Tony Scheffler

I'm surprised that Tony Scheffler has not come up on this board a little more. I just saw him score a touchdown.

He's got 4.6 speed and excellent size. If he manages to get a little faster we could be looking at another Matt Jones, except with Jay Cutler throwing the ball.

He's already caught 4 TDs this season, a Bronco rookie record.

Cutler to Scheffler can be an unstoppable combination unless the white hating NFL, Mike Shanahan's outpost in this case, stops it which is what will probably happen. NFL coaches can't deal with white superstars at ball catching positions.

yes, but from what i have seen, Scheffler plays faster than his measureables, while Davis isn't even the best TE on his team (that would be underused Eric Johnson) and doesn't look all that fast. I would even say that Gates is faster than him.

that's true, of course. i just remarked on the fact that Scheffler's combine time was faster than Clark's. Dallas is very quick, whereas Scheffler has more of a straight line speed, imo.

Clark excels at running after the catch. He's made a lot of big plays for a tight end. I don't know if Scheffler has the same running skills or notbut he sure looks impressive so far.

for what it's worth, Mike Shanahan has stated that he thinks Scheffler will be better than Tony Gonzalez (who many feel is the best tight end in the game) in the very near future, and that Scheff is probably the fastest tight end in the league.

he specifically singled out Antonio Gates, whom he said Scheffler would outrun any time they raced. most caste zealots feel that Gates is the fastest tight end in the league (facts aside, of course.

Scheffler is very good, but he could have put up much better numbers if Denver hadnt thrown all that money at Daniel Graham. I was just puzzled when they announced that signing. Why would you sign another TE to come in and take the majority of the snaps when you have a good young one that is obviously already developing a nice repore (sp?) with your young franchise QB. its also nice to see them get rid of Walker. Hes a good reciever (albeit injury prone), but he would never have been happy in Denver, because it was obvious that Cutlers favorite target from the get go was and is Brandon Marshall. hope you guys get used to seeing Cutler to Marshall, its gonna be a succesful connection for a long time.

well i wouldnt mind marshall sticking around as well and getting 1200-1400 yards a year with double digit tds. but if shanahan wises up and gets sheffler on the field more often and relegates graham to backup statis, then sheffler will get 800-1000 yards a year easy. the guys just flat out a great athlete. he might be the best athlete at TE the broncos have ever had. sharpe was great, but i dont think he was as much of a natural athlete as sheffler is.

As OTA practices went on, it became very apparent that McDaniels will find a big role for him. The Patriots weren't tight-end friendly with McDaniels calling plays, but Scheffler is the kind of talent McDaniels has to utilize. He is fast and has great hands, and is a matchup problem for most teams. Also, Scheffler had a healthy offseason, and could have a breakout year if he avoids injuries this season.

Thoughts? Seems as though his talent is recognized, and withholding any disasters, he'll get good time, passes his way, etc.

I really hope Marshall gets traded. That would benefit not only Scheffler, also Stokley. He'd hopefully emerge from the slot position (not that his being there is necessarily bad, but...) and get more time and looks too. Eddie Royal would probably become #1 and Stokley #2. Unless they just kept him as the slot and move Jabar Gaffney up, even though I think Stokley is better than Gaffney in all regards.

And with a new QB in Denver, hopefully the versatility and continued steady play of mainstays would help out, rather than childish behavior, complaining, and the suspensions that seemed to define Marshall.

That is great news! He went to Western Michigan and he nowhas a young talented quarterback in Matt Stafford to throw to him! They could be a great QB\TE combo if they develop the right chemistry.
