I didn't know that was a bad word. I was referring to what you call it when roosters fight!

Shogun (got it right this time) It seemed like Louiseau became worried about Franklins power right after their initial exchange in the opening round. That was when it looked like he changed his strategy to more of a running defense than any serious offense with the exception of some leg kicks. It should also be noted that Sherdog is reporting Franklin broke his hand and foot early in the fight. I imagine that's the reason Louiseau was not KO'ed.

Shogun, Regarding the thumb down punching style, I notice many of the russian fighters like Igor Vovchanchen and sometimes CroCop seem to strike like that on occassion. I have no idea why and it would seem to me you could break your hand much easier. As far as the race debate goes, many of the brazilians consider themselves to be white. And finding a quality muai thai instructor may be difficult in many areas around the United States so you probably have to settle with who is available. I also strongly suspect many of the fighters, black, white,Japanese etc., have racialist views but it would be professional suicide to publicly state so. I once overheard a well known fighter refer to his black opponent as a chimp right before he went out and soundly beat him. I personally make no bones about it. I want to see the white fighter win, simply because he is white. Believe me, most blacks are very racially aware and have no problems whatsoever voting, supporting, praising and promoting their own. It seems the only group that can't come to terms with the idea are caucasians.

On the thumbs-down technique:

I'm not sure but it may be a defense against elbow strikes. Your own elbows should remain high to block standing elbow strikes - keeping your guard high. The elbows are kept high even when in the act of throwing a punch. If your elbows are high, your thumbs will naturally point downward. Just try raising elbows (like a chicken flapping its wings) and you will notice your thumbs pointing downward.
Does it sound reasonable?

Sounds reasonable, but if you strike like that are you not placing the smaller knuckles of your fist at the point of impact making it much more likely to break your hand? Just a thought.

Gee guys, why complicate things?

White Guy beats black guy in fight on national T.V. That's all you need to know. Politics, all other discussions are unimportant.

It DID not matter for cultural perceptions that Jesse Owens was friendly with Luz Long, or that Joe Louis and Max Schmelling got to have a fairly decent respect for each other, or that Ali actually seems to have respected Rocky.

It's being reported now that Franklin broke his left hand, possibly tore tendons in his right hand and injured his left foot/ankle

Gives you some indication of how much he pounded on Loiseau in that fight.
