Saturday's Kentucky-Mississippi State game will include Lyons and Lance Long, State's leader in receptions with 21 catches, but for only 143 yards and a TD. His QBs and blocking have been bad or he would have better stats.

Huge understatement there, CR.

Here's a re-post from the Kentucky team thread. I thought I would put it here also.

Compared to Heisman candidate Calvin Johnson, Lyon's stats aren't too bad. I still haven't heard any All-American candidate or for sure Top 5 draft pick status for Lyons.

Through 7 games Lyons has 31 catches for 524 yds (16.9 ypc) with 8 touchdowns with a long reception of 80 yards in the MSM's "best conference in the country". He's averaging 75 yards / game receiving.

Through 8 games Johnson has 40 catches for 627 yds (15.7 ypc) with 9 touchdowns with a long reception of 66 yards in the ACC. He's averaging 78.4 yards / game receiving.

Mississippi State's Lance Long had a key 12 yard reception in the 4th quarter to allow them to run out the clock to beat Alabama for the first time since 2000.

Dicky Lyons Jr. had 5 catches for 48 yards and TE Jacob Tamme had 4 for 33 in a big win over Georgia.

Auburn WR Lee Guess had a nice 38 yard catch, but Tre Smith didn't get any runs, catches, or special teams work. What a joke!

The Shark broke the Irish record for career receiving TDs with 23. He ended the game with 6 catches for 178 yards and the aforementioned score. TE John Carlson had 8 grabs for 92 yards and a TD, and Chase Anastasio had a 7 yard catch.

UNLV's Ryan Wolfe had three catches for 63 yards in his latest game. he now has 704 receiving yards for the season, already the UNLV freshman receiving record and the second highest total by a freshman in MWC history.
smiley32.gif
He needs just 68 total yards in his final three games to break the conference freshman receiving mark of 771 yards set in 2004 by BYU's Austin Collie, another white receiver. good luck Ryan!

none of us have mentioned Wisconsin's Luke Swan. he has emerged as the Badgers top deep threat, averaging just over 17 yards per catch and tied for the team lead with 4 TD catches. for the year, he's got 495 receiving yards on 28 catches. the coaches rave about his improvement this year, and it's really starting to show.

he had 4 catches for 113 yards and a TD against Iowa on Saturday.

in the same game, Iowa youngster Trey Stross caught a 24-yard TD and sophomore speedster Andy Brodell had 2 catches for 18 yards.

Utah's trio of Derrek Richards, Brian Hernandez, and Bradon Godfrey combined for 10 catches, 163 yards, and 1 TD.

Colorado State's Luke Roberts beat Eric Weddle for a 51-yard TD grab. Dustin Osborne had 2 catches for 51 yards.

UNLV's Casey Flair had 7 for 76, while Ryan Wolfe added 6 for 79.

Jeff Samardzija had 6 for 106 and a TD.

David Ball had 10 for 112.

BYU's Johnny Harline had 6 for 104 and a TD, while freshman McKay Jacobson added 3 for 26 but also had a 77-yard punt return for a TD.

Alabama's Will Oakley had 4 for 51.

Kentucky's Dicky Lyons had 3 for 66.

North Texas' Johnny Quinn had 2 for 23 and a TD.

Arizona State's Zach Miller had 6 for 84, Brent Miller had 4 for 81, and Chris McGaha had a 34-yard TD catch.
smiley32.gif

Eastern Michigan's Eric Deslauriers 3 for 35.

SMU's Bobby Chase had only 1 catch for 9 yards.

Tulsa's Ryan Bugg had 7 for 145. he's had a solid year for the surprising Tulsa team, with 32 catches for 448 yards and 4 TDs.
smiley32.gif

Minnesota's Logan Payne got back on track with 5 for 96, including a 41-yard TD. Matt Spaeth added 4 for 51.
smiley32.gif

Illinois' Kyle Hudson had just 1 catch for 27 yards despite afaletic "Juice" Williams playing QB and getting lots of hype from ESPN. Da "Juice" was 8-29 passing for 93 yards and an INT, but he rushed for 146 yards in a blow-out loss... so of course "the Juice is loose"

Ohio State's Anthony Gonzalez caught 2 for 34 and a TD, and Brian Hartline had a breakout game with 3 catches for 47 yards and 2 TDs.
smiley32.gif

Iowa State QB bret meyer is killing Todd Blythe! He didn't have a single catch! The worst thing about it is meyer is just a junior. Ugh!
smiley11.gif

Texas A&M's Chad Schroeder has 2 for 52.

Nebraska's Todd Peterson had 7 for 82 and a TD, but Nate Swift had just one catch for 17 yards.

Wake Forest's Nate Morton had 3 for 50.

Hey Jimmy, I don't mean to step on your toes
smiley2.gif
, but I didn't know Wale Forest had a white WR.
smiley36.gif

Also, there were some big games by Ivy League guys that I don't want to overlook, including Matt Carre, who had 4 grabs for 61 for Harvard; Ryan Fuselier at Dartmouth had 7 for 99; while Princeton's Brenden Circle had 12 for an amazing 178 yards and 2 TDs. Team-mate Brian Brigham had 6 catches for an equally awesome 121 yards and a TD. Columbia wide-out Nick DeGasparis also had a good game with 5 grabs for 64 yards.

These guys consistently put up good numbers and its good to see them doing so well. I just wish they would compete in the I-AA playoffs!

Eastern Michigan WR Eric Deslauriers had 7 catches for 116 yards tonight to lead all receivers in the game. That brings him up to 870 yards receiving on the year with Northern Illinois still to play. That gives the 6-4 and a half, 25 year old from Quebec 3,222 yards receiving in his career on 242 catches, along with 27 TDs. That makes him 7th all time in the MAC in receiving yardage and 4th all time in MAC receptions! Way to go Eric!

Dartmouth's Brian Evans catching a pass, with Princeton's (original winged helmet design) Tim Strickland on the defense.

Riley Cooper is someone to watch in the future. With his size and 4.3 speed, he is special. I am surprised that they played him this late in the season and pulled his redshirt. Go Riley!!

for his three touchdowns on three receptions totalling 82 yards, Florida's Riley Cooper was named the SEC Freshman PoW.
smiley32.gif
btw, he is the first Florida freshman to catch 3 TD passess since Jabar Gaffney in 2000.

Wow, that is big news! His name sounds old school, to me anyway. I don't know if sporthistorian or whitelightning is lurking about, but I'm sure he's seen the clips of Archie Manning throwing strikes to Split End Riley Myers against Tennessee in 1969. When I Riley Cooper for the first time, I thought of him just because of the name and position.

Anthony Gonzalez had 4 catches for 50 yards and a TD vs. Michigan. While teammate Brian Hartline had 3 catches for 21 yards.
Gonzo's season totals are 49 catches for 723 yards (14.8 YPC) and 8 TDs and Hartline's totals are 16 catches for 243 yards (15.2 YPC) and 2 TDs.
smiley32.gif

I really like Hartline considering he's a freshmen putting up some good numbers and that he really came on strong at the end of the year. His numbers will go up a lot next year(same for Gonzo) if Ginn leaves early.
