Every single analysis I read this week had the same opinion -- the Ravens passing game was going to be improved simply by Anthony Wright taking over for the hated Kyle Boller.

I'll be rooting for the Titans all season, not least because fully half their defensive players are white, unheard offorquite some timein the NFL. Today the youngest defensive unit in the leaguedominated Wright and the Ravens. It's only one game but it was sweet to see. Kyle Vanden Bosch had three sacks, Peter Sirmon and Travis LaBoy each had one. Way to go Tennessee.

You meant "white" instead of "black" of course. It's actually quite amazing what Jeff Fisher and Floyd Reese have done on defense the past couple years. Now if only they would bench McNair to make way for the team's best quarterback, Billy Volek.

It has to be so hard for Volek to sit on the bench when he knows that he is a better qb.The sad truth is that he is wasting some of his best years on the sidelines.Volek would spark that offense so much it would be like the 4th of July.

kyle boller is a proven bust and should be a career backup. he's been the worst starter for 2 or 3 years now. anthony wright is clearly better, although he is not a starter quality quarterback himself. the ravens look like one of the worst teams this year, despite being the one of the blackest teams as well. brian billick is in trouble.

i think mcnair has another year or 2 left in the tank. but all those career injuries are really taking their toll.

Jody, how is Anthony Wright clearly better? Can you post stats to back that up or is that just your opinion. He did pretty poorly last week and this week. I'm no Boller fan, but you seem to be giving Anthony Wright a free pass.

As far as McNair, he has been a good QB in the past but never even close to a great. He had two years left in the tank 4 years ago and should now be summoned to the bench. Were not talking about Montana, Farve, Marino, or other legendary QB who deserved a year or two to prove they are finished. He can't throw - he should be done. Thats my opinion.

Anthony Wright is freaking horrible! The Ravens also signed 15 time retread Kordell Stewart last week! Boller is obviously no good, but Anthony Wright and Kordell Stewart?!?!?! Can Andre Ware and Rodney Peete be far behind to play QB for the hapless Ravens? Quite possibly the worst team in the NFL. I am loving this by the way

Boller is that bad?

2005 NFL QB Rating
Kyle Boller68.2
Drew Brees 67.0
David Carr 47.9
Daunte Culpepper 41.6
Brett Favre76.1
Gus Frerotte74.4
Joey Harrington 53.3
J.P. Losman72.2
Jake Plummer59.9

Okay, enough is enough. Sure, Boller isn't that good. I cherry picked through the bottom half of the worst quarterbacks in the league to put this list together. But the question is, how many of those other guys are in danger of losing their jobs? How many of those guys are shouldering the entire blame for their teams anemic performances?

Some of these teams have far better receivers than the Ravens, too.

Do you think Culpepper is going to be benched for Brad Johnson any time soon?

If Anthony Wright had started the season, would they have benched him already for Kyle Boller?

The Ravens Quaterbacks as a group couldn't be much worse. I half expect them to pick up Ryan Leaf

is this castefootball.us or not?

i have a hard time believing the guys at a football site do not know how truly bad kyle boller is. i think you are defending him strictly because he is white. please stop. he sucks. a lot. he should never be a starter in the NFL again. he is awful. have you even watched him? he can't even throw the ball. i'm totally, 100% dead serious. he can't throw.

you can see all the ugly details here.

http://www.nfl.com/stats

take a look at 2003 and 2004. boller has been the worst for 2 years now. he got pulled at exactly the right time. right after another 2 bad games where he showed once again that he can't even throw a football.

mcnair was the co-MVP 2 years ago. yes, he most definitely was a great quarterback at one time.

brett favre? he's done. he needs to retire real bad. i'll even predict right now that mcnair will have a better year than favre.

Co-MVP?? That award is so slanted by the media talking heads that it cant be considered when trying to explain why a player is "great". Ive looked at Mcnair's stats and i would rank him good at best, certainly not "great".

I predict they both have crappy years and they both need to retire. Real bad

Jody,

An award giving by the media means absolutely nothing to me. I am capable of forming my opinion all by myself thank you. I did enough by saying that he used to be a "good" quarterback, but there is NO WAY he was ever a "great" quarterback. Are serious about putting McNair in the "great" status? Why don't you check his stats.

The point of caste football is to promote white players. There are plenty of Boller bashers out there in the media and plenty more who think Mcnair as a great as Peyton Manning. Why not bash Anthony Wright instead of saying that he is "CLEARLY BETTER" than Kyle Boller. Again provide your stats and don't bring up any media given award please.

Hey Jody
Maybe I missed it somewhere, but I didn't see your post recommending that they bench Culpepper. Was it on another thread? He is clearly WORSE than Boller at this point. His team is also 0-2. His stats and play are far WORSE than Boller's too.

As are David Carr's, Joey Harrington's, Jake Plummer's, and even Drew Bree's. How can you say I'm simply defending Boller because he is white when I use the poor play of black AND white QB's to exonerate him?

Yes, Boller isn't a great QB. Hell, maybe not even a good one. But he isn't much worse than some of these other guys, and I believe they are talking him down simply to have an excuse to start another sorry QB in his place.

A sorry BLACK QB.

Boller is a young quarterback put in a lousy situation. What quarterback has succeeded for Baltimore since Brian Billick took over? Only Trent Dilfer and he was run out of town.

