Thrashen
Hall of Famer
So this is the result when Jon Jones, the most “electrifying” and “dominant” MMA fighter in the world, actually has to fight someone with a similar body type? After seeing the shots Alex endured against Shogun and Silva, I knew Jones didn’t have what I took to KO Gustafsson. Like the diamond chin of Vitali Klitschko, I don’t think it’s physically possible to knock the Swede out. So much for those “20-1” odds, huh?
Here is the first time anyone has taken Jones down...
Alex is the only fighter to make Jones look average. If there is a rematch, I think Jones will be advised not to stand and bang with a man who couldn’t be KO’ed by a lead pipe to the cranium. Then again, Jones couldn’t seem to take him down (only a 1 to 10 success rate) last night, either.
So how will the “Pompous One” (who looked sullen, battered, and frustrated in the post fighter interview) fare in a rematch against a guy who isn’t intimated by his “superhuman” reputation, out-pointed him all night, was the first to take him down, won 3-4 rounds against him, and absorbed every one of his punches, vicious elbows, and brain-rattling head kicks without the slightest sign of wilting. The “mystique” has officially withered...

Jones was loaded into a stretcher and is presumably being taken to the hospital. Far worse shape than Alex, who conducted a few interviews.

Worse for Jones, he took away his one supposedly overwhelming advantage of the mat.
Nine times, Jones shot for a takedown. Nine times, Gustafsson defended with ease. The tenth time was the charm, but Gustafsson was back to his feet in seconds. When it came to wrestling, the challenger had the champ's number, even depositing Jones on the mat for the first times in his UFC career.
