I think the only type of player who can come out of the closet and be the first openly gay player will be a star prospect or a player who transcends the game like Peyton Manning or Adrien Peterson(before the knee injury). Otherwise it won't happen to a 3rd string tailback or punter. It's too easy to cut that class of player and management can argue that they felt other players were more valuable to the team. Granted the media exposure and pressure from the media would be huge on any gm that had the first openly gay player so a Wade Davis type could be a make a roster as form of ethnic pandering.

I've never considered the Matthews clan as personifying anything other than being tough as nails. Clay Sr. played 20 years in the NFL, Bruce played almost as long, and Clay Jr. has certainly made his mark as a great defensive player in a league that prefers almost all of its defensive stars to be Magical Negroes.

A year ago I did a google search thinking that he would have been surrounded by tail (female) and was curious what he could land, and I came up with zilch. I honestly don't care all that much, and as I said I cannot condone it much less understand it, but I'm not going to torture someone because of their natural cross wiring.

"Gay bashing" is reactionary and reactionary first starts out as the morally superior position but over time for right or wrong it starts to look childish.

So my point was that it was pretty easy to find a picture of him standing next to a girl. There were other pictures and I picked that one. I agree it's an awards show and that is not a girlfriend.

The was other information that mentioned a girlfriend--and that she was black. So whatever. I agree with what you are saying though, it may be that he doesn't like to cat around and so unlike nearly everybody his age there are not thousands of pictures of him posing with duckface chicks. Or it may be that he is gay. I cannot say. I agree with your take on that issue as well. Hopefully not, but it doesn't make a difference to his caste-busting play on the field.

Before any gay NFL player comes out of the closet, he needs to have some sense of what will happen when he does.

If he’s a member of the Texans, he has a strong supporter in linebacker Connor Barwin.
Barwin, who has an openly gay brother, tells Outsports.com that the process of a player coming out may not be as difficult as believed, although at first it could be a challenge.

IMO, Clay Matthews should not be accused of being gay unless you have explicit photos.

You are quite right sir. But give me weasel wording brownie points, I never explicitly said he was a homo. I'm simply saying it is possible that otherwise tough football playing white men might have crossed wires.
