Ingemar Johansson KO's Floyd Paterson with "The Hammer of Thor" to win the heavyweight championship in 1959.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wn0YclbKR0

I don't think I've ever seen the fight Johansson won. ESPN shows old fights from time to time, and they show the two Patterson victories, but never the Johansson victory. Hmm. Wonder why.

The fight was as good as over with the first knockdown but Goldstein let the fight go on even after Patterson is walking away and doesn't know where he is. Patterson could have been killed, as Benny Paret was when the same Mr. Goldstein waited way too long to stop his fight with Emile Griffith.

In an era that the only black all time great Kickboxer (personal opinion, I actually like the man and I include him in my all time top 15 HW kickboxers, but he's just an exception to the rule in this sport) was considered unbeatable, a very underrated and unappreciated white champ, Croatian Branko CiKatic Knocked his lights out!

Yes, that was a terrible ref, and Paterson wasn't a bad sort either. They'd both be cruiserweights today, and Paterson would be light even for a cruiser.

Did you ever see the ESPN Classic version of Henry Cooper - Clay I where they spliced the tape and presented it as though nothing at all happened between the round that Cooper knocked Clay down and the next round? Not one single word about it! deliberate deception. Par for the course for the controlled media, and boxing is the least of it!

In an era that Jews commanded that only black men can fight for the title, while the few white contenders were some non athletic jokes from the US and UK (an Argentinian every now and then) who did not even learn the basics of the sport (Cooney and Quarry)...

Ah, Jerry Quarry was a terrific fighter. He could have been cruiserweight champ today, or champ in a division for guys around 200 - 215 or so which they still don't have, but badly need. And the other Gerry, Cooney, he should have been the heavyweight champ, and he could have been the champ, but he was so badly mismanaged, especially by himself.

With all respect but basic fighters like Quarry (great chin but that's it pretty much) and the joke named Cooney, would have been the bread and butter of the great Eastern European boxers who are coming from the great Olympic boxing programs of Eastern Europe which has been dominant at the Olympics for nearly 3 decades now.
Do you honestly believe that Quarry with his style could stand a chance against Lebedev? Let's be serious here. Maybe against Huck, but Masternak or Lebedev and some newcomers from the East like Rakhim Chakhkiyev would use Quarry like a living human punching bag.
As for Cooney against the modern Eastern European aces in the HW division, I won't discuss it my friend, I will take it like a joke ;)

Yes, we definitely disagree about Quarry and Cooney, Zeuss, and while we're on the subject of Gerry Cooney this video belongs on this thread!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Fb0Qidm9Fg

That fight retired Ken Norton, who had fought Clay-Ali three times, winning once and losing twice, all by very close decisions. Cooney had a left hook like a locomotive!

Ok let me explain cause I don't want to be misunderstood. I call Cooney a joke for one simple reason, the man admitted himself and If i am not mistaken even Don King said so in an interview, that he never learned the basics of the sport properly and most coaches would deny to train him well...........Obviously they didn't want a white American champ back then in boxing. So Cooney as he was, against the Klitschkos for example, would be nothing but a living human punching bag.............I deny to accept that a boxer who got destroyed by the overrated average joke named Larry Holmes would stand a chance against the Klitschkos, I mean come on, that's a blasphemy to the Klitschkos man!

Now if Cooney would have been trained properly, fought in a less anti-white and racist era, who knows, but still against Eastern European Boxing School, he would not stand any chance really. You don't lose during your prime from average fighters like Holmes and Spinks (good fighter but not a natural heavyweight boxer, let's be realistic) if you are so great. That's just my personal opinion!

You are using some revised history against former White boxers in a way similar to how it is used against them today. The state of Eastern European boxing was much more primative 40 years ago then what it is today.

Back then there were some good Russian Olympic boxers but they were 3 round fighters, no telling what would have happened if they had to fight the grueling 15 round matches of that era.

I'm sure they would have done okay after some time working under those conditions but to demean Cooney and Quarry by saying some imaginary boxers from Europe would have beaten them is like saying the best black heavyweights are all playing football and basketball.

