Wariner runs 44.43 in Warsaw. Wins with ease.
 
I doubt he'd like it, but I nominate Wariner for Caste Track athlete of the year. He's doing the impossible. He's gradually moving toward breaking the steroid world record with a non-steroidal body.

It would be like a thin young women gradually breaking Kratochvilova's record.

Other highlights included a blowout win by World champion Jeremy Wariner of the United States in the 400m, who looked relaxed every step of the way in slashing more than a second off the meet record and leaving his closest competitor more than a second behind him as well.

Wariner smashed the meet record with a 44.02 clocking, breaking LaShawn Merritt's 2006 meet record ( 45.10) by over a second. Second place went to Angelo Taylor in 45.03 and third to Canada's Tyler Christopher (45.20).

I look upon Jeremy Wariner in the same way that I look upon China's Liu Chiang -- a sensational talent and a smasher of baseless stereotypes.

In Beijing 2008 I look forward to both Wariner and Chiang to whip a lot of black a$$.

Has the forum gone from a "celebrate white athletes" forum to a "celebrate anyone that isnt black" forum?
 
Nothing wrong with yanling supporting a Chinese track star, imo. I'll root for Chiang over all the black track stars he'll be running against, too.
 
different people on this site can cheer for who ever they want to. some people cheer for only white athlets, others cheer for people who have to fight sterotypes in sports. Asians are veiwed as even worse athlets than whites. So an asin athlete has to battle the same if not worse sterotypes than whites. Thats why I cheer for asin athlets they have two fight the same fight as us.

By the way Yanling is asian so Id certanly hope he is cheering for Liu Chiang Edited by: white tornado

I have seen Tiger Woods referred as an "Asian" on another thread.

Do people on the board root for him?

What about the Asian golfers on the womens tour? Wie? Some of the Korean golfers?
 
If Tiger Woods was considered Asian by the media rather than "black," many of usprobably would root more for him, simply because in that case he would get media hype commensurate with what he deserves instead of the beyond absurd worshiping that goes on now. Tiger's pretty much a good guy and obviously an all-time great golfer, but the media makes it very difficult to root for him because it goes overboard by a factor of 10 or more when it comes to covering him.
 
I dont think the media goes that overboard In the case of Tiger compaired to the way it treats other black athletes.
 
The problem with rooting for the 'Asian' Tiger Woods, and Wie especially, is the inordinate amount of favorable press they receive that is incommensurate with their actual abilities. Yes, I know Tiger is one of the greatest golfers to ever play the game, but the amount of love and promotion given him by the media is out of proportion with even his greatness. That's really one of the few things I don't like about Woods: this ungodly, gushing love affair the media has with him. Compare the way Woods is treated to Annika Sorenstam and you'll see what I mean.

Most of the Asians who play professional sports do not show boat, act like wiggers, brag, commit crimes, or complain about how unfairly they are treated, unlike blacks, who complain incessantly despite being given every opportunity to succeed - and then some. Therefore, I find it very easy to root for Asians vis a vis black athletes. Why is this so hard to understand? Edited by: White Shogun
 
Good points by all of you. Back to the subject at hand. I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed Poachers article on Wariner on the front page. Excellent work overall and a great job of pointing out the obvious stereotypes that white athletes/sprinters have to fight. Wariner is as big a star in Track and Field as you will find. He is a class act and is as dominant on the track as Federer is on the Tennis Courts. Let's hope that Jeremy can break the world record next year.
 
Excellent article about Jeremey Warnier by Poacher. As a true superstar of track & field he should be getting more "ink" in the sports magazines than he does. I hope he wins the 2008 Olympic championship and sets the world record. I can't wait to read the articles about him after that. I'm still pissed-off that SI did not even mention his name in the article about the World Championships while having a picture of Angelo Taylor handing off to LaShawn Merritt in the article. But, all Wariner did was run 43.45 to win the 400m. and run a 42.9 relay leg.

I'd been wanting to do an article on him for awhile. With the track season over it seemed like a good time.

Can't wait for the '08 outdoor season and the Olympics.
 
Wariner and his coach, Clyde Hart, who also coached Michael Johnson, have split.
Coach Hart has been JW's coach since college ...basically, he's been his only coach.
I think this is terrible news, and could hurt Wariner for this year's Olympics.
 
I agree. Coach Hart is the premier 400 meters Coach in the history of the United States. No one has the depth of knowledge that he does. I wonder if Coach Hart is just deciding to retire? I wanted to see Wariner and his Coach pull off the rare double gold in the same even in the olympics and break the world record while doing so. My best wishes to the both of them.
 
this blows! i doubt hart would retire before the olympics. sounds like a falling out. wariner better not f this up.
 
There was a small article about it in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette this morning (since Hart is from AR). He wanted more money than Wariner was willing to give. So they split.
 
What I read is that Wariner wanted to cut his pay, and so he said 'no thanks'.

I think it a bit arrogant on Wariners part and I really hope this doesn't hurt his career. I would also love to hear Michael Johnson has to say about this.

They do not even appear to register on the radar of the pre Beijing sports media. I have seen stories about less important athletes in gymnastics and other minor sports, but almost no stories about Wariner, Gay, Carter, Webb, or any jumpers or throwers.

You can pick up some Eurosport T&F telecasts at channelsurfing.net. It's always going to be more popular in Europe. Americans have too many sports to keep track of as is.
