Get to know this name, Joe Vellano of the Maryland Terrapins recorded 20 tackles against Georgia Tech last week, wow!! :hail:

I mentioned this kid last year and he's another "undersized" white defensive tackle. He's 6'2 285 about the same size as another stud white defensive tackle Logan Harell.

Maryland defensive tackle Joe Vellano amply fills dad's cleats as second-generation Terrapin.

Despite being born without a left hand, University at Albany defensive lineman Eddie Delaney has caught the eye of pro scouts.

Logan Harrell had 4 solo tackles and a sack in Fresno's win over Utah State.

Graham Rowley, who missed BYUs game against SJSU, returned to the field against Oregon State and recorded 2 tackles. He's one of the few "bright" spots on the BYU d-line, so it's great to see him back.

Senior - Zach Masch - who has faced "Poly-favoritism" on Hawaii, is finally being allowed to show his talent through receiving more reps. He reportedly was in on 8 tackles against SJSU: http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/480934/zach-masch

(DE) Travis Johnson - of SJSU - recorded 2 sacks in that game.

Up: Boise State DE Shea McLellin
I had a chance to see McLellin live in the season-opener against Georgia and have watched more tape since then, and I continue to be impressed. He is a smart, instinctive player who shows a quick first step off the edge, and he uses his hands well as a pass-rusher. McLellin also flashes the ability to bend the edge on the pass rush. He also has a relentless motor and is constantly working to locate and get to the ball. McLellin didn't get a grade in our preseason evaluations, but he looks like a good fit as a 3-4 outside linebacker at the next level and could bring good value in the middle rounds.

DE-Jake Bequette(Sr.) was named Co-SEC D-Lineman of the Week...had a career-high 3 sacks (total -32 yards); 4 tackles & forced fumble at 1 that resulted in TD two plays later... in Arkansas 44-28 win over SoCarolina!

His coach does not use caste-speak; acknowleges his tremendous athletic ability; will be interesting to see what Round he land in NFL Draft!

Deadlift what do you think of Scott Solomon of Rice? He's 6'3 270 and has 8.5 sacks on the year as a Senior Redshirt.. Right now he's surprisingly leading draftdaddy's poll on the side of their page, as the nation's best pass rusher!

I haven't really watched Rice football in recent years. If I watch the "smaller" Texas programs, it's usually SMU and TCU.

I clicked on your link, and several of those affletes are overrated.. and aren't "fearsome" pass-rushers.

Arkansas senior defensive end Jake Bequette was the best player on the field for either team in Arkansas' win over Kansas State, 29-16. which is saying something, considering Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson (who i correctly said will make EVERYONE in Arkansas forget about Ryan Mallett *cough and pats self on back*) was also playing, as was K-State's impressively athletic Collin Klein.

Bequette, a 1st-Team All-SEC and Academic All-American honoree, finished the game with 2 sacks and a forced fumble (which set up an early go-ahead touchdown that Arkansas never relinquished), and, despite drawing nary a holding call, was the victim of more desperate grabbing than a gal at a junior high dance. his performance was so integral in Arkansas' pass rush that he couldn't even take a series off in the second half, as his absence was immediately noted by Klein (who promptly completed two long passes for first downs) and the commentators (who said, "Where's Bequette? Arkansas has to get him back out there." his presence on the field also drew repeated double teams, allowing the fat black slob/teammates (who are his figurative and literal athletic and masculine shadows) on the d-line to help Arkansas amass 7 total sacks.

for the season, Bequette finished with 10 sacks and 5 forced fumbles. with his incredible performance on and off the field, he personifies ALL that collegiate athletics should be about. sadly, too many "scholar"ships (sic) are given to "real" affletes to make that a true possibility ...

also deserving mention is Arkansas senior defensive tackle Zach Stadther, who played a terrific game despite being on the field for so few snaps. as both Riddlewire and i have repeatedly stated, Stadther has been Arkansas' best defensive tackle for years. but his career has been ruined by the usual suspects and enabled by the idiot DWFs and the conspiratorial media. any NFL team that takes a chance on either of these senior athletes will be making a BIG upgrade on their d-front.

*******************************

as i posted in the 2011 Bowl thread, SMU completely dominated their matchup with Pitt, and in no small part it was due to their two outstanding White defensive linemen.

1st-Team All-Conference USA defensive end Taylor Thompson (3 tackles, 1 sack, and 2 tackles-for-loss) and honorable mention all-conference defensive end, and two-sport athlete, Margus Hunt (5 tackles and 3 sacks!) led a defensive effort that shut down Pitt's offense, holding the Panthers to 10 total yards rushing, 193 yards passing, and amassing 7 sacks.

