Looking forward to that free ppv. I imagine Bisping will get a big crowd reaction in Manchester.

I noticed that little cunundrum after I posted it. I thought I would leave it up there anyway.

That's how the UFC looks at it, it's a giveaway ppv.

Junior Assuncao fights out of the KnuckleUp camp here in metro Atlanta. I've trained with some of his team mates & they say he's a total stud. He lost his first UFC bout (having taken the fight on short notice). I was hoping they'd televise that one to see how the local boy does.

Why are they feeding CroCop the can?

Good question.

Rampage had one fight and fights for the title.

Randy came out of retirement and fought Tim Sylvia for the belt, without a single warm up fight.

Anderson Silva got one warm up fight before facing Franklin.

So yeah.. why does Cro Cop get two cans in a row?

Just protecting their investment although he doesn't need the protection. Maybe they are building up CroCop's reputation for the UFC fans who may not watch any other MMA but the UFC.

Cro Cop is way more famous than either Anderson Silva or Rampage... wait a second! Both those guys are black! Wonder if that had anything to do with it? Maybe they didn't want to be accused of keeping a brother down or something? LOL You can almost hear people saying that the UFC didn't want to have Chuck or Franklin face either of them because the UFC knew their boy would get KTFO, or similar garbage.

It's funny how even when we may not think race is involved in things, they still somehow point in that direction.

Cro Cop is way more famous to MMA fans, not neccessarily UFC fans. There are some UFC fans out there who have never seen Pride or any other organization, only what they see on Spike.

Maybe if Sylvia had beaten Couture we'd be watching a Cro Cop-Sylvia bout next instead of some nobody. Maybe UFC is just doing Randy a favor giving him more time to enjoy the belt before they let Mirko kick his head in.Edited by: jared

Cro Cop is way more famous to MMA fans and UFC fans, IMO, than both Rampage and Anderson Silva, especially Silva. I was making a comparison of Cro Cop and the other new arrivals who fought for a title after only one warm up fight.

But we also have to consider that there may not be anyone in the heavyweight ranks right now who wants to fight Cro Cop, either. I read in an interview that Cro Cop said he wants to fight three times then get the title. He said he was going to fight as often as the UFC would let him.

If that's the case, the UFC has to give Cro Cop a can that they think he can beat, otherwise they lose their investment. What good would it do to have them sign him and then have him lose on a fluke (GSP anyone?) to someone like Pe de Pano or even Arlovski? Right now they're probably holding their breath that Gonzaga doesn't take him down and submit him!

They have to hold on to Cro Cop, hope he doesn't fall victim to the upset curse stalking MMA right now, and set up a mega pay day fight between him and Randy Couture for the title.

EDIT: p.s. If I remember correctly, that's just the way Mirko put it - get the title. He didn't say fight for the title; he said get the title!

It was reported/ rumored that Cro Cop wanted some extra time to get acquainted with Cage fighting. UFC has him locked up for several fights so it makes since to allow the casual fan who only knows about UFC Unleashed and TUF reality show to see him in a few warm-up fights before he gets a shot. Plus, he gets accustomed to the Octagon in the process.

Jackson was brought to the UFC to rematch with Liddell. He actually asked for a couple more tune up fights but the UFC didn't oblige. Hopefully, the rematch will be much different.

Poacher,
I think I'm looking more forward to that fight as well mainly because I believe it will be more competitive than Cro Cop - Gonzaga. I watched the pre-fight show on Spike the other night; they are really hyping Gonzaga as a jiu-jitsu master who can definitely beat Cro Cop if he gets him on the ground. His record is garbage; a few wins over fighters who are 0-1, 7-4, etc. I think Cro Cop KO's him, but given the recent number of upsets, who knows?

WS,

I saw the same preview on Spike last night (after TUF 5) too. If Gonzaga's training is just limited to what they showed (hitting pads, rolling with BJJ white belts & basic gym workouts), he's not going to be ready to fight someone the caliber of CroCop. Most of these top fighters train with teams (ATT, Quest, MFS, etc.), and roll & spar with other top MMA fighters, BJJ specialists & boxers, etc. Gonzaga's training didn't look in-depth enough to hang with CroCop. My $ is on Mirko, and I think he'll knock the boy out!

Mirko is at another level than Gonzaga. But this is MMA and Mirko has suffered a one punch flash KO before. That said I think CC has trained hard and is going to be ready for this fight. I believe CC ends it in the first or second round.

As for Arlovski/ Werdum; I've never been a big Arlovski fan. I don't know what it is but there is something I don't quite like about him. I've never seen Werdum fight but I know he is another one of these BJJ guys. I am actually going to pick Werdum to win this.

Looks like they're trotting out Kongo on this card as well. Pitting him against Assuerio Silva. It'll be interesting to see if Kongo has worked on his ground game since his untimely loss to Mureurro (I butchered that name). Although now that I think about it we probably won't see much ground fighting in that one. They've given Kongo someone he can out-strike to help rehabilitate his self-confidence.

All in all it should be an interesting card. I'm not complaining...how often do you get to see CC for free?

I used to like Arlovski alot, back when he was hairy and mean, you know.. before he went all metrosexual and pretty boy and proceeded to get KTFO? Anyway, I don't know who he is and which one will show up, but I'm not picking him in this fight, either. I think it's a toss up depending on which version of Arlovski shows up.

I want to see the vicious Arlovski tonight with the fang mouthpiece and everything else he had before those losses to Sylvia. I doubt that Gonzaga will make it past the first round tonight. I believe that a Cro-Cop kick will put him on the mat and a series of punches on the ground after that will cause the ref to step in and stop the fight. I hope Bisping is the real deal because the English crowd will be rocking tonight for him. Sinosic is a dangerous fight and a real step up in competition.