Both Cooney and Quarry won some big fights, when you consider all of the odds against them, crooked managers, black supremicist judges, refs, and fans, Don King! and compare that to the Euro boxers who are well managed in supportive environments, I think you have to give some credit to those guys for even trying.

Where did I say that Cooney could beat the Klitschkos? I never said that.

Cooney could have and should have beaten Holmes. But he had only fought two rounds in the previous two years, and then, in an outdoor arena on an extremely hot night - temp. 90 not counting the tv lights - he tried to pace himself and box instead of going for the KO as he always did before. If he fought his usual fight and had gone for the KO he would have knocked out Holmes as he almost did anyway.

And here is Jerry Quarry fighting Ernie Shavers.

Before this fight Shavers was 33-0 with 32 KO's! Ultimately he had 69 KO's out of 75 wins.

Shavers lost a 15 round decision to Ali in 1977.

KO round one!

Don't try to put down Jerry Quarry.

Ok guys, I totally misunderstood the post of werewolf. I thought the man meant that if Cooney and Quarry fought today, they would both be world champions aka they would beat eastern Euros like Lebedev, Masternak, Klitschkos etc I really misunderstood while the man never said that. I do not disrespect Cooney or Quarry (actually Quarry is one of my favorite boxers) I just believe that if they were so great they would not lose from inferior blacks that our Eastern European brothers make them look silly for over 15 years now.

Guys, I am western European myself, I am not against Western Europeans, but when it comes to boxing, most of our peeps, especially Americans, have been nothing but pure disappointing chumps for the last 40-50 years. If it wasn't for our Eastern European brothers, boxing would still be a black dominated sports from middleweight up to Heavyweight and Cooneys, Quarrys etc would be nothing more than a few more white guys who never believed in themselves enough to become world champs!

I do not put these contenders down, reality is simple though, they both failed to become world champions because some average black dudes that every elite Eastern European would have smashed (they did at the Olympics again and again back then too) just did beat them.

Just because we have different views on something, it doesn't mean I disrespect Cooney or Quarry, it is what it is and those dudes will never go down as all time greats or even champs............Now from 1999 to 2012, Eastern Euros have produced for us 10 (or is it 11) world boxing champions in the HW division, more than Brits have done in 130 years of participation and just a little less than our white American brothers have done in the same amount of time....................I speak based on facts, if I am wrong, let me know but I guarantee you that in the next 10 years, Eastern Euros wwill have already produced as many HW champs as white Americans and Brits (regardless race) in 140 years of participation.

If some want to believe that Cooney could beat even someone like Maskaev or Valuev or Povetkin, go ahead, I believe they would all have fun smashing him though!

PS
Ask the average Jew boxing promoters ala Atlas or the average angry black boxing fan, who bothers and hurts their ego more? Valuev, Klitschkos, Povetkin who they call "bums" or "robotic Euros" or "not all time greats" who beat their black boxers silly and have carried the titles in the HW division for nearly 15 years now, or Cooney and Quarry who might call great or this and that, but deep inside they consider them inferior chumps who got owned from the "superior black brotha".

Guys, we see reality and things from a way different corner in many ways, not a bad thing, but it's a totally different view :)

I'm not knocking the Eastern Euro boxers, God bless 'em, but one of the reason they are so good is that communism turned White countries into such sh*t holes that getting ones head pounded seemed like a good career choice. Amerikwa has been so good about going into a huge sink hole of debt to feed and house negroes that even they are too fat and happy to do anything other then dribble and spike.

So yeah the Eastern Euros won the field by default in many ways. But their living standards are up now so it might change, but also living standards may go down in the west so who knows?

A bit off topic, but related to Jaxvid's post. I remember distinctely during Katrina and the days afterward. The thousands of poor negros wandering aimlessly on the street and wallowing in the water. Poor! how in the F**K do the poor become so friggining fat! I mean there were negresses in the 250 lbs range standing around 506. Amerika feeding negros with skittles by the pound and grape drank!

Back on topic. Jerry Quarry had a serious drinking problem that shorten and damaged his career. Also, compared to today's elite fighters, he had no clue of proper nutrition and conditioning. I suspect he ate bad as well. That was a great KO of a prime and dangerous Ernie Shavers. Hardly anyone who knows boxing talks about it. Maybe on purpose.

