. That's Saul Alvarez, THE young prospect coming out of Mexico, who is only 19 and has already built up a record of 30-0-1 with some solid wins against guys like Lanardo Tyler(21-3) and Carlos Herrera(21-2). Canelo(cinnamon) is already a big star in his home country and since he's signed with Golden Boy Promotions it probably won't be to long before you see him on HBO undercards.

There are plenty of youtube videos up. My impression is that he's still very raw but this kid is already showing a lot of caginess in the ring and he's going to get a lot better as he gets older.

Saul is definitely a prospect to keep an eye on. Several months ago there was a thread about mixing of early Irish immagrants during the mid 1800s who were pissed at the US and settle and mixed with Mexicos indegious people as well as the Spainards. Some called these mixed people Patricos. Saul looks like a decendant.

The Celts settled in the northwestern third of Spain during the first millenium BC, just as they moved into the British Isles. In some of the villages in that area, people look like the folks in Ireland.

Saul looks full blooded Irish to me. Perhaps his ancetors retained their genetic line by living among the natives and not breeding with them. Interesting how he is accepted among the Mexicans; they seem to be more tolerant of white people than other ethinic groups.

I heard Saul is fighting on the Pacquiao v Clottey undercard. I am very interested in seeing him fight. If he has the goods, he could be a major crossover star here and Mexico.

From Fightnews:

WBC #4/WBA #7/WBO #5 welterweight Saul "Canelo"Â￾ Alvarez moved to 31-0-1, 23 KOs with a crushing third round KO over "The Golden Greek"Â￾ Brian Camechis (19-3, 8 KOs) on Saturday night at the Palenque de la Feria, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico. After dominating round one, Alvarez dropped Camachis twice in round two and finished him with a huge left hook early in round three. Alvarez retained his NABF title.

I had a boss from northern Mexico who had fair skin, green eyes and blonde hair. He said that the families of obvious European descent look down on inter-marriage with the meztizios almost as much as they do on blacks. SO yes there are "WHITE" Mexicans.

Yep - about 10-12% of Mexicans are white (though most are Spanish).

Good luck to this kid. I'm glad the Mexicans like him. If he were a red headed, pale kid from the U.S. he would be hated by the DWFs and called a "great white hope" by the media.

By the way, anyone here remember Danny "Little Red" Lopez? He was a white Mexican who was an excellent fighter in the late 70s.

Liverlips I remember Danny "Little Red" Lopez. He was one of my favs back in the day. He had a tremendeous following during the 70s. He could have reigned alot longer as a featherweight, but along came HOFer Salvador Sanchez. Little Red was never the same after two beatings he took from Salvador.

Yeah there is alot of buzz from Mexico and here regarding this kid Saul Alvarez.

Regarding Mexicans who are white. Most dominate national politics and live in Mexico City and both Coasts.

Saul fights tonight on the Mayweather-Mosley PPV undercard. He'll face Miguel Cotto's brother Jose Miguel Cotto 31-1-1(23).

Ok. The 4 keys to Shane's victory
1. Est good stiff jB.
2. Circle to Mayweather's right
3. Relax and lower the right toward the end of the rd.
4. Conserve energy for the last 3 rds

For me a fitting ending would be for Saccharin Shane to KTFO Gayweather and then fail the pee pee test. It would be fitting justice for all involved....

From the round by round I was reading Saul was badly hurt in the first round...almost stopped but he recovered and floored Cotto in the second.

Over 30 people in the boxing section and most of them on this thread. A lot of lurkers out there

Not the best fight I've seen of either two (Floyd's fight are anything but exciting). I think they gutted it out for the cash.

Solid win and showing by Alvarez!

Alvarez is really good for some who's just 19/20 years old. He's really viewed as a typical Mexican despite his Nordic looks. Danny Lopez is clearly white despite his identification with Native American culture.
