Speedster 2b,ss, maybe cf is back up with the Nats and recently hit two triples and stole home. His max speed on one of the triples was 22.7 mph which is the fastest in MLB this year. With the A's Billy Burns being sent back down to the minors blazing white speedsters are given short leashes and most fail to stick which annoys the hell out of me. . Man am I rooting hard for this guy. The media of course is pretty much ignoring him but everytime Billy Hamilton does anything ESPN has an orgasm.

I think it will help in the long run that he can play several positions. Teams are putting more value in those players because of injuries.

So the local Ziomedia rag, the Washington Compost, decided they can no longer ignore Turner's production and obvious talent and wrote a piece about him in today's edition of the rag.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...c61fb6-7077-11e6-8365-b19e428a975e_story.html

The article was on his overall talent with an emphasis on his speed. The article started out very positive but then it turns into one big backhanded compliment. Here are some excerpts:

"Turner’s emergence as the fastest player on the Nationals came after Manager Dusty Baker attracted criticism in December for saying the club needed more Latin and African American players to add speed to the roster. It’s an irony not lost on Turner — or his teammates. “I hear it all the time, that I’m fast for a white guy,” Turner said. “I’m used to it.” Said (Bryce) Harper: “He’s the fastest white boy I’ve ever seen. You can quote me on that.”"

"Assistant hitting coach Jacque Jones and others, including outfielder Ben Revere, said jokes about Turner’s speed are not uncommon in the clubhouse.“People say white people don’t got speed,” said Revere, himself one of the faster players in the majors. “But he definitely got brother speed. Let’s put it that way. He’s one of the weird types of fast white boys. He can run.”"

"Reliever Shawn Kelley called Turner the fastest player in baseball. First base coach Davey Lopes determined it’s a toss-up between Turner, Cincinnati Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton and Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon. Starter Joe Ross declared Turner the fastest person he has seen on a baseball field. Outfielder Brian Goodwin said Turner could have succeeded on the track if he didn’t play baseball."

"“He’s fast, bro,” Goodwin said. “Damn fast.”"

"The Nationals began Turner’s center field conversion at Class AAA Syracuse in late June out of necessity. A logjam in the middle infield was blocking Turner from an everyday role in the majors, and they wanted his bat in the lineup because they were getting the worst production in the majors out of the leadoff spot as Revere and Michael A. Taylor floundered. " (So this means Dusty Baker, the new black manager of the Nationals in December, thought that the team needed more speed so he needed to bring in more black and Latino players. So he brought in two negroes, Revere and Taylor, instead of Turner, because they must be faster and better. And of course he wanted to give the bruthas a chance instead of the white boy. And the bruthas proceeded to suck and Baker couldn't deny it any longer, so in June he finally, grudgingly, brought up the white boy. And...)

"Turner’s smooth shift has transformed Washington’s offense. He was named NL rookie of the month for August, when he had 45 hits, the most in a month for a Nationals first-year player. Turner has stolen 20 bases in 23 tries — replay review was needed for the three times he was ruled out — and recorded a hit in eight straight plate appearances against the Baltimore Orioles last month. The day after the streak ended, he tallied two infield hits, forced two errors in one inning with his speed and stole a base in a win over the Colorado Rockies."

The article is written by a Latino, Jorge Castillo. The Compost's white beta writers would not write an article that is so complimentary of a white player's speed, even in a backhanded way like this article does. It is still great to see the fanstastic success Turner has had once he was given a chance. But of course the Caste System Ziomedia can't just say that he's a really good, fast player. They have to present it as "he's fast for a white boy."

It seems backhanded compliments are the only way our guys can get any sort of credit for their skills.. Here's to Trea continuing to shatter stereotypes.

I don't have to say this, but as we all know there are plenty of fast white baseball players! I never have understood why the fast ones don't attempt to steal more bases. Mike Trout stole 49 bases in 54 attempts his rookie season and led the league and 33 the next season. He probably has the best success rate of any current player!
Arizona's Chris Owings is tied for the league lead in triples,(9), yet he has attempted to steal only 17 times. Guess what? He's only been caught once. Why doesn't he steal more?

Jankowski, SD 29-8
Myers, SD 25-5
Paul Goldschmidt is 6'3, 235lbs. and is 23-5!!!!
Trout, LA. 22-5
Turner, WA. 20-3
Harper has 19 stolen bases!
Billy Burns, KC. 16-4
Owings, AZ. 16-1
Braun, MIL. 14-3
Dozier, MN. 13-2
Gardner, NY. 13-2
Kiermaier, TB. 13-2

And where is the great Yasiel Puig? Anyone remember him? He's stolen 30 bases in 50 attempts in his 4 YEAR CAREER for an astounding 60% success rate!
For some reason the white players aren't allowed to take off as often?

