US Open -2013

The draw has been made for the 2013 US Open.

If the top seeds make the quarter finals here's how it will look:

Djokovic v Del Potro
Murray v Berdych

The winner of each would play in SF. So whoever gets through this part of the draw could be worn out by the time they make the final.

The other half would be:
Nadal v Federer
Ferrer v Gasquet

Advantage Nadal! He and Federer have never met at the US Open. It's hard to see Federer beating Nadal in a best of five match at this point in his career unless the Spaniard has an injury issue. Neither Ferrer nor Gasquet are a threat.

Djokovic has the worst draw of all. He'll also have to beat Grigor Dimitrov in the third round.

The top black tennis player, Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, is out due to injury. Gael Monfils could meet John Isner in the second round.

On the women's side Williams and Azarenka are in separate halves of the draw so if each wins they'll play in the final. Sharapova has dropped out.

Poor Ryan Harrison draws Nadal in the first round. American Harrison will likely not be a top player; he lacks the big time weapons needed to hurt the best. It would be nice to see some more comfortable early rounds for the young man in these tournys. Another American, Jack Sock, has yet to establish himself. I’m not sure if he has been impeded by injuries or he’s been an all-around disappointment. He does have a match in the first round with a qualifier.

The US Open is not a day old and already they've got a minor scheduling problem due to rain - and a long opening ceremony (Lenny Kravitz, BJ King:angry - so Federer likely won't get playing until Tuesday which puts him a day behind Nadal, his possible QF opponent already. No tournament messes up scheduling more than the US Open, and not just because of rain. Murray isn't scheduled to play his match until Wednesday night, and that's if there isn't a weather problem. In past years players have gone into the SF or Final with a day sometimes two days less rest than their opponents.

The USTA recently announced plans for a roof over Arthur Ashe stadium, but it's years too late and still many years away from being built. Even that was due to being shamed into it by Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

Anyway, Nadal through in straight sets and Serena humiliated poor Schiavone 60 61.

The Haitian-American defeated former champ Sam Stosur of Australia to the cheers of the crowd. I even saw a uniformed USTA employee (black) applauding one of her winning shots. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Also at this year's US Open ESPN is laying it on thick with the BJ King references and on one occasion Pam shriver saying "Thank God for Title IX".

As for the men's tennis the supposed up and comers Grigor Dimitrov and Jerzy Janowicz were eliminated in the first round along with the highest ranked non-white player at the tournament, Nishikori of Japan.

Yes, I saw that. Another young, up-and-coming American tennis player, who happens to be black. I wonder what American whites are playing these days? They have been ethnically cleansed from basketball and football, organizations like USA Soccer and US Track & Field are doing their best to keep those sports as vibrant as possible, Asian females have taken over golf, that worthless league the WNBA is a mirror of the NBA, so what are White American males and females doing these days? Since outside of US, tennis is a 99% white sport, whites elsewhere are obviously heavily involved in it.

Considering that tennis is an upper-middle class sport to begin with, and all those other factors I just mentioned, you would think whites in America would flock to it. Yet, all I see is mostly blacks, and the few whites who are playing are not even remotely elite.

BSPN really lived down do its nickname yesterday with non-stop MLK talk - even when interviewing players on the court - an Arthur Ashe documentary, ex-NY Mayor Dinkins saying things aren't as good as they could be for his people, and a parade of black players - though two of them, Venus and James Blake, damaged the script by losing. And it was a white woman, Pam Shriver, who was the worst of them all.

Victoria Duval, whom Mayor Dinkins said was "so cute", plays later against Daniela Hantuchova, who is more than cute:grin: but sadly well past her prime.

DWF fever breaking out at Flushing Meadows

After losing the first two sets to American John Isner black Frenchman Gael Monfils won the third set to the delight of the New York crowd. Isner decided to take a bathroom break and was looking pretty angry at his countrymen. Chris Fowler said he couldn't remember ever seeing a crowd cheer against their own #1 ranked player like this on home soil. Darren Cahill said something similar - I think he used the word "staggering". Brad Gilbert also expressed shock at just how much in favour of Monfils saying it is not as if Isner did anything wrong or obnoxious to annoy them. A substantial proportion of them have also been chanting "Mon-fees, Mon-fees". We'll see what happens in the fourth set.

BTW Haitian-American Victoria Duval was defeated by Hantuchova.

Oh today it's Northern Europeans.....yesterday was all about Anglo-Saxons, two days ago about Western Europeans, a month ago against American and Brits blah blah blah! Denial is a b i t c h yeah! A thread with a Zeus post is one marked by a swift decline in civility and useful information and opinions.

A few weeks back, Zeus posted something around 10:00 AM (supposedly from a computer in Athens, Greece) and wrote something like “alright, my lunch break is over, time to get back to paperwork.” I believe that Greece is some 7 hours ahead of the Eastern Time Zone, which would have meant that he was eating lunch at 5 PM. I’m not inferring that he’s lying about his location, just thought it was interesting.

Unlike some of his previous adventures at CF, his latest “incarnation” wasn’t entertaining or humorous in the least. Nearly every single word he composed pertained to nothing related to athletics and centered almost entirely on insulting (physically, mentally, politically, even sexually) American/British/Northern European whites.

He’ll be back.

Tommy Robredo dispatched Roger Federer is straight sets. Perhaps it is just as well we won't get to see Fed v Nadal at the US Open as it probably would've been very one-sided. Federer played one of the worst matches I've seen him play on hard court. It is really difficult to see him winning another major.
