Yes, but remember that back when that ad was published, a high percentage of the league was comprised of white players.

the other thing about these items (like the cited bedsheets/drapes), is they were relatively unique in that era.
Outside of the major department store catalogs, people didn't have much selection in terms of league licensed merchandise. There weren't the jersey & sports gear superstores that populate every mall now (that carry every jersey & flag, etc).. You could find some regional team stuff in regional department stores, gas station mini-marts etc.. but if you were an Eagles fan living in Texas looking for some Eagles gear, outside of the Sears catalog, u were f*cked...

I don't think it was a full-on DWF culture yet.. it was more like kids subtly representing their teams/interests.. The dopes & wiggers walking around in a different team's, oversized jersey everyday really jumped off in the late 80s. It was around the same time every wanna-be wore a Raiders hat.. & the Falcons and LA Kings went to black in their color schemes to sell more jerseys to gang-bangers and their imitators..

I'm not an expert on the origins of the infantile DWF obsession with wearing jerseys and caps, but as best I recall the rise of it, it correlated with the rise of rap culture, and then was aped by Whites of all ages, including middle-aged and older White "men." Seemed like the White Sox cap and jersey was huge for a while in the early years.

At any rate, when Barry Sanders was introduced by Goodell tonight to give the Lions pick, as the crowd was cheering a shot was shown of a DWF in the Lions cheering section wearing a Sanders jersey. Fifteen years after Sanders last carried a football, this diehard fool was still sporting his idol's jersey.

This really brings back some nice memories. I started following football and sports in general in the mid-to-late 70s and I can remember all these old uniforms. I would have loved to have had these as a kid. Race and the caste system were the furthest things from my mind back in my almost all-white New England town. I knew all the players and the records of each team, collected baseball and football cards and played football, baseball, basketball ...etc with friends after school (something I almost never see kids do now). And yes, there were tons of whites to cheer for back then. Better days, indeed!

Even though I wasn't a Tampa fan, their old orange gear always stood out to me, even today. I doubt they sold many of those Bucs winter gloves tho'..

these were cool,.. I remember 'em getting handed out for Halloween too.
The artist made a mistake in the packaging artwork {on the Cards helmet, never remember any stripes (?)}

Nice memories of better times. They even have a white man on the package!

Yeah, early 80s were good times & that sounds right.. especially w/the package verbiage, '14 AFC teams'. It would've been pre-Jags, Ravens, & Texans (?)
I also remember selective use of these pencils.. Cowboys were my give-aways, or were turned to mulch... speakin' of Cowboys, in the packaging, it looks like the Dallas guys are playing in long-johns ~

Some good memories of my schoolboy days here. I had a pencil box (circa 1980-82?) with all the NFL team helmets on it. I had a pack of those pencils (above...cept NFC) to go with it. ;-)