Southern Methodist junior defensive end Margus Hunt made Pitt pay for his cancelled trip home to Estonia

Brett Roy is identified by CBS as a "Diamond in the Rough". The author still fails to call Roy athletic..

DL/LB Brett Roy, Nevada: Roy played out of position for the Wolfpack, lining up at defensive tackle despite weighing in the 260-270 pound area throughout his career. He has a toned, well-distributed build that isn't going to be able to handle adding the 30+ pounds of "good" weight most teams require at defensive tackle in the NFL. He does, however, show the instincts, lateral agility, vision and open field tackling skills to potentially make the conversion to linebacker for 3-4 clubs. Roy plays to the whistle. I watched him pursue Boise State RB Doug Martin 50+ yards downfield, demonstrating the never-say-die mentality that could help him a roster spot and time to develop.

James Kittredge, of Michigan State (formerly of Vandy), may be another d-lineman to follow:

8. James Kettredge, Michigan State, DT: The Spartans defense once again should be pretty nasty, but they do have to replace Jerel Worthy on the inside of their line. Enter Kittredge, a 6-3, 285-pound former Vandy O-lineman from New Jersey, who created a lot of buzz inside the MSU program this spring.

"He's tough, has a great motor and is quick-twitch," said DC Pat Narduzzi.

[h=1]Terps' Vellano living up to legacy[/h] July, 3, 2012 Jul 3

By Heather Dinich | ESPN.com

Maryland defensive tackle Joe Vellano is a self-described “under-the-radar-kind-of-guy.â€￾

“I kind of liked it that way,â€￾ he said.

Those days are over.

[+] Enlarge
Cal Sport Media via AP ImagesJoe Vellano had 20 tackles during a loss to Georgia Tech last season.

The transformation from unknown to unstoppable occurred on Oct. 8, 2011, when Vellano shocked the college football world with a career-best 20 tackles in a 21-16 loss to Georgia Tech. It was the most tackles by any defensive lineman in the FBS.

“It was kind of crazy,â€￾ Vellano said. “The first drive, I picked up like three or four tackles, and I was like, four tackles on one drive? Then I kind of got a beat on their offense from watching a lot of film. My brother played the option when he was at Rhode Island. Watching them, you get a feel for what they like.â€￾

ACC offenses should now have a feel for Vellano, who enters 2012 as one of the league’s best linemen. Last year he finished third on the team with 94 tackles, had 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, four pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. It didn’t matter that Maryland was 2-10. It was clear that Vellano was a first-team all-conference player stuck on a sinking ship. This year, the hard-nosed tackle will move to end in the new 3-4 scheme. While his position will change, his work ethic and method of preparation will remain the same.

“I’m just trying to do my job the best I can,â€￾ he said. “I’m going out swinging at least.â€￾

It’s how he was raised.

Vellano’s dad, Paul, was a two-time All-ACC selection (1972-73) at defensive tackle for Maryland. They are the first father-son All-America combo at the same school in ACC history and one of four known in FBS. Vellano’s brother, Paul, played football at Rhode Island (2006-09) and has been a player-coach for the past three years for the Parma Panthers of the Italian Football League (if you haven’t read John Grisham’s “Playing for Pizza,â€￾ do it now).

Vellano said his father has played an integral role in his career.

“He wanted the best experience for us growing up,â€￾ he said. “My dad never told me I had to play football. He said, ‘If you like it, I’ll be happy to do everything I can to help you play,’ but he never pushed it on us. He comes to every game, he and my mom, and my brother. Not even just my immediate family, but my uncles, everyone tries to make every game. There’s a lot of support.â€￾

Vellano said his father was a major influence on his decision to attend Maryland. The building his father lived in is right next to the stadium. It was the first college football program he saw when he was younger, and it was a part of his life growing up. Despite the disaster that was Randy Edsall’s first season, Vellano said he has no regrets trying to follow in his father’s footsteps.

“Without a doubt,â€￾ he said. “I love both coaches and that’s out of my control really. Coach Friedgen, he’s the one who offered me a scholarship. I would never be here without that. And coach Edsall, nothing but the best for our team. It’s been good to have both coaches.â€￾

And it’s been just as good for Maryland to have both Vellanos.

This is a good thread we've tracked guys for a couple of years and most have found some success at next level. Anyway you can edit this thread Don to "white D-line over the years" or something to that effect? Or maybe make it even broader and we can include all defensive players to have somewhere to track their stats. Just a thought