Great job by Quarry! Note the difference in fights in that era, see how long the ref's would let a guy take punishment. A fighter could be getting the crap kicked out of him and they would let it go until he was pounded into the ground (like Shavers was). That doesn't happen today, this same fight would have been called about a minute before it was. Think about how much of a difference that makes in a fight! All the extra damage a fighter took, also the opportunity to recover which is very difficult now.

Cautious fighting is rewarded today because any fighter that gambles and is stunned is in danger of getting called out prematurely. Best to dance, cover and clinch, or jab at a distance, to stay away from a staggering shot that would put a decision in the hands of the ref (a distinct disadvantage to White fighters).

I don't disagree with anything you've said but I will point out one HUGE difference--performance enhancing drugs!! Guys are super ripped now and it's not just steroids, HGH is almost impossible to detect and I bet the boxing commissions don't care about it either. Testosterone, blood doping, all that is probably done by every fighter. You can criticize guys from back in the day but the "drugs" they had access to were speed and steak to help them prepare.

Guys probably drank because they had to deal with the pain and stress of prize fighting. Not making excuses but that's how it was.

Great job by Quarry!...

What a sensational fight. Shavers - 33-0 with 32 KO's and he was bigger than Quarry. Was Quarry intimidated? Ha!!!

Here's the post fight. Gill Clancy was talking about how Foreman had been avoiding Quarry.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXcmdhiraL4

Some of the greats of boxing in there including Howard Cosell and Don Dunphy. Wasn't it nice how the announcers used to just talk about what was going on in the ring back then instead of rambling on with their idiotic personal opinions?

Somehow, though, the white guys back then always seemed to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory and lose the big ones. Jerry Quarry had "born to lose" tattooed on the knuckles of his hands, and so he was...but not that night!

Add:

Oops, I missed the second page - but Shavers had won 34 fights in a row prior to meeting Quarry, including KO wins over top guys like Jimmy Ellis and Jimmy Young, and won 33 of them by KO! He did lose to Ron Stander 3 1/2 years before, and before the Stander fight he had won another ten in a row, all by KO. he weighed 210, Quarry 202.

This one had great shock value when an unknown Gerrie Cotzee made his U.S. debut and dared to step in the ring with the fearsome destroyer Leon Spinks. Commenter Ken Norton is practically licking his chops and predicts the South African will be running for his life.

I'd weigh in on the side of culture over gene pool. The Western euros have the same ability level, but became soft and beaten down by their societies.

Because of their more difficult economic circumstances and lack of athletic caste, the Eastern euros present with the confidence and single mindedness necessary to become champions in boxing.

I remember reading the autobiography of Jake La Motta. It was on the topic of him fighting anyone. All around him were many hungry black competitors. He said, "but I was hungry too."

I disagree with Jake and YOU ;)

Jake was great but not as hungry as he claimed to be.

When the white man is equally hungry with the rest species of this planet, the result is always the same = The rest species get enslaved or conquered and if you or anyone has a problem with that statement, then you have a problem with historical facts ;)

Whites are superior, in every aspect, end of story...........So now show me your favorite KO of a white brother against an inferior race and stop the intellectual preaching to someone like me, you can't tell me nothing!!!!!!

Now Stick to the topic and bring me a KO video and prove your "love" and support to white athletes, cause if I judge from your other posts you sound like a Jew or a Negro who pretends to be a white man and wants to bring "logical" arguments in this forum.

And no, I am not political correct, neither I have the patience to debate with you when you have not prove s h i t to me about being pro white!

South Africa had top heavyweight contenders for years - Kallie Knoetze, always referred to on US ziovision as Kallie "former white policeman who killed a black child" Knoetze, Gerrie Coetzee, Corrie Sanders, Franz Botha. Here's Gerrie Coetzee's current website:

Ha ha, wallet sized pictures of Hitler. That's funny. Imagine a guy opening his wallet and showing you pictures of his kids and wife and then.....Adolph:shocked:

I wonder if that could get you kicked out of the Olympics??