Boller's had lousy receivers to throw to. His only weapon, Todd Heap, is injured more than he's healthy.

They did bring in Derrick Mason this year so they finally have a good possession receiver at least. If Boller gets his starting job back in a month when his toe injury heals, and if he hasn't progressed by the end of the season, then it's possible he's a bust. But after 1+ seasons as a starter I don't think a verdict can be reached. Or should white QBs always have much less time to prove themselves than black ones?

Boller is no dummy andhe has the arm strength to throw a football through the goal post while kneeling at the 50 yard line. Those that have pronounced him a failure already said the same thing about Drew Brees, Trent Dilfer and even Eli Manning last year.

white shogun: yes, boller is that bad. check http://www.nfl.com/stats and look at 2003 and 2004

kaptain poop: check http://www.nfl.com/stats and look at 2003. mcnair finished with a 100 rating. he was the highest rated quarterback in the entire NFL. the best favre ever did was 99. mcnair's career rating is a 84. favre's career rating is an 87. the only thing you can say is that favre won a ring and mcnair lost his superbowl. otherwise these guys are pretty close in passing ability. obviously mcnair is the better playmaker and runner.

white shogun: i guess you missed it when i called him fumblepepper. he should take a seat if he throws 3 picks again next week. i advise you to visit http://www.nfl.com/stats and look at culpepper's seasons in the past. he's never finished a season rated even close to boller.

i know you are defending boller strictly because he is white, because KYLE BOLLER SUCKS and is a bust. http://www.nfl.com/stats has all the stats you need. is anybody with a rating as low as boller over the last 2 years still a starter? the ravens are actually looking forward to when this bust can start again. incredible.

white shogun: yes favre should retire. even favre says favre wants to retire.

don wassall: when has boller ever shown us anything? i see nothing from him. i'm from pittsburgh. i see the ravens play all the time. boller can't throw the ball down field. his accuracy sucks. his arm sucks. he often throws at the receiver's feet the way kordell stewart used to. he hasn't improved at all. this guy is a clear cut bust. what's the big deal with defending this guy? have credibility. please. admit when a white player is a bust!

you know the funniest thing about boller is how everybody says he can throw a ball through the goal post while kneeling at the 50. well, in a game he can't reliably throw a 20 yard pass, and that's just the damn truth. he's the worst passer i've seen in a couple years and the stats back me up.

don't bother bringing eli manning into this. a rookie who could clearly throw but made bad decisions is not a year 3 guy who clearly can't throw. boller is a bust because he can't throw and that's something you can't fix at this point. it's not a matter of him getting better or learning the game. he's simply not an NFL level talent.

Jody, I don't agree with your assessment but I support your right to say it. Time will tell with Boller. I don't think he's been given enough of it nor enough receiving talent to work with, but it's very possible that he just can't cut it as a starting NFL QB.

I think the real problem with Baltimore's offense is the head coach. When the offense is bad every single year without exception, the buck stops with Brian Billick not any individual player.

I think resonable people can disagee over the relative merits of a player white or black. I believe a central point of this issue is has Boller been given a fair chance not so much his talent level. I think that should be the focus now since he is hurt and cannot disprove the question either way.

Oddly enough we had the same type of discussion over Brett Favre on another thread a year ago. Lots of strong emotions concerning him too.

For my own two cents on the Favre/McNair issue I don't think they are even close in fantasy football value which is a good indication of their statistical ability.

Also, is the call for Favre to retire stronger then the one for McNair? (I have not even heard of anyone suggesting McNair give it up except on this site) Favre however is constantly goaded by the media into discussing his impending retirement all the while he leads his team to playoff after playoff. Strange.

I missed that. When did Favre say that? Oh, and outside of CS handles (I convict myself there

I'm not saying Boller doesn't suck. he may indeed be a lousy QB. I thought I said as much when I posted the QB ratings of some of the worst QB in the league - Boller's included. Some of the guys with worse stats even have better WR than Boller, but again - no is suggesting that they ride pine.

What I'm arguing is that there are just as many other QB as lousy as he is, but no one suggests that they be benched, retire, or just quit the NFL entirely.

Yes, I noticed that you nicknamed Daunte "Fumblepepper," but thats not the same as saying he should be benched. Thanks for clearing that up. At least you're trying to be consistent in that area.

Regarding Daunte's former star status as a great QB, maybe we're seeing how much more talent Randy Moss has than how great is Daunte's throwing ability.

I noticed an article on ESPN the other day, regarding Daunte. Instead of recommending that Daunte be benched for Brad Johnson, the article suggested that Mike Tice should be canned. But in Baltimore's case, its obviously Boller's fault, right? No one says Billick should be fired.

What I am attempting to point out here is the double standard evident in the treatment of black QB vs white QB. Do you really think we will EVER see Mick Vick, Daunte Culpepper, or Steve McNair benched, no matter how poorly they may play?

The Titans signed free agent LB David Thornton of the Colts. Along with Keith Bulluck that will give Tennessee at least two black starters at LB this year. Rocky Boiman and Brad Kassell are free agents and apparently won't be re-signed. The article on Thornton's signing says that Jeff Fisher "wanted to add more speed to his linebacking corps," Caste System lingo for blackening it up.

Along with the restructuring of McNair's contract, this doesn't look good. Tennessee may also draft Vince Young. The Rams and Titans both look to be going in the wrong direction.
