Wladimir Klitschko vs. Bryant Jennings

I didn't watch the fight, but I hear Klitschko didn't look too good. It's surprising that Jennings did better than Povetkin against Wladimir. Remember he's 39 now so of course he is slowing down. That's why Vitali retired when he did. He knew he lost speed and wouldn't be able to fight at 100 percent any longer.

I didn't visit any boxing forums but the articles from newspaper sites I read ranged from "Wlad looked ordinary" to "Wlad wins easily." Some news sources have agendas so watch it before you decide. Jennings is hard to look good against. Wlad did as well as can be expected.

I noticed this also. I think these 'writers' are not suited to be covering boxing. They expect early knockouts. They don't give credit for wide UDs. Wlad looked very good against Pulev but Jennings is hard to look good against.

They want Wlad to lose soooooooooo damn bad! THey are rooting against him so hard, and they have to keep seeing him win.

Wlad is 39. The same age Roy Jones was when Calzaghe whooped him. IF he does lose I wonder if it will ALL be credited to his age like when Jones lost to Calzaghe. I wonder if they will say "yeah, but a PRIME Wlad would have knocked him out".

One article I read described the nearly sold out crowd (17,000+) as overwhelmingly pro-Klitschko. This goes against what media has said for years about the K Bros not being a draw in the US. When Wilder-Stiverne fought, they drew about 5,000 but the media went on and on about the 'huge television ratings.'

I want Wlad to keep fighting. I do agree though that he needs to add some body shots to his offensive game. It would really help to set
up easier knockouts. I've seen many guys knocked out with body shots too. Whether you bruise or break their ribs, a guy can't breath so
it stops them everytime. Would have loved to see some of that last night. Overall I can't complain. Wlad is a legend and I love watching him fight. It will be a sad day when he is gone forever.

Exactly right. IF Wlad lost the theme would be "SEE just what we knew all along. THe Heavyweight division was weak, but NOW its back!"

Hey New York City. F*ck you and the Jew that rode in on you. What a set-up. From the biased broadcast team (even Lampley was in on it this time) to that no-name Canuck ref who doesn't know clinching is a legal tactic in boxing. Vlad was on the verge of a DQ loss in the late rounds. You could tell he was pissed after the fight. Yeah they really put out the welcome mat for Vlad this time.

Jennings put in a credible effort, but I've never seen so much praise for a fighter losing a clear cut decision. Shows how dominant Vlad has been. I had to hit the mute button at round eight. Lampley and especially Kellerman were giving away their pent-up frustration at the K brothers being so good for so long. Let's hope they can make a Wilder fight in the Garden and Vlad can rub their noses in it.

There are notable examples of black fighters who use holding and clinching as one of their main tactics. Mayweather and Hopkins come to mind immediately. Mayweather held repeatedly against Hatton, yet Hatton was not allowed to clinch at all against him. When Hatton tried to clinch the Hispanic ref (I forget who it was) would slap at his arms from behind. It was like he was actively helping Mayweather. Hopkins would just hold constantly, but when he did the ringside crew would laud him like it was a brilliant pugilistic strategy. Yet when Wlad does, according to the HBO crew he is cheating and should be deducted a point. Caste System in effect.

Another workman like effort from Wlad. He's not a particularly exciting fighter. He stays at a distance, rips jab after jab, moves well because he's in great shape and grabs his smaller opponents whenever they try to get inside. He's unbeatable at this point unless he ages out of the great shape he is in or somehow gets hit with a lucky punch.

There was no more boring fighter then Ali for most of his career, he was gassed by the 3rd round and clutched and grabbed while throwing in a few flurries which encouraged the sympathetic judges to give him decisions. And don't even start with "rope-a-dope" which would get a white fighter banned.

Problem with the heavyweight division is it has been dominated by the K bros for so long that no decent challengers have been able to develop. The division is so cleaned out by the Klitschko's that anytime a young guy wins a few fights they put him up against the champ too soon so he loses and is forgotten. If those guys could fight for a while then maybe they would be better opponents.

Wlad probably could have finished Jennings if he wanted to step on the gas but he is too smart for that at this stage in the game and why risk injury or standing there trading shots against an inferior opponent. I think he should KO Wilder in spectacular fashion, then retire.

Id like to add that Wlads new trainer Johnathan Banks had him warming up much sooner, and much more rigorously. Perhaps this is not the best thing for him. Hes been dominating all these years without a prolonged, intense warm up. I dont agree with Banks decision to do this, and I hope in the future he goes back to what Wlad is use to.

WBO has mandated that Wlad fight Tyson Fury next. Tyson Fury and Frank Warren had both iterated their willingness to make the fight. It seems like this will be next for Wlad.

I think Fury, because of his size and toughness may prove a harder fight than expected for Wlad.
