White RBs and 100-yard games

I know the "Franchise" made the hall because of his all purpose yards. But the intrinsic worth of Willard's 6500 career yards is probably the equivalent of 10k yards in the current era. Willard has a case to at least be a seniors nominee. I know Chuck Foreman has has lobbying for him and he rushed 1k less yards than Willard did and their playing careers overlapped.

I'm pleased to find that one of my favorite players when I was a kid--Bill Brown of the Vikings--had over 11 yards in 1973 against the Lions. He had several other 100 yd games in the 60s.

I doubt very many of us could on the pro level for two reasons. 1. Most of us aren't old enough to have been around when it was fairly common.

2. If some others are like me, we didn't have enough money to go to such a game, in part because it would have required an overnight stay because we lived a long way from the nearest NFL stadium.

Until the Oilers came to Nashville and became the Titans, I didn't live close to a pro team, and I haven't seen the Titans in person either.

I have seen a white RB gain over 100 yards in person on the college level. Curt Watson ran for over 100 yards for Tennessee against Vanderbilt in 1969 and Mississippi State in 1971. I was in the stands for both games.

How many CFers can say they saw a white RB run for over 100 yards in person for an SEC team? Especially for Tennessee?

I saw Jacob Hester against Florida in Oct 2007, 106 yards 1 td, but yeah a long drought in the SEC.
one of the things that woke me up as a dwf and led me to this site. He is the reason they won that game, without him, no national championship. But dwf LSU fans don't remember that anymore.

I'm glad you are back, jaxvid. I wasn't sure if it was really you until that post.

I spent a lot of my growing up years in Louisiana (NW) and Tennessee (pre-Titans) too, and of course more recently I spent 5 football seasons in Utah (500+ miles to Denver). It would have to have been 1985 or up for me to remember it anyway, so that cuts the NFL number down by over half.

As it is, I've seen just one 100+ yard performance by a White college RB in person and that was the only 100 yard game Mike Hague (3rd string at the time) has had for BYU so far. He'll be a Senior next year. It was against UNLV in 2006.

My dad says we were there when Gill Fenerty rushed for 100 against Minnesota. I don't remember it, but I was young. Still questionable because he gets players/games he took me to confused sometimes. One of the only backs I remember seeing live for the Saints for Ironhead who looked to be about 300 pounds. He said he saw Hokie rush for 113 against the Jets, which i didn't realize was missing from the list.

1983 Hokie Gajan 11 carries 113 yards against the New York Jets. He had a long of 58 yards, 10 ypc.

Running from the fullback spot Hokie has one of the highest ypc for a primary back in a single season.

On January 5, 1964 Keith Lincoln in the AFL Championship game against the Boston Patriots, rushed 13 times for 206 yards, caught seven passes for 123 yards, and completed a 20 yard pass.

In all, he accounted for 349 total yards and two touchdowns as the Chargers captured the league championship by defeating the Patriots 51-10. Holy cow!

Danny Woodhead deserves special mention for his 104-yard receiving game against the Jets today.

I'm afraid he's going to have to break a really long run to get a 100-yard rushing game with the few carries he gets each week, but we'll keep hoping for the best.

If quarterbacks count, Bears QB Bobby Douglass had 3 100 yard rushing games in the 70s, by far the highlights of his career (Bobby was a sort of white, non-criminal and slighly more intelligent Michael Vick).
