NFLdraftscout ranks Tyler Gaffney as the #10 FB when he is clearly going to be getting his shot to be the next Gerhart at Stanford. I guess NFLdraftscout are a bunch of sissys that prefer to convert to anti white wacko policy rather than go against the blatantly obvious agenda of United Negro College Fund's undercover affiliate whiterivals.com. At RB NegroFundLeaguescout.com has Rex Burkhead ranked 37th and Brandon Wegher ranked a disgusting 65th and they have zero other white tailbacks in their top 100 for 2013.

And a note to drunk white fans. Gaffney runs a faster 40 time and looks slightly more elusive than Gerhart, but isn't quite as powerful. Gaffney is clearly a tailback. He runs a 4.44 and ran for 2,800 yards as a senior while leading his team to a state championship with a 300 yard rushing performance in the finals. Plus he's not typical FB size at 6 foot and only 212 lbs. Watch his Youtube video- the guy is very similar to Cierre Wood for talent level and for running style.

i agree with Jimmy, although like every other white back who's over 220 pounds he will be perceived as a fullback and told to bulk up...

we really need Hillis, Leonard and Woodhead (Hester looks to be doomed, save for a string of injuries in Chargers backfield) to prove that whites can run in order for Sharp and Gerhart to have a shot.

Toby is my favourite player since Mike Alstott retired, i really hope for the best from him. let the system be fair with him!!!

There are several FBS teams with single season rushing records that low. Vandy is one of them, 1,103.

I guess I just don't know too much about college football. I will be watching more games this season though.

Alot of it is because they only played an 11 game season in college for many years. It just last year went to 12 games for everyone. That is still an average of almost 100 yards every game he played in! The NFL plays a 16 game schedule. It also can depend if you are at a pass happy school and the Pac Ten has always been known for that with alot of the teams. Toby Gerhart is a stud!Edited by: white lightning

Yeah, but think about the history of backs at Stanford, which has a pretty spotty football history. There's Bob Mathias, Brad Muster and Touchdown Tommy Vardell, maybe Glyn Milburn and that's it.

Draft Daddy linked to this article which rates running backs for the '10 NFL Draft. Gerhart is ranked sixth among seniors, but notice the doublespeak description of him:

He's a "workhorse" with the obligatory limited athleticismand can only be considered at best to play a part in one of the NFL's trendy RBBCs (running back by committee). For some reason I think Gerhart and a lot of other capable white running backs would thrive in a colorblind NFL as workhorses.

And I don't claim to be an expert on Toby, but I'd be very surprised if he isn't a better receiver at the next level than most current RBs. A white running back who isn't the complete package? Not likely. An inability to catch and/or block is almost always a black thang. Edited by: Don Wassall

Stanford has been a quarterback factory since the 70s. Probably more QBs out of Stanford made it to the NFL than any other university over the last 30 to 40 years. Not a system that running backs would thrive in.

Stanford has a flashy new quarterback, but Toby Gerhart is the key to the season.

The big news out of Stanford's training camp has been the ascension of redshirt freshman quarterback Andrew Luck, a star in the making.


The 6-foot-4. 235-pound Luck has NFL tools and an upperclassmen's understanding of the position, perhaps not surprising since his dad, Oliver, was a pro quarterback.<A name=more></a>


The younger Luck essentially won the job before camp convened, unseating fifth-year senior Tavita Pritchard by throwing for 352 yards and five touchdowns in the spring game.


Luck might be as good as advertised, but has yet to throw his first official, college pass. In the meantime, tailback Toby Gerhart will be the man who makes the Cardinal go.


Gerhart is strong, fast and pounded defenses for 1,386 yards last season behind lead blocker Owen Marecic in Stanford's throwback, I formation attack. It's a power-oriented, here-we-come, stop-us-if-you can offense, and the polar opposite of the spread philosophy now in vogue.


On paper, it looks like the perfect fit for a quarterback like Luck, who has all the tools but no hands-on experience. If the Cardinal uses the running game to keep in favorable down-and-distance situations, it should minimize Luck's mistakes and maximize his strengths.


