Wladimir Klitschko vs Francesco Pianeta

Pianeta holding his own in rounds 2 and 3, returning shots of his own. Klitschko landing some nice rights in r2 which I thought won him the round. R3, probably I would have given to Pianeta.

This Italian guy is fighting with a lot of heart and he came here to win!

That being said, Klitschko is closing in with that right and thats dangerous for Francesco.

It's over. TKO in the 6th. The Italian showed heart and had a bit of success early on but once Wladimir found his range it was easy pickings.

Good stoppage by the referee. No need to let this beating continue.

Credit to Francesco Pianeta, this guy fought with a lot of heart, and even had some success in the opening few rounds with bodyshots. Great effort from him and he showed a lot of heart in getting up from the knockdowns and mounting attacks. It shows he was here to win, not to just show up.

Wladimir was clinical as always. From the 4th round on, he found that right hand and the pace of the fight caught up with the Italian. Great KO punch to end the fight as well. Superb power, speed, and fighting tactics. Pianeta upped the tempo in R3, but by R4 you could see Wlad had adjusted and taken over, while Pianeta was unable to improve from thereon.

P4P # 1 - Wladimir

Tremendous win from Wlad, and great effort from the Italian! Francesco fought with a lot of heart and can be proud of his effort!

Great fight!

Looking forward to a Wlad signature win against Potvinkin now. Damn his girlfriend Hayden looks especially fine tonight. Man, Wlad's a lucky man.

All hail the greatest heavyweight boxing champion in the history of the sport. All hail King Klitschko. Dr. Steel Hammer wins by another
knockout! What a incredible stretch of history we have witnessed and it still has a long ways to go. Simply the greatest ever!

Wlad really impressed me tonight. He started a bit more aggressively than usual, but since the David Haye fight, I notice Wlad's style is a bit more aggressive. Pianeta tried his best and was here to win. This wasn't a "set up", or "easy" fight for Wlad. Pianeta was here to win and anytime you have a live opponent like that its a dangerous fight.

That right hand from Wlad behind the jab is simply the best in the sport. That left hook from Wlad was amazing tonight as well. His fighting tactics are perfect, he put his foot on the gas pedal at just the right time in R4. I predicted a 6th round TKO win for Wlad earlier in this thread and that's exactly what happened! Povetkin will probably be next and that will be a huge win for Wlad!

Tremendous win from Wlad, I was extremely impressed with him today!

Haye giving Wlad props but still fantasizing that he could beat Wlad in a rematch. LOL Now he is talking about seizing on the chimpsora victory and deserves a rematch with Wlad. Looks like he will fight and beat Charr who got slapped around by Vitali.

Here I am listening to a stream with loudmouth David Haye of course hes doing the usual "I'm the greatest the Klitschkos are ducking me", I was impressed though with his honesty about Wladmir, he admitted what a physical specimen Wlad is and his strength is in another world e.t.c

Wlad was very efficient tonight, what surprised me was that the right hand was landed on the gloves of Pianeta, but it still left him unable to get up. Pianeta wasn't in his league though, it has to be said. I still see a Povetkin KO

Well I missed it by one round. A decision would have shown that Vlad has slipped some, but with this he seems to be sharp as ever.

I really enjoy watching Vlad work.

Yes, "efficient" is a good word to describe Wlad's performance tonight. He was efficient and showed killer instinct to end the fight with a big shot. His fight tactics are perfect, and no doubt that shows his class as an undisputed World Champion, and P4P #1 boxer in the world!

I thought Wlad won rounds 1 and 2. Round 3 was close, probably Pianeta's best round of the fight. Wlad then turned on the heat in round 4, Pianeta was unable to keep up and was dropped. Round 4 to 6 was just a beatdown. I'm glad it was stopped in the 6th, because Pianeta was getting badly beaten up.

Against Povetkin, I feel Wlad would win in a similar fashion as this fight, by TKO, though probably later in the fight as Povetkin is somewhat more competent than Pianeta.

Yes, today Wlad looked tremendous, as good as I've ever seen him look. Wlad was excellent. Similar to his March 2012 KO over African-Frenchman J.M. Mormeck, some of the best performances Ive seen of Wlad since the Haye fight.

Wlad was excellent today!

