Thanks Lost, in the midst of downing my 4th beer before I hit the rack. I wish Vitali would have blasted out this affelet though, I would have a better sense of urgency to watch. But as always Glad Vitali got the win and look forward to 2010 where the brothers K continue to whip affelet ass!!!

Wlad tried to move him away from vitali ( gently) after the fight, johnson turned around and gave wlad a tiny push, wlad raised his hands and probably said " relax". That was about it.

TO BART!!!! What fight were u watching? Vitali was as good as ever tonight. So what if he didn't knock Johnson out. He was extremely dominant every round,

I just re-watched the fight.

Yes, I think Vitali looked fine - he threw over 1000 punches, an amazing workrate for a 6'7" heavyweight. He landed over 50% of his power punches, although he missed more often with his jabs. He showed great stamina, throwing more punches in the 11th and 12th rounds.

Kevin Johnson was just there to survive the 12 rounds and pick up a paycheque. He fought every round like he was afraid to open up and engage. Vitali did as well as could be expected against a fighter who was 100% focused on defense, and wasn't really trying to win.
I agree if he looked flat it was because Johnson was barely fighting. I might have docked points from Johnson for not fighting. He was constantly leaning away and not throwing anything back. I guess because he wasn't clutching Vitali he wasn't clearly breaking the rules like Akinwande did against Lewis, but he was in the same survivor/sparring partner mode. Now we know why he was wearing sun glasses through out the promo, it's either that or he would have needed Depends before the stare downs.......

The fight was not very good. Johnson was mainly at fault he did nothing but stay in a shell and try not to get KO'ed. However fighting is show business and these kind of lathargic victoryies by Vitali give more ammo to the people that say the current heavy's are boring. This fight WAS boring. Vitali needed to go for it and try to KO this mugging clown instead of keeping his distance and pecking away. Yes he won but if he's not going to beat down inferior fighters like this, what's the point?

Odlanier Solis called out Klitschko. I can't wait for this great black dope to be defeated. Also in the link I provided Adam Booth(Haye's trainer) says he knows how to beat klitschko. I've heard that from all of the guys he has fought.

I have never seen a heavyweight boxer looking as scared as Johnson did in that fight. He actually looked frightened and was ducking and twitching every time Vitali so much as looked at him. Plus when things got awkward he turned his head away and complained about being hit in the back on the head. It was a pathetic performance from someone with such a big mouth. If I was a black American I would be extremely embarrassed. The most agression he showed was after the final bell when he knew Vitali was not allowed to hit him any more.
One question - who is the clown of a judge that actually decided that Johnson won a round? No way. Johnson showed some good defensive skills but I think he landed about fifteen punches in the twelve rounds.

Johnson landed only 5 power punches the entire fight, according to HBO's punchstats.

Here's an top quality video of the fight for download, Sky Sports version with Vitali's spectacular entrance:

Klitschko-Johnson

The video plays in Windows Media Player, and looks best in 1) Windows Media Player Classic Home Cinema, 2) VLC Player or 3) KMPlayer. I recommend downloading one of the latter three.

I didn't notice this until now but Vitali set the record for most punches thrown by a heavyweight.

V Klitschko-vs-Johnson - 1013 punches thrown by Vitali
Ibeabuchi-vs-Tua - 975 punches thrown by Ibeabuchi
Povetkin-vs-Chambers - 929 punches thrown by Povetkin

Amazing workrate for a 38 year old 6'7" 250lb heavyweight

The winner of the Ray Austin-vs-Odlanier Solis match will likely be Vitali's next opponent.

Vitali landed almost 5 times as many punches as Johnson did!! Is that dominant or what? His connect percentage was low though at only 29 %. Johnson was on the defensive the whole night so he was hard to hit.

99.9% chance that ODLAINER SOLIS will be Vitali's next opponent. He's a 6'2 Cuban who was a GOLD MEDALIST in the 2004 Athens Olympics. David Gaye should be in line though somewhere in the 2nd half of 2010.
If solis get's in the ring with austin it will be the first halfway good fighter boxed! And after austin lost to wald so fast i dont even know about him...Edited by: lost

Found out who dozed off during the fight.
Italian Judge Guido Cavalleri scored the fight 119-109!

At least Johnson will be able to tell his grand-kids, OK I lost all 12 rounds against the great Vitali Klitschko, but one round I lost only on a majority decision!

There are so many good white heavyweights and the Klitschko's constantly have to fight blacks. What is up with that? White fighters like Boystov, Ustinov,</span>Dettweiller, and Meehan should be getting title shots.

While I do agree that Juan Carlos Gomez was a good opponent Johnson was more a joke. Next Vitali will probably fight Solis who has done nothing so far.

That about sums it up. This Johnson was shrinking away like he'd been plunged in ice water.

Then as soon as the fight is over he wants to fight.

By the way, it seemed a lot of the commentary was focused on how good or not good Klitchko really is. Ali had some of stinkers. Tyson too. Times when other fighters (Bonecrusher Smith and Mitch Green come to mind among other) made bad ass Tyson look absolutely lost and ineffectual. But I don't remember the commentators having a running debate about his abilities, this lingering suspicion hanging in the air such as we see whenever a Klitchko fights.

Oh well. There's always the mute button.

I found this comment from Kevin Johnson.

"For the entire 20th century there wasn't a bigger prize in all of
sports than being the heavyweight champion of the world. Since the
Europeans took over the heavyweight division, boxing lost some of its
appeal," Johnson said. "The average American walking down the street
couldn't tell you who the champ is. When I think of great fighters, I
think of Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes and Mike
Tyson. When these guys were champs, they were icons in this great
nation.

Well, some fighters made a name for themselves with courageous challenges for the heavyweight title where they gave their all and fell short, but the the sport was uplifted. Billy Conn, Karl Mildenburger, Tommy Farr. Georges Carpentier, Vitali Klitchko against Lennox Lewis, among others.

This fat turd Johnson will go down as one of the sorriest heavyweight "challengers" ever to disgrace themselves in the ring.

Read a bull--it article today online. It mentioned how Vitali is much slower than he was 5 years ago and that David Haye should beat him with ease. It also mentioned how Johnson was able to land some jabs on Vitali. Yeah ok!

What Haye can do is buy time at this point. Vitali is already 38 so he could stall for a year or two. I think that's exactly what he is trying to do. I wish Vitali didn't have those injuries and didn't have to retire for 4 years. Those were his prime years.

People just seem to refuse to acknowledge how hard it is to come back after being out of boxing for 4 years and winning the title. Tyson came out of prison and back into boxing at the age of 29. He was still young and he just sucked at that point.

Guys he is 38 years old and taking on all comers and dominating them. Even Foreman carefully chose his opponents and only faced non punchers or people with weak chins. Nobody else has even been close to this level at this advanced age. Any criticism of Vitali has an agenda. If Mills Lane was officiating this fight he might have ran Johnson for non effort, that's how bad an effort Johnson put up.

I noticed on that list of iconic champions that Mr.numb-nuts spoke of he failed to mention fighters like Dempsey and Marciano. What to make of this slight ommision?

We better watch out though guys. Adam Booth says he knows how to beat the Klitschko's. Has that prick every been in the ring with the Klitschko's to know this? No he hasn't. He promised Haye would knock Valuev out and all Haye did was run for 12 rounds. What a joke. I had Haye landing only a few punches per round. Haye is truly a coward and Adam Booth is a piece of s--t. I'd like to see him get in the ring with one of the Klitschko's. His mouth would shut real quick. Ohh yea by the way, the past 10 fighters the Klitschko's faced all said that they know how to beat them. First they need to concentrate on winning at least one round the whole fight.
