Jewish power dominates at 'Vanity Fair'

It's a list of "the world's most powerful people," 100 of the bankers and
media moguls, publishers and image makers who shape the lives of
billions. It's an exclusive, insular club, one whose influence stretches
around the globe but is concentrated strategically in the highest corridors
of power.

More than half its members, at least by one count, are Jewish.

It's a list, in other words, that would have made earlier generations of
Jews jump out of their skins, calling attention, as it does, to their
disproportionate influence in finance and the media. Making matters
worse, in the eyes of many, would no doubt be the identity of the group
behind the list - not a pack of fringe anti-Semites but one of the most
mainstream, glamorous publications on the newsstands.

Yet the list doesn't appear to have generated concern so far, instead
drawing expressions of satisfaction and pride from the lone Jewish
commentator who's responded in writing.

Published between ads for Chanel and Prada, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent,
it's the 2007 version of "The Vanity Fair 100," the glossy American
magazine's annual October ranking of the planet's most important
people. Populated by a Cohen and a Rothschild, a Bloomberg and a
Perelman, the list would seem to conform to all the traditional
stereotypes about areas of Jewish overrepresentation.

Joseph Aaron, the editor of The Chicago Jewish News, thinks it's a list his
readers should "feel very, very good about."

"Talk about us being accepted into this society, talk about us having
power in this society," Aaron wrote this week, in apparent reference to
Jewish life in the United States. "Talk about anti-Semitism being a thing of
the past, talk about Jews no longer needing to be afraid to be visible and
influential."

Printed over 15 pages before an interview with Nicole Kidman, the
rankings - described on the magazine's cover as the membership of "The
New Establishment" - are less than scientific, accompanied by a
paragraph-long introduction that neither defines power nor describes the
methodology behind the list.

Topping the rankings for the second year in a row is gentile media mogul
Rupert Murdoch, who's followed in second place by Steve Jobs, the non-
Jewish co-founder of Apple and Pixar.

Highest among the Jewish entries are Google co-founders Sergey Brin and
Larry Page, co-listed at #3, down one from 2006. The article reported
that the 34-year-old Brin and his wife "wore swimsuits as they stood
under the huppa." (Page, whose mother is Jewish, was described in the
spring 2006 edition of B'nai B'rith Magazine as "raised more in the mold
of his father... whose religion was technology.")

With Americans making up the vast majority of the list, the Vanity Fair
100 is also notable for some absences. Just nine of those included are
women, and only two - TV host Oprah Winfrey and rapper Jay-Z - are of
African ancestry.

It's the magazine's readers, however, and not Vanity Fair itself, who are
keeping track of New Establishment members' gender, race and ethnicity.
Though the writers often include telling details about their subjects -
such as that the original last name of #89, comedian Jon Stewart, was
Leibowitz - it's up to amateur demographers to track their origins.

The approach hasn't attracted much attention this year, but set off a
Hollywood firestorm in 1994 when a reporter for England's Spectator
used that year's New Establishment as inspiration for his own article, in
which critics accused him of perpetrating harmful stereotypes about
Jewish control of the movie industry. (The writer, William Cash, argued
that the piece was partly meant to call attention to the contrast between
the traditional, white Protestant "establishment," and the
disproportionally Jewish new version.) Considerations of background
don't figure in the Vanity Fair "Establishment," but neither, it seems, do
traditional definitions of "power" as political.

Besides New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg at #9, up 25 places from a
year ago, just two elected officials - former US president Bill Clinton and
former vice president Al Gore - appear on the list. Ranked at #6 and #19,
respectively, the latter two are cited for their work after leaving office, not
for the power they exerted through politics.

The magazine's limited definition of power, then, constitutes areas in
which Jews have long excelled, often by necessity, says Ruth Wisse, a
professor of Yiddish and comparative literature at Harvard University.

In her most recent book, Jews and Power, Wisse accounts "for the
achievement of Jews through the centuries," describing it, she says, "as a
consequence of their having to develop their powers of adaptation to an
extraordinary degree."

But while they've excelled disproportionately in areas such as business
and medicine, they've often also limited themselves - or been limited to -
fields not connected to the public exercise of power.

With the Vanity Fair rankings' focus on leaders outside the public sphere,
they may coincidentally mirror traditional Jewish patterns of achievement
- and a traditional Jewish aversion to political power.

For Aaron, the list shows how "vital" Jews have become in American life.
The Vanity Fair rankings, he writes, "[tell] you so much about the place of
Jews in this country, about the amazing people Jews are."

Does anyone else think the "jewish control" of this country will backfire on them eventually? Imagine word gets out that the Isreal lobby was behind the war in Iraq, and wants to attack Iran and Syria with our children? That our leaders sold us out over money for another countries interests? (isn't this treason?)