Here is hands down the stupidest comment I've ever seen on a boxing forum in my life. What a self loathing white pig.

Anna Arena · Top Commenter · Кубанский Институт Международного Предпринимательства и МенеджментаI just don't GET IT! Why is Klitschko allowed to foul with "Measuring" constantly! Measuring is illegal and it is never ever called on him. And it creates a huge disadvantage for his opponents. Do professional referess not know this has ALWAYS been illegal? Why am I the only one mentioning it! It simply is a constant foul and not fair. Not that Pianeta would have probably faired better...but he might have been a little more competitive if Klitschko was not allowed to use this foul technique. It's BS! And I'm sick of it.

MANNHEIM, Germany -- Wladimir Klitschko stopped Francesco Pianeta in the sixth round Saturday night to retain the WBA and IBF heavyweight titles.

The Ukrainian was never troubled by Pianeta, finishing off the previously unbeaten Italian southpaw with a right-left combination. Pianeta stayed down before attempting to continue, but there was no point in delaying the inevitable and referee Ernie Sharif ended the bout 2:52 into the round.

"
Francesco tried. He has a fighting heart," Klitschko said. "He's a positive example in boxing. I'm sure he's learned a lot and that he has a great future ahead of him."
Klitschko rocked Pianeta inside the first 30 seconds, knocked him to the canvas with a straight right down the middle in the fourth, and again with a left blow in the fifth.

The 37-year-old Klitschko improved to 60-3 after his 52nd knockout, while Pianeta dropped to 28-1-1.

"I'm very disappointed and sad," said Pianeta, a cancer survivor who lives in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. "I can't say anything. It wasn't my day. He's the world champion. It wasn't enough. That was rubbish today."
The fighters worked together briefly last year and Klitschko tried to be kind to his former sparring partner.

"Francesco wasn't easy to box," Klitschko said. "He punched with the hardest punches I've ever felt. Luckily, they didn't hit me."
Vitali Klitschko, who holds the WBC belt, said he had no worries ahead of his younger brother's 23rd championship bout.

"My brother was very strong," Vitali Klitschko said. "Francesco has a big heart. You have to pay him respect."

Next up for the younger Klitschko is a likely bout with mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin of Russia, the "regular" WBA champion after Klitschko was elevated to "super champion" status.

It is difficult to enforce this rule for two reasons:

Wladimir keeps slightly moves his arm while doing this which means technically he has just held his arm out.

And the ref. that enforces such a rule won't work many heavyweight fights after that and can't make any money.

Anyway, it is Wlad's loss not his opponents When Wlad leaves his arm out there with those slow mini-jabs, he negates the effectiveness of his own jab. His opponents just haven't been able to take advantage of that fault.

As long as there are other opponents of which Wlad can make money with, and there are many, the K brothers are not going to put any money into Haye's pockets unless Haye becomes a mandatory defense of a title.

" just don't GET IT! Why is Klitschko allowed to foul with "Measuring" constantly! Measuring is illegal and it is never ever called on him."

Where in the boxing rules is "measuring" defined and deemed a foul? Is she talking about him sticking his left arm out occasionally? Where is there a rule saying sticking your arm out occasionally and briefly is a foul? Or keeping your arms stuck out straight in front of you all night long for that matter? I recall that was the notably unsuccessful fighting style of a particularly goofy kid in my old neighborhood when we were about eight.

The chimps on the boxing forums are begrudgingly allowing that maybe Wlad might belong in the "top 15 or 20" all time greats now, maybe right behind Leon Spinks or something. Top 15 or 20 my ass.

As for the fight, it was even a worse mismatch than I thought it would be. It was a shame. Wlad made the Italian look like a Golden Glove sub novice.

The comment about "measuring" is stupid, but not even close to the stupidest Ive ever read. Anyway, if "measuring" is a foul then Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Jones Jr. and Lennox Lewis were all just as guilty of it as Wlad has been. Of course the brainwashed poster of that comment would cry racism to that.

Larry Holmes used to use his jab like a traffic cop directing traffic. The only foul you could complain about with Wlad is his leaning on opponents, but they bend like that to avoid inside punches from him. I also finally saw the EPIX commentary it was so much better than the British one that I saw live as Beck and Dibella were calm and rational. The idiot Brit made it sound like Pianeta was landing telling blows, instead of glancing shots.
