white kickers/punters

Why is this exclusivly a white position? Is it because it seems to be a "nerdy" position, compared to running backs or recievers? Or is it because it requires less "athleticism", so to speak?

In 2002 there was another black punter drafted.Rodney Williams.He lasted about 2 years in NFL Europe and is now out of the league.

The Ravens are one of the more successful teams in the league. One of the reasons for their success is their kicking game. Kicker Justin Tucker and Punter Sam Koch have been good, reliable players for years. The media should give them more credit.

Justin Tucker set an NFL record 66 yard field goal to win a game against the Lions. Tucker is one of the best kickers in NFL history, maybe the best. A lot of the Ravens' success is due to him.

Tucker was a UDFA in 2012. If there was a redraft of the 2012 draft he would deserve to be drafted in the first round. Tucker deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Here's a video of Tucker's 66 yard kick. Incidentally, watch how at 1:01 the camera focuses on white, blond Alex Anzalone, as if he was at fault. While everyone was focusing on the kick the anti-whites were focusing on making white men look bad. Compare the mindset.

College punter Matt Araiza is a rare punter that might merit 1st round consideration in the NFL draft. He's averaging over 50 yards per punt for San Diego State (54.0).

He's also SD State's kicker and kickoff specialist.

Wasn't the last first round pick used on a kicker for the Fabulous Polak? It was always a joke in Chicago area sports blah, blah because one of the talking heads suggested the bears take Jano instead of Urlacher in the first.

I think you might be right. Janikowski was a first round pick in 2000.

IMO a top kicker or punter is worth a first round pick. If I could draft Justin Tucker or Johnny Hekker I'd be willing to spend a first on either one of those guys.

Justin Tucker has provided the Ravens with countless wins over the years that they otherwise would have lost with a league average kicker instead. The game this year against the Lions being the best example of all. The 1st round is littered with sumos on both sides of the line and cornerbacks every year. Many are either average or busts yet the media defends the GMs for repeating this pattern. If a team even drafts a kicker or punter these same talking heads have an aneurysm.

Well, here we are 9 years later. Anger is still in the league and has been a good punter for the teams he's been on. He was worth a 3rd round pick. The critics were wrong. The majority of players drafted in the 3rd round that year are out of the league.

I think teams are unfairly criticized for drafting kickers and punters because most of them are white.

The pick was attacked immediately after it was made, before Wilson ever played a down. After Wilson was successful the criticism was even worse.

Wilson is a pretty good QB but better for him what a lucky guy. IMO without Chompin Pete and his gameplan on how to bring Wilson along Wilson would have gone to the usual dimwitted coaches and just became another fail or labeled a backup for life.
