again on the team's first drive of the second half, reeling in a six-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 28-9.

His two touchdown catches helped the Colts defeat their AFC South rival, but Collie said he is happy just to be a part of a 5-0 team.

"It has been fun from day one,"Â￾ he said. "It's been a blast. Take away the touchdowns and the big plays, just being out there and being able to contribute somehow, someway, is an honor."Â￾

Collie's extra work during the week has helped him make an impact on game days, Manning said. The quarterback said the rookie occasionally will make a mistake, but has been putting in extra work and has impressed him with "how seriously he's taking to the cerebral part of the game."Â￾

Earlier this week, Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell said Collie and other young offensive players' success would largely depend on how much they are willing to dedicate themselves to the mental aspect of the game.

"I think if you're really going to progress quickly in this offense, you have to spend time studying and really looking at the details of our system,"Â￾ he said.

After Sunday's game, Collie was quick to deflect the attention away from him and instead focus on his teammates, who have helped him throughout the preseason and the first five weeks.

"It just helps with the leadership we have,"Â￾ he said.

Collie listed Manning, his fellow receivers and Assistant Head Coach/Wide Receivers Clyde Christensen as some of the people who have remained patient and helped him improve.

The rookie also said he needs to continue to stay patient and focus on improving each and every week.

While it was the young player's turn to shine Sunday night, his quarterback joked he wants to make sure the rookie stays humble.

That should not be too much of a problem for the player just happy to be a part of a winning team.

"It's honestly just an exciting time,"Â￾ Collie said.

HORSE HIGHLIGHTS
"¢ The Colts defense held the Titans to only 90 yards rushing Sunday night, the third consecutive game they have held their opponent under 100 yards on the ground. Over that span, the Colts have allowed just 54.3 rushing yards per game. On Sunday, Tennessee running back Chris Johnson, the NFL's leading rusher coming into the game, ran for only 34 yards on nine carries.

"¢ Defensive end Dwight Freeney sacked Titans quarterback Kerry Collins in the third quarter, extending his streak of consecutive games with a sack to six, a career-best.

"¢ Indianapolis heads into the bye week on a 14-game winning streak, and it could not come at a better time, according to Manning. "We haven't been playing at full strength, so any time you have a bye week and we can get some guys back in the next two weeks is a big plus,"Â￾ he said. "We are going to need everybody as we go into this second stretch of the season."Â￾

"¢ Manning passed for 309 yards Sunday night, giving him five consecutive games of 300 passing yards or more. Manning became only the third quarterback in NFL history to open a season with five or more consecutive games with over 300 yards passing. Steve Young (1998) and Kurt Warner (2000) each passed for 300-plus yards six times in a row.

"¢ Manning moved to third place in career passing touchdowns on Sunday night with 345. He entered the game tied with Fran Tarkenton. Manning also moved into fifth place past Tarkenton (47,003) in career passing yards with 47,273.

"¢ Rookie punter Pat McAfee averaged 49.3 yards per punt on his four punts, Sunday night, including two punts that landed inside the Tennessee 20 yard-line. McAfee's first three punts were for 59, 56 and 55 yards, respectively.

Why was Percy Harvin named the NFL rookie of the year when he wasn't even arguably the best rookie WR this year? If you pull up the rookie receiving stat page on NFL.com for the regular season, Collie and Harvin are listed on top both with almost identical stats. Both had 60 receptions, and while Harvin boasts a slightly better YPC (13.2 vs 11.3), Collie had 1 more touchdown and no fumbles (Harvin had 1). The stats do show Harvin having more down field production than Collie, but that's because Collie does not get those routes (even though he can execute them just as well given the chance). To say Collie was any less important to Manning than Harvin was to Favre is completely false. Harvin had a great year, but so did Collie. What gives?

Harvin also had 1156 yards in the kick return game. He ended up 7th in the league in all purpose yards, which, along with his skin color, is likely what gave him the edge over Collie.

BTW, Danny Amendola ended up 6th in all purpose yardage in '09.

Also I might add that Harvin started 8 games and Collie only 5.

What gives is that Austin is a White WR and Harvin is black. When the stats are as close as that, you can almost always count on the black getting it over the White. I mean, look at what happened with Toby Gerhart and the Heisman this year. The stats weren't even close and he still came in second. There is no reason to think that any of the voters for these awards are going to treat White players fairly. With the media driven Caste System in place for well over 25 years, it should be no surprise.

I don't put too much stock into the rookie of the year crap as well as who goes to the faux pro bowl. What I do care about is Collie performance in the SB and can't wait for him to excell.

A blurb from Rotoworld. Gonzalez is described as "bigger" than Collie even though they are the same size. There's still a long way to go, would be nice if Garcon is the one who loses playing time though it's unlikely.
The Indy Football Report's John Oehser believes Austin Collie fans are going to be surprised next season, with Anthony Gonzalez potentially stealing playing time. Explained Oehser: "If it's he and Gonzalez battling for playing time â€"- and it won't necessarily be that clear-cut -- Gonzalez does everything Collie does, but bigger and faster." We're still not sure Gonzalez's knee will be where it was pre-injury. If it is, Collie will have his hands full keeping his snaps from last season.

A few media types believe Reggie Wayne began to decline in the second half of last season. The reality is that for every Donald Driver and Derrick Mason, there are many more black receivers that rapidly decline after hitting their 30s (black football players in general decline earlier than do White ones). Wayne will be 32 in November. Looks likeCollie may stun the DWFs and the Caste media and play outside more this season and in seasons to come. He's likely faster than Wayne right now anyway.
Austin Collie has improved from last season. The Colts believe second-year players make a huge jump from their rookie seasons, and early indications are Collie could be a major example of that this season. He was a factor as a rookie last season, and developed into a solid option as a receiver in the slot. What shouldn't be surprising considering his reputation for working extra and watching film last season is he spent the off-season further developing and now is playing outside in some situations in addition to playing the slot. Manning mentioned this multiple times this past week, and Manning also earlier this training camp discussed how Collie and fourth-year veteran Anthony Gonzalez visited him in Tennessee in July for three days to work on routes. That's the sort of dedication that allows players to make huge jumps, and it's reached the point where it's hard to imagine Collie not being an impact player this season. http://www.examiner.com/indianapolis-colts-in-indianapolis/magnificent-seven-ii-on-wr-austin-collie-wr-reggie-wayne-and-dt-fili-moala-p2-1

Other than the possibility you just mentioned Don, of those two white WRs being out there sometimes in 3 WR sets, It's possible that the Colts could become the first NFL team since (the Broncos in the late 90s?) to carry 4 white WRs on their roster. Gigurre could make the roster based on his return and explosiveness potential- and Blair White did well at the combine and has notoriety from his career at MSU. After Wayne and Garcon, there are certainly no black WR locks to make the team.

Collie and Gonzalez are locks to make the team. I was thinking they would keep Giguere for his return abilities as well. It looks like White Or Giguere are on the bubble at this point.

I think they will give WR Tahj Smith evry opportunity to win a spot on the roster....after all...isn't it unacceptable for the PTB to only have 2 black WR's on an NFL Roster these days??
