Yes but look at the quarterbacks that have had the most success running the spread, white quarterbacks all the way back to when Drew Brees running an early version of it at Purdue and took his team to the Rose Bowl, a team that wasn't considered to have a lot of talent. Colt McCoy is the winningest quarterback in the history of college football. Tim Tebow is probably the best football player to play college football. I know there are different types of spread like Texas Tech's airraid and Florida's spread option, the running concepts that UF used with Tebow are not that much different than the option Nebraska was running when Eric Crouch and Scott Frost were there, 2 quarterbacks who would do just as well in an offense like what RichRod runs, especially a guy like Crouch, the only difference would be that they are in shotgun instead of under center. Every now and then there will be a Pat White (who was slightly above average imo) but for the most part its white quarterbacks that are excelling the spread, because they can run just as well but usually have better passing skills.
They can hype up all the afflete qbs they want, but at the end of the day the best ones are usually going to be white. Its like back when all those black quarterbacks were drafted early and were going to be "the future of the NFL", only McNabb has had a successful career.
You also have to remember sometimes some of the most highly touted afflete qbs will want to choose a pro style offense over a spread offense, as they are motivated by greed, thinking they will have a better shot of making it to the NFL. Terrelle Pryor is an example of this. The funny part is, it really hasn't helped his draft stock.