It will be especially bad for the Zionists when America starts to show it's impending bankruptcy more. Imagine angry poor whites reading that list, all the while reading Jews bragging about thier "dominance" of our country.

As for thier "adaptation" over history, what we really need is a book that details why they always get kicked out of a country they inhabit, and not in a friendly manner, ie Russia, Germany. Could it be thier penchant for unfair mercantilism and usury? I'm not allowed to say, it's considered anti-semitism to discuss reality.

I disagree. The Talmud makes statements along this line. Not all jews follow this, but the ones in power seem to constantly be working to eliminate any gentile owned businesses, and they work together to accomplish it, often in a very unfair manner. When you have a word in jewish culture to describe jews (goyim) and non-jews (gentile) there isn't much you can argue.

I respectfully disagree. Everybody uses words to differentiate ourselves along racial, gender, religion and class lines. We do that quite often here at Caste Football. I think most of the time it's a good thing and not a bad thing.

With respect to your opinion that my statement makes me look foolish, I stand by my own views based on my own experience (hence, the "I believe" preface to my original statement).

I live in West Los Angeles which has a large population of orthodox Jewish people, and as an Asian American I get negative vibes from them when I enter their stores or other businesses. My wife (also asian) tells me she gets the same vibes.

I have been called the most blatantly racist names (chink, *******, slank, dink, slope, you name it) by people wearing yarmulkes. a lot older than me. People who ought to know better.

They'll take our money, sure, but they aren't polite or pleasant to us no matter how nice we are to them.

There are some who are really cool to me, but on the whole, the impression I get from them is overwhelmingly negative. Hence the "blanket statement" as you put it. Nothing of course is 100% but then again most blankets have pores.

It's a shame, but that's life.

yanling, you are dead on right about jewish attitudes toward other peoples (cattle, to them), the facts support you and most people here agree, guest301 is the boards resident zionist and would of course disagree, but at least he is not threatening to sick any jewish attack group on you like the ACLU or SPLC

When it comes to making statements about different racial groups, much of what we have to go on is our own experiences and those of the people we know. I take that into consideration when I hear people make statements about racial groups as a whole. I'm sure a ton of people think I'm horrible for having the opinions I do about blacks, but I won't apologize for it. Nearly all of the blacks I have been around treat me and everything else like crap and that has a lot to do with how I think about them as a group.

I wish more whites thought of themselves as a collective like blacks and others do. If we did, so much societal crap would be done away with.

More and more it is coming out into the open as to just how powerful Jews are...and people are openly talking about it...that's encouraging.

First there was the controversy over Gibson's "the Passion"

Then the Walt/Mearsheimer report on AIPAC...

Now this...

Keep it up...keep exposing what's going on...fight back against those who stolen our country...and who knows?...soon we may have an America run by...Americans!

We need to keep exposing the influence of the jew, in my opinion. Communism, feminism, "civil rights," pornography...do some research on who creates and controls these plagues on society and you keep running into the jew over and over again. It's a little hard to believe that this is some huge coincidence.

I disagree also. The ADL, although an international organization, spends no time with diversity and tolerance in the segregated state of Israel. The ACLU and Southern Poverty Law Center are littered with Jews who do the same. Not all Jews, of course, but many in powerful positions.

Former leader of the Christian Coalition Ralph Reed said yesterday that Christians need a version of the ADL to defend their rights and way of life. I think white people in general could use a organization like that. I am certainly no fan ove the ACLU or the SPLC still being run by that idiot Morris Dees.

Quote from Abe Foxman of the ADL:
Let's be honest. We are losing the battle of Jewish identity. Intermarriage is growing. There is a lot of ignorance. Two generations of Jews in America have passed without their being taught to be Jews. When tikkun olam, "repairing the world," becomes the Jewish model instead of Im ein ani li, mi li?" "If I am not for myself, then who is for me?" then tikkun olam focuses on everybody else but me. http://www.adl.org/ADL_Opinions/Israel/JewishWeek_030405.htm Replace the word Jewish with the word White in the above quote by Foxman and all he11 would break loose. That person would be branded a racist for life.

Good article. Here's another paragraph that shows how the ADL doesn't want "diversity" when talking about Jews.

"Still, these efforts have not addressed the dual challenge facing American Jewry: how to turn around the continuing diminution of the community through assimilation and intermarriage, and how to provide funding for Jewish education, the prime vehicle for re-establishing a strong Jewish identity. "

The ADL introduces diversity programs to American Public Schools all around the country. But, apparently "intermarriage" and "assimilation" are frowned upon only when it comes to the Chosen.

Later in the article he actually brags about turning American Jewish children into Zionists. If a gentile calls a Jew a Zionist the ADL would put him on a watch list.
