the other thing about these items (like the cited bedsheets/drapes), is they were relatively unique in that era.
Outside of the major department store catalogs, people didn't have much selection in terms of league licensed merchandise. There weren't the jersey & sports gear superstores that populate every mall now (that carry every jersey & flag, etc).. You could find some regional team stuff in regional department stores, gas station mini-marts etc.. but if you were an Eagles fan living in Texas looking for some Eagles gear, outside of the Sears catalog, u were f*cked...
I don't think it was a full-on DWF culture yet.. it was more like kids subtly representing their teams/interests.. The dopes & wiggers walking around in a different team's, oversized jersey everyday really jumped off in the late 80s. It was around the same time every wanna-be wore a Raiders hat.. & the Falcons and LA Kings went to black in their color schemes to sell more jerseys to gang-bangers and their imitators..