It all might be enough to push Stanford into a bowl game for the first time since the now-defunct Seattle Bowl in 2001.


But depth is an issue throughout the roster, particularly in the secondary. Two players expected to see lots of playing time as defensive backs were offensive players last year. Senior Richard Sherman, a receiver the past three seasons who has a career average of 16.5 yards per catch, is penciled in at cornerback. Safety Delano Howell was a running back in 2008 who caught four passes against Oregon.


Both players could see time on offense too, and they probably won't be the only ones.


Marecic, the former Jesuit High star, is expected go two ways at fullback and linebacker. Linebacker. Linebacker Alex Debniak could see action at running back -- he had four carries for 91 yards in the spring game.


Coach Jim Harbaugh is selling the two-way approach as a way to get his best players on the field. But it has drawbacks too. It will necessarily shorten practice preparation. And, if one of Harbaugh's two-way guys gets hurt, the Cardinal takes a hit at two positions.


Stanford looks solid on the offensive and defensive lines, and linebacker Clinton Synder is a big-time player.


The Cardinal barely missed the postseason last year, finishing 5-6 despite an anemic passing attack that ranked ninth in the conference, ahead only of Washington State.


If Luck provides an upgrade, Gerhart stays healthy and the experiment with one-platoon football comes off, this could work.


Watch the way Stanford starts. Of the Cardinal's first five games, only the Sept. 12 trip to Wake Forest looks like a tough hurdle.

Hopefully they have somewhat of a passing attack. It would stop teams from stacking the box to stop Gerhart. Imagine how many yards he would have gotten if opposing defenses werent jut keying in on him? It is amazing that he got over 1,100 yards, just goes to show how good he is.

In the Latest News section its says "A bruising back in the mold of former Stanford star (and Cleveland Browns first-round pick) "Touchdown" Tommy Vardell".
In the analysis section it says "NFL Comparison: Brian Leonard, Cincinnati Bengals"

I'm not very good at maths, but what the the probabilities of a prospect being compared to 2 different NFL running backs- and they are both white! That has got to be about 0.000001% chance!
(He might actually be quite simillar to one or both of them - I haven't seen him play much yet, but am hoping to catch some college football on ESPN Europe this year)

sh*t, i just found out that Toby had a 40 yard TD run against WF, a week before that got rolled back on a really bad call. he's on pace for 1200 yards and 16 TDs atm.

I watched number 7 play against my team, ASU. The guy is fun to watch. Big. Intimidating. Gets through the line, runs right past the linebackers and turns corners and safeties into roadkill. Do you really want to get in front of that raging bull? Fast. Quick. Can turn the corner. He makes the cut and does not dillie, dallie around in the backfield. Yeah, he's fun to watch. Moves really well, especially for a big back. Its nice that Harbaugh compared him with Riggins. I plan on watching him next Sat. against UW. Now that UW has a decent coach, they look really good. Took LSU to the limit and defeated USC. Not bad for a team that floundered for several years under different leadership. Stanford also has very competent leadership, and it's pleasant to see a talented white back running wild in the Pac-10. The Cardinal v. Husky game is set to start at 6:00 pm (Pacific?) and will be televised by FOX Pacific.

The cheap penalty call nullifying Toby's 40 yarder is a bummer. This would have pushed his YPC from 4.9 to 5.4. I'm not liking that he's under 5 YPC right now. The NFL only needs the slightest excuse to excuse a white tailback from playing in the NFL. I know Toby's played some real tough defenses, but he'll have to step it up a bit starting this week.

It sure was great to see Toby go for 200 yards rushing. This kid is so powerful but yet has the speed of a guy alot lighter. Like some posters have said, he is so much like John Riggins. The kid is a beast and he needs to stay with football. It is where he shows the most skill. I am hoping he can lead the Pac Ten in rushing and make a serious run at the national lead in that catergory as well. He will have to remain healthy and keep putting up huge numbers for the NFL to even have remote interest. The hard thing for Toby is that the teams will be preparing for the run with Stanford having a young qb. Good luck to him in his pursuit of 2000 yards!
