Wladimir Klitschko engaged to be married to Hayden Panettiere

Hey guys, Im sure all of you who frequent this forum know how Im such a big fan of boxing. Boxing is the only sport I really follow and Ive been following it since I was a teen, since about 2000 or so! But more than just watching fights, I usually like to keep up-to-date with the latest boxing gossip (who`s dating who, who`s getting arrested, etc).

One thing that`s always amazed me is how Wlad was getting into his mid 30`s but still single and no kids. Of course, his brother Vitali, is married to an Ukrainian athlete and they have a bunch of kids. But for the longest time it just seemed like Wlad liked the `playboy` lifestyle of being single and never wanted to settle down.

Wlad and Hayden Panettiere started dating in 2010 I think it was, and when I first heard of that I was like `No way`, because she is so short (5`1) and he is so tall (6`7) not to mention they are like 15 years apart in age. Wlad just turned 37 and Hayden must be only 23 or so years old.

Personally I think Wlad is such a great boxer and a very smart guy. Delaying marriage until 37 and marrying a young girl (in her low 20`s) is a great way to do it. What a smart, classy guy. This way he was able to stay single for most of his young life, and have a great time enjoying life, then when he settles down in late 30`s he chooses a young wife. Thats how I want to live my own life as well!

What does everyone think about this? Do you think they are a nice couple? Thoughts or comments?

Yea, well they did break up in Summer 2011, a month or so before Wlad`s super fight with David Haye.

Obviously I don`t know Wlad personally, but I think that means probably that Wlad wanted distance and felt she was interfering with his preparation for the fight. That`s good that he did that because it shows he`s a professional first and foremost. It seems that now in the past few months, they`ve gotten back together and just yesterday, its been reported by about 10 different sources that they are engaged to be married this summer.

I think they`re an awesome couple. Wlad is such an intelligent man as well, he really played his cards correctly. Managing to stay single until 37 means he really enjoyed his life with no commitments, then when he gets older marries a younger girl. That`s just awesome and probably the best way to live life.

In fairness, maybe the reason why he is marrying a female so young is because he wants to have several kids, thats what I think. Since Wlad is 37, marrying a woman around his own age would be problematic due to relative diminished fertility. But because he is marrying someone 23, he could easily have 2, 3, or even 4 kids like his older bro Vitali!

In either case, Wlad`s personal life is his own business! I`m a huge fan of him and whether he has kids or not won`t change that. It`s his personal choice. I suspect he will though, because his brother has several kids, and why else would he select such a young wife you know. Probably the reason he`s marrying Hayden is cause she`s so young and can bear a lot of kids!

Also, perhaps one of the reasons he`s delayed having kids is because he wanted to fully focus on his boxing career. Nothing wrong with that, men can have kids much later than women. No rush.

Star marriages are frought with divorces. I recall only few that last into their golden years, and boxers with female stars or wives in general is a disaster waiting to happen. For the record, I'm a *Huge* supporter or Wlad and I just think he's an awesome guy even outside of the ring (from his personal interviews, appearances, and portrayal of his personal life). His athletic achievements (Olympic Gold Medalist, Over a decade long reign as heavyweight champion) put him in Boxing Alltime Great Status, and more than just boxing I'd say that Wlad is quite possibly the best currently active athlete in all of sports. It is hard to find an athlete in any sport that has dominated for a length of time and extent that is comparable to his reign as heavyweight champion.

I think him and Hayden are a very nice couple and look great together. Some people may say the height difference and age difference is "weird" but I think its nice and every couple is different. I do agree with what some posters have noted above that its a bit risky for him to be marrying such a young girl. But clearly, Wlad wants kids and thats why he's marrying a younger girl. Wlad had a lot of options and I guess the reason he's choosing Hayden is because she has the best likelihood of bearing children.

Wlad is a real standup guy and I don't think any woman is going to boss him around. Actually, Wlad has always struck me as a bit of a "racially aware" white man. Him and his brother are both very intelligent. His brother is a model "family man" and I think Wlad knows what he's doing here. Mature, successful guy + younger girl is a great pairing and its one that can produce a lot of kids. Actually, its completely normal for a man to be 10+ older than his wife, and its only in recent times (post 1920's) that people started marrying their own age.

Anyways, I hope Wlad and Hayden have a successful marriage

I think the few that have lasted both people are humble and have a settled life style like Max Schmeling and his wife.

Yes, I recently watched a newly made German film called "Fist of the Reich" which was a biography piece on Max Schmeling, talking about his boxing career, affiliations with Nazi Germany, and his marriage with wife Annie. In the movie, he was portrayed as having a very strong marriage which survived various ups and downs in his personal life.

Movies and real life are quite often two different things! But still, it is widely said by many sources that Max had a strong marriage. Interestingly, Max also was highly involved in both Klitschko Brothers' careers, acting as a mentor, he inspired Vitali so much that Vitali named one of his sons "Max" after Max Schmeling!

I think it was wise of Vlad to wait this long. A good solid woman can be a real motivater, but the wrong one can really take a guy down. I'm guessing Vitali found a good one who has contributed to his being so solid day and and day out year after year. Other guys...well, heaven only knows how many have gone into a fight with their head somewhere else and got taken out because their little lady at home was on the warpath.

As far as I know they only broke up one time in roughly May/June 2011. That was one month before Wladimir's superfight with David Haye (which subsequently went on to be the most watched boxing match in boxing history). At the time of their breakup, Wlad said in an interview that the breakup was due to distance and they were still friends. Throughout his career, Wlad has almost always trained in the Austrian Alps for all of his fights, so its impractical for him to be dating an American while he's spending at least 6 months of the year or even more in Austria. Though, I notice on his facebook page, for his upcoming fight VS Pianeta, Wlad seems to be training in Miami. So I guess he has changed his training location to correspond with the engagement.

No one in life is perfect. Wladimir is a role model athlete and an alltime great boxer. He doesn't necessarily have to be a role model person. I think he has his own personal reasons for selecting her and her age will certainly give him a great chance at having kids. Personally, I think mature man and younger female is a great couple.

Nevertheless, I hope the best for their marriage.

I don't know about that (are you a common troll?), but something else does bother me about Wlad (besides his tiny paramour from Rockland County)- and keep in mind that I maintain that Wlad and Vitali are by far the two greatest heavyweights of all time - and that is the way he just stood there smiling when that black African cannibal Chisora gratuitously spit in his face - and the rest of his corner didn't do anything either (and the referee should have disqualified Chisora right then and there!). I think that if that had happened to any other boxer the place would have erupted into a pier six brawl, and if a white fighter spit in a n's face the n's in the audience would have been storming the ring. Maybe he was just in shock because they're not used to human-ape hybrids in the Ukraine.

I think you're right about it! That still burns me to this day. Some White guys take being civilized too far and that was a perfect example.

I also don't think he gave him the beat down he deserved in that fight. If ever a K-bro should have got fired up that was the time. But they are apparently mechanical men to the end. At least it's a winning formula.

That wasn't the same Vitali in the Chisora fight. He's up there in age now at 40. Ten years ago Vitali would have given Chisora the beating of his life. Now it's not so easy for him at 40. He has to be more cautious than ever, he's lost quite a bit of speed but still light years ahead of the competition.