The top 5 stolen base leaders average 55 attempts this season, including Villar, MIL., whose stolen 51 bases in 67 attempts. At that rate Jankowski could have 58 stolen bases in 74 attempts and Wil Myers could have 50 stolen bases in 60 attempts. Turner in a full season could have 60 SB's in 69 attempts!

This was a post as you say. I cannot imagine seeing an article like this in a newspaper. When guys like Baker utter that blacks(and Latinos) speed crap it makes me want to PUKE. Nice irony that Baker now has a white speedster in Turner. This guy is very important for CF and we can only hope he continues playing as well as he has this season. Whereas the MLB network says good things about Turner, ESPN for the most part and so far SI are playing it cool on him which is no surprise so it is paramount he makes big noise to the point where they can't ignore him any longer. He is the most important white MLB player to come down the pike since Mike Trout.

There is some talk on the internet swirling around Turner's speed. Yes he is being ignored by the usual big media suspects but there is now the minor possibility that Turner might consider Track and Field sprinting .Crazy I know and doubtful but even Turner himself has thought about the subject. My guess is Turner could run a 4.2 second 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine. He has never run track or played football to my knowledge. Does make you wonder though with the proper training at age 23? But I like him in baseball and everyday I pray he plays well for the obvious reasons. He can run a 6.2 60 yard dash . In baseball they consider two or now three or even four speed measurements. The 60 yard dash is standard, home to first(on drag bunts and regular hits), 10 yard dash which is newish and even max speed levels where Turner was running nearly 23 MPH around the bases no less.

I remember seeing a youtube video I believe of Mike Trout, Cincinnati's Hamilton another wiry black player stealing second and comparing their times. Trout was just barely slower than Hamilton, but what the commentator's failed to mention was that Hamilton is about 160 lbs., while Trout is 235 lbs. Put 75 lbs. on Hamilton's back and see how fast he gets down to second!
I would like to see Turner compared to Hamilton. While I think Turner is bigger than Hamilton, he has more of slight build compared to Trout. I suppose someone may do a comparison sometime in the future if Turner keeps stealing a lot of bases. Yes, I just checked. Turner is 6'1, 185. Bigger than Hamilton, 6'0, 160.

Turner hits 2 HR's last night, giving him 8 in 52 games. He also has 77 hits/21 steals which projects to an astounding 240 hits and 64 steals over a 162 game schedule. It will be interesting to see what he does over a full season!

Good article in USA Today on Turner. Calling him the Nationals indispensable "burner."

He's batting .341, 27 SB, and 12 HR's in 63 games. He's leading the NL in total bases, (156)since the All-Star break. He's one of only four players with 10 HR's, 25 stolen bases, and a .900 OPS, joining Mike Trout, Paul Goldschmidt, and Jose Altuve.

The first player in 25 years to steal 27 bases in less than 60 games. The only rookie to finish with a higher batting average is Ichiro Suzuki,.350, but he was a 27 year old Japanese batting champion.

Last week he became the first rookie since 1904, Art Devlin, to get 4 hits, score 4 runs, hit a home run, and steal 2 bases in one game!

The Nationals traded for White Sox CF Adam Eaton. So, Trea Turner will be the fulltime SS next season. The Nats will have Bryce Harper, Eaton and Jayson Werth in the OF. Daniel Murphy, Trea Turner and Ryan Zimmerman in the infield. Ace pitchers Strasburg and Scherzer. Harper, Turner and Murphy are all potential all-star, even MVP candidates. Definitely a team to watch next season.

The only fly in this ointment is if they do not trade SS Danny Espinoza. I expect they will but white speedsters are usually put on the back burner so lets say Turner wins the starting job and gets off to a slow start, with Espinoza around chances are he would get yanked from the lineup. That said with Eaton now the Nats will be a team worth rooting for. As for Trea Turner he is the fastest white athlete in the pro ranks which include football and basketball as well.. Who knows he could be the FASTEST pro athlete today ? His blinding speed ( people are mumbling about the Olympic 100 meters ) easily makes him one of our most important athletes and it is a good thing the Nats addressed their centerfield issues with a sparkplug like Eaton which allows Turner to move back to SS his more natural position. Also for the White Sox Eaton's departure might open the way for 24 year old speedster Charlie Tilson so all in all this move could work out well.

I was happy to see the Nats got Eaton therefore saving a caste move of keeping Turner in the outfield rather than at SS. We are seeing some elite guys at the SS position: Story, Seager and now Turner. There have also been a few white SS taken early in the past few drafts that may be ready for the MLB next season.

Atlanta's SS Dansby Swanson is on the rise also! Hit .302 in 38 games this year. Has some great highlights on youtube. He should be the Braves full time starter at SS next year.
