In a clash for the WBC super welterweight silver title, unbeaten Saul Alvarez (34-0-1, 26 KOs) showed what all the excitment is about with a spectacular knockout of former world champion Carlos Baldomir (45-13-6, 14 KOs). A left hook dropped Baldomir face first for the count. Time was 2:58.

It appears that this kid is the real deal. His balance, footwork, speed and the way his punches flow effortlessly and big reasons he is being touted as the next big thing, especially in Mexico. I see him as unstoppable in a year or two in the welterweight division.

It looks like he will be future world champion. He has the hand speed boxing ability and a decent beard. The only minor problem I see is he might be too stocky to move up much in divisions. At 154 he looked like a heavily muscled guy. You have to figure that he is going to fill out since he is only 20. I don't see him having the frame to compete with elite of the 160 pound division.

Yeah and I'm glad, we already have whites dominating from 160 thru heavyweight, what we need now is a guy like this at welterweight who can have huge pay-per-view fights against guys like Pacquiao.

His sensationally exciting boxing style reminds me of the ill-fated Edwin Valero.

Canelo's brother fought last night winning the vacant WBA Super Welterweight title on points.

From fightnews.com

Rigoberto Alvarez (26-2, 19 KOs), brother of hot welterweight prospect Saul Alverez, claimed the vacant WBA super welterweight championship by twelve round split decision over current interim beltholder Nobuhiro Ishida (22-6-2, 7 KOs) on Saturday night at the Palenque de la Feria in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico. It was a very close fight with a seventh round knockdown supplying the margin of victory for Rigo. Scores were 114-113, 115-112 for Alvarez and 114-113 for Ishida.

It was Alvarez' first bout in the 154lb division after campaigning most his career at super middleweight. The fight was for the WBA "vacant"Â￾ title after the organization moved reigning world champion Miguel Cotto to "super champion"Â￾ status.

Next up for Saul is former IBF Jr Welterweight Champion Lovemore N'Dou.

It's at 10:30PM central time tonight. It will be carried free on WBCBoxing.tv, but blacked out in Mexico and USA. Maybe there's a way to get around that...</font></font>

now the stream is screwin up

It lagged in the 11th, but by the end of the 12th it was working again.

Nice performance by Alvarez. I thought he won every round.

Canelo Alvarez Update

Recently it has been known that highly regarded Mexican prospect Saul "Canelo"Â￾ Alvarez may land a fight with the WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko in March 2011. For many, it's a big surprise that Canelo could fight for the WBA and not the WBC title. According to promoter Eddy Reynoso of Canelo Promotions, Alvarez could fight anyone who would provide a better future. European champion Matthew Hatton has also been mentioned as a possible foe. In addition, there is talk of a three fight plan with Golden Boy Promotions culminating in a world title fight in the U.S.

Hey guys tonight on HBO Alvarez is fighting Matthew Hatton for te WBA 154 lb title. It would be great win for Hatton. But I think Saul is too powerful and quick for Hatton at 150 lbs. In fact I read if Saul came in a lb over 150 the fight would be cancelled.

Golden Boy is wasting no time promoting Canelo as the the next 'it' fighter to the masses, especially the Hispanic masses. I predict a middle round stoppage.

Alvarez weighed a 1.4 lb over the agreed limit. He will pay a fine to Hatton. The contract states that he cannot come into the ring above 160 lbs. Looks like the odds are increasing against Hatton.

Hatton is really just a club fighter Alvarez should pick him apart. I guess Alvarez's days as a welterweight are over. As he looked drawn and gaunt making 151 pounds. It's been a bad few weeks for White Mexican fighters as Soto-Karass lost a rematch to Mike Jones and Fernando Montiel was destroyed by Donaire. This fight should reverse that trend.

Yeah WIR just checked out the weigh in photos. His days at welterweight are over. Both look to be in outstanding condition. Should be an interesting fight for however long it lasts. Winner goes on to further acclaim and riches, the loser has to start over.

I'm afraid Hatton is just the designated loser here. The Mexicans in southern California will be going crazy over Alvarez. They do love their gueros!

First off Matthew is no club fighter. Probably a 2nd tier fighter. He was able to go the distance with Canelo. Matthew just did not have anything to keep Canelo honest. He is no effective at welterweight.

This kid Alvarez is something for a 20 year old with no amature background to speak of. He is quite balanced and relaxed in the ring. Hatton craftiness bothered him a bit, but he is only 20 years old. Looks like was born to fight. Although it went the distance, Alvarez showed great stamina and had Hatton hurt in the closing seconds of the last round.

I see continued success for Alvarez.

Many Mexican legends have turned pro at 14 or 15 and have used their early pro career as an informal apprenticeship. The team around the youngster put him in with blown up club fighters that are 30+. I suspect they don't put him in with a live opponent for a few years. I didn't mean to put down Hatton with the term. I meant he is a winning club fighter similar to Peter Manfredo, not quite real world class.

Actually, I thought they were both impressive. I thought that Hatton was going in there to take a quick fall, and when I first saw him I said he looks sick and weak, like he has AIDS or something, but he was great, just didn't have the strength to hurt Alvarez. I thought that Alvarez showed a little lack of sportsmanship at the end. Hatton smiled at him and went to shake his hand and got ignored for his trouble.

Did you see the prelim with Ponce de Leon beating the Negro but the judges awarded the fight to the N? Boxing is so f'ing crooked. They don't even bother to hide it. And then the hired announcers, Max &amp; Co., how quickly they toned down their surprise and toed the party line!

The judge that scored the fight 99-91 was Tony Crebs, the same crook that scored Adamek-Arreola a draw.
