There will be a lot of them in the 1970s compared to the 80s. I have a hunch there may have been more 100 yard games in the 70s by white players than in the 60s. This would be because the run was more prevelant in that decade.

I never thought about that, sport historian. It is going to be a fun little research project. I don't know why, but I really enjoy doing this kind of stuff.

Glad you appreciate my optimism guys! As I've noted before I believe we can directly or indirectly influence what happens. My theory of the Caste System is that it's multi-headed, and one big facet of it is fan perception and player's perceptions of themselves, which we have the ability to change. As fare as owners and ESPN and stuff, we can't do much but nothing stops us from using the internet to not only grow awareness of the Caste System but also support for white athletes. It doesn't bother me one bit that Cleveland fans are raving over Hillis even if they have no clue about he Caste System.

I have to be optimistic to balance out some of the opinions I see that sometimes stated as fact. One I have to take exception to is that every now and then the argument has been made that DWFs would never support a white running back and would rather have an inferior black RB. This argument has been shattered into a million pieces by Hillis and the fan reaction in Cleveland.

I always say just remember "it ain't over til it's over..." This goes for white athletes in college and pro ball as well as the state of our country and society as a whole!

Sorry about not posting more often, and even being a hypocrite for asking others to post pro-white athlete comments 3 times a day on youtube, ESPN, etc. Those who have been here a while have seen that I have had some long absences before, usually during the football off-season but sometimes even during the season. Last year I followed the Heisman race intensely, this year not so much even though Luck has an narrow chance to win it.

Either way I'm glad to see CF getting record traffic with the success of Hillis, Woodhead, and Gerhart just starting to get things rolling. To bad Kuhn has been phased out, but unlike other years at least we have multiple guys to follow. I still hope beyond hope that guys like Kuhn, Hester, and Leonard will end up being starting RBs somewhere, whether it's through a smart coach or a stroke of luck due to injuries, etc.

I just did a quick search relating to my post above. During the 1960s, there were 8 thousand yard seasons by white RBs in pro football, 6 in the NFL, 2 in the AFL.

Five of the 8 were by Jim Taylor, five years in succession 1960-64. The other 3 were John David Crow (1960), Charley Tolar (1962), and Hoyle Granger (1967).

White RBs had 13 thousand yard seasons during the 1970s. There were three by Larry Csonka (1971-73), 3 by John Riggins (1975, 1978, 1979), 3 by Mark van Eeghen (1976-78), and one each by Steve Owens (1971), Marv Hubbard (1972), Jim Otis (1975), and Rocky Bleier (1976). Edited by: sport historian

Very interesting info, historian! I would not have thought there would be that much of a difference. Only 3 of those performances in the 70s benefited from the 16 game season which started in 1978.

I know Hoyle Granger's son from a few years back. His son was built like an RB. I don't even remember if he played high school football, although I imagine he did.

i thought matt suey had a 1000 yard season for the bears

The most rushing yards Matt Suhey ever had was 681 yards in 1983. He did have over 1,000 yards from scrimmage that year because he had 429 yards receiving.

I know Sports Historian mentioned Football Reference, but another good starting point isif you go on toNFL.com, you can get historical stats from any year. You can start by running down the list and just weed out any guys who did not have at least 150 yards rushingfor the season. I linked a good starting point. If you guys need some help, need a specific year or era or a certain guys numbers researched, let me know.

I've been using NFL.com for a while. I'll definitely be using it this weekend. I didn't know if could be set up like that for each season. Pretty interesting to look at, comparing it with the ESPN stats leader board of today.

With pro football reference you get the game logs back to 1960. This is necessary for the older players.

Yep, pro football reference has been very useful as well. I wish I had a book with a lot of that type of info in it. I'm guessing they'd be pretty expensive if you could find one.

i think Rob Carpenter had several 100 yd games in the 80s.

Good find Jack, here's the proof: He had 10 during his career, most were in thein the 1980's

Rick Kane also had 1 in the 1970's and 1980's

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/K/KaneRi00/gamelog//

Actor Ed Marinaro had 2 in 1976. He must've suffered a career ending injury that year (this was before I was following football), because he was off to a great start before disappearing

Don McCauley also had 2 in the 1970's

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/McCaDo00/gamelog//

Scott Laidlaw had one. I don't remember this guy, but I have some retro football cards and I think he's white?

P.S: I'll log back on tommorow to find some more....

Here's a odd one. A few weeks ago I was looking up Scott Lockwood...I founda bunch of DWF's were debating on a old message board which NFL player had at least one 100 yard game, but the fewest career yards? One poster mentioned a guy that had appeared on the cover of SI as a "Heisman candidate" (mockingly by the marxists?) back in 1986.....I think it's this guy Dudek....Catch here is his 100 yard game was a "strike game/replacement game"....I think he belongs on the list, as it was a official NFL game...but

Reb, I'm not 100% sure this guy is white, but I think he is: Larry Moriarty -- 3 100 yard games in the 1980's

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MoriLa00/gamelog//

Another "likely" white rb that had a couple 100's in the 1970's: Larry Schreiber

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/SchrLa00/gamelog//

Saw this guy on "ESPN Classic' a few years ago, when they showed weekly NFL hi-light's from the 1970's....90% sure he's white, despite a name that doesn't sound white: Fred Willis, 1 100 yard game in the 1970's:

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WillFr00/gamelog//

Here's a quasi-media celebrity, who I never saw play, but I'm 100% sure he's white: Mike Adamle

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/A/AdamMi01/gamelog//

Saw this guy on ESPN Classic, also...as a college superstar/megastar at Nebraska? Jeff Kinney, had only two 100 yard games in the 1970's as a pro:

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/K/KinnJe00/gamelog//

Reb, I had to google this guy, who I knew nothing about. Saw a Topps card of him from the early 1970's, so he's good for the list, one game in 1972:

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/D/DresDo00/gamelog/

Here's another one, confirmed via Topps football cards?

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/ClemVi00/gamelog//

This is all I got tonight, the 1970's is real tough....because I don't a lot of players...but I think I added some good names tonight...guys that have long been forgetten, but should not be.

I remember Larry Schreiber. He was briefly something of a fan favorite in San Francisco. Fred Willis is white, also. It was not unusual for white RBs to have 100 yard rushing games in the 1970s. Edited by: sport historian

Dudek ran for 100 yards on Monday Night Football I recall him having maybe two rushing touchdowns for Denver. I also recall the announcers talking about the exotic jobs that the replacement players had a few weeks before. Moriarty was probably the last White running back to be the feature back for Notre Dame. Later he was a running fullback for the Oilers in the mid 80's and racked up similar numbers to Brad Muster. Didn't know Dan Dierking of Purdue had a dad who played there as well as the NFL. Too bad he didn't get much time except for his senior season. I am guessing Dan won't get a chance like his dad. Ranked 23rd fullback out of 95, at 5'10 195 pounds.

Thanks for all the info, Truthteller! I remember Moriarty from some ESPN Classic games as well. I'll check on some of the others and update the list.

Ken Willard was a fairly big name from 1965-73 (the 49ers drafted him ahead of Gale Sayers), and appeared in 4 pro bowls. I just checked pro football reference and found that he had 3 100-yard games in the 70s and 6 in the 60s.

A funny thing, when Floyd Little was elected to the HOF this year, Ken Willard's son applauded Little's selection and said that his father should also be in the Hall since his career numbers were about the same. You could say the same for the Redskin's Larry Brown.
