A young jumper to keep an eye on in future years. . . Eusebio Cáceres from Spain.
He is 19 years old, and just set a national junior record in the LJ of 26ft and 3 inches.
Hope to see more long jumps from him in the future.

Fabrice Lapierrea 1st 8.20 0.0 a few days ago. The Aussies are really doing great with their long jumpers. They should be among the favorites to win medalsat the European Championships.

FabriceLapierre hit a new PR in the long jump 8.40 (27' 6 4/3").Agains as I've said before, theAussies arepretty much dominatingmany of the long jump contests! Greatresult for Fabrice. Mitchell Watt has been battling an injury but hopefully he will be back soon.

Yeah that sucks about the European Championships and your long jumpers. I used to think that it would have been cool to have seen Morne Nagel compete in it years ago but off course he couldn't as well. Any news on Mitchell Watt and when he will return?

not sur eabout Mitchell at the moment. I couldn't find anything on him.

I see Chris Noffke got a legal 8.12 in that same comp as Fabrice's 8.40

Cáceres just took 2nd at the World Junior Championships. He had the lead going into the last round of jumps, but a South African jumped passed him for 1st place.
He responded well on his last jump - 7.90m - his best jump of the night, but still 9cm short of the gold.
But congratulations to him on a fine performance, and another white guy to be reckoned with in the LJ.

Greg Rutherford ran a 10.47 into a slight negative wind, earlier this week in England.
That's very good speed!

Great find jacknyc. He has really been battling injuries for two years now. Hopefully he can get back to form next year. Greg is only 22 years of age so he has time and he has the speed for sure. Very solid time for any sprinter let alone a long jumper into a negative wind.

Greg Rutherford ran a 10.26 (1.0w) in Australia.
He was the clear winner over Christian Malcolm and Nick Smith, who are 100m specialists.
I think he should switch events.
He has had some success in the LJ, but given that he hasn't trained to be a sprinter, his times are excellent.
I think he could be a serious contender for top UK sprinter.

He's still only 24 ..
Greg ran that 10.26 today actually, in the BUPA Manchester B race. It was a match up against Australia. That's some speed for a long jumper. The sprinters would have been dismayed!

Pity I couldn't find the wind reading. It was 3.2mps in the main event.(OK, just saw +1.0 in JACKNYC post... that's flying)

Here's the results of the meet
BUPA manchester street meet

It would have been even as a match up if odds on favourite Hooker hadn't no heighted in the PV. That's several times he's done that this year.Edited by: mastermulti

Greg Rutherford should give it a go for a complete season. Who knows how fast he could run. It would probably help him to stay healthy. Long Jumping can be hell on your body. Even more so than a sprinter. That 10.26 is just flat out flying!

Just to give some perspective on his time....Rutherford's 10.26 is faster than Christian Blum and Craig Pickering ran this year. And Rutherford isn't even a sprinter!

He reminds me of allan wells. Wells was a long jumper who started training as a sprinter at 24, and won the olympic gold medal in the 100m/silver in the 200m, at age 28, in 1980.

Wells then beat the 2 fastest american sprinters in philadelphia the next month.

Another great result from this wkend - Mitchell Watt of Australia jumped a world leading 8.44 (27ft 8-1/4inches) in Shanghai!
This guy will be a serious contender for the LJ Gold medal at the WC and the Olympics.

Greg Rutherford won the LJ at the Prefontaine meet - 8.32m/27ft 3.5in (2.1w)
White guys are really having a renaissance in the Long Jump.
Mitchell Watt, Greg Rutherford, Fabrice Lapierre, Christian Reif, Sebastian Beyer....all these guys are legitimate medal contenders, and there are several guys a notch below them.
White guys Can Jump! But we already knew that. :p
