The 2009 Masters

The 2009 Masters is just around the corner. The Tiger Woods love affair promoted by the MSM is already well underway, but there are many standout white golfers who have a good chance to claim the coveted Green Jacket.

Any comments from the faithful as to who you want to win and why?

I'll be rooting for Mickelson, but I would be very happy if Padraig Harrington won. Why? Because it would mean three straight majors for him and then the media would be forced to talk about a possible "Paddy Slam" going into the U.S. Open.


If Harrington does win, the media will of course claim Harrington's British Open and PGA wins last year "don't count" because the Future President of the World didn't play in them because of injury, but they do count, and Harrington played brilliantly in both of them, closing out his opponents withsimply outstanding clutchgolf on the back nine of the final round.


But a Mickelson win would be very sweet as well. I'd also like to see Sergio Garcia break through so the media will quit harassing him about his failure to win a major, as they did with Phil for so long.

Harrington or Mickelson would be nice but Geof Ogilvy has been playing well and I'd also like to see Jim Furyk win.

I pray none of these guys (whites especially) get intimidated by Tiger Woods. It's time they step up their game. As brilliant Tiger really is, it can get boring seeing the same man win all the time. It's time someone gave him a real run on his money.

I will be cheering for Phil Mickelson, maybe then he will pass Tiger for #1 golfer. I'd also like to see Garcia, Cink, Furyk, and Harrington win. It would be nice to see Tiger stumble.


I agree with j4, I hope none of the whites there act like Shaun O'Hair and blow a lead against Tiger. It almost seemed like O'Hair was paid or something there, he was sucking it up that whole last round. I guess Tiger was in his group, though.

Playing with/against Tiger Woods in the final pairing on a Sunday is a lot like playing against Serena Williams in a tennis final. Both are extremely tough mentally and have lots of physical talent to go with it.


That said, both are human. Woods wins about a quarter of the tournaments, including majors, that he enters. Serena is flighty and inconsistent. She's very vulnerable in the early stages of just about any tournament. They're human, they can be beat, they are notable black exceptions in White dominated sports, but they are beatable, as Eastern Europeans have shown so convincingly in boxing.

Folks, Round 2 is over and two whites Chad Campbell, and Kenny Perry are both leaders at -9. A South Korean Anthony Kim set a record with 11 birdies for round 2, he's at -7, 6th position. Ol' Tiger is E, 18th position. Harrington is E at the moment (16th hole), and Mickelson is -3 at the moment (16th hole). No sign of Goosen or Ernie Els. Edited by: j41181

Mickelson went 5 under over the last 7 holes to put himself in contention, though he's still 6 shots behind. Woods is 7 behind and if history is any guide he won't win as he's never come from well back to win a major. All in all it's a pretty good leader board.


BTW, Anthony Kim is American born.

A Caste Football salute to Gary Player, who played the final round today of his 52nd and last Masters on Friday. 52 of them! It's one of the really cool things about golf that great players can continue playing almost as long as they want without embarrassing themselves. In what other sport -- or anything else for that matter -- can you find someone who was among the best in the 1950s still at it and still competitive? Player was the last of the "Big Three" -- Palmer, Nicklaus, Player -- to play The Masters. Player remains in great condition at 73, and has always been a class act, a tremendous ambassador for the sport in spite of the "disadvantage" of being from hated South Africa while it was still white run (and of coursebefore it was subsequently ruined by non-white rule).


I love tradition, healthy traditions that is, and there are few really admirable ones anymore in this soulless, materialistic society. Golf is a tradition laden sport, much like baseball; golf has sold out to an extent to corporate control as has everything else, butBobby Jones' courseand The Masters remain special. The interaction between athlete and spectator is unique in golf, and nowhere better illustrated than in this event. The more sentiment and traditionthe better as far as I'm concerned; I can't get enough of it!

It's over!

It was a double sudden of death playoff between, Angel Cabrera, Chad Campbell, and Kenny Perry, with Angel Cabrera coming on top. I guess the Masters trophy goes to Argentina. Congratulations to him and Argentina!

Congrats to Angel. Perry and Campbell choked in the end, but I'd rather see them lose to another white male. If Tiger had won we'd never hear the end of how great he is. But what does concern me is the mental toughness of our beloved white males for the next tournament.

I like Anthony Kim too, and I think he can take some of the media love affair currently reserved for Tiger. Anyone agree or disagree?

A terrific tournament. Too bad Kenny Perry couldn't close the deal. Mickelson was headed for a 63 but lost his momentum on the back nine.He was a stroke better than Woods todayhead to head, a decent consolation.Lots of great golf to watch, it's a shame the nextMasters is a year away.

I heard Kenny Perry say he never works out and doesn't watch what he eats. Gee, we wouldn't have known if he hadn't spilled the beans. You certainly don't have to be an athlete to be a good golpher I suppose, but would it hurt for some of these guys to get into any kind of shape?

Perhaps some of Eldrick's appeal to the masses is that he doesn't look like a pudgy slob. All in all a good day, not because of who won, but who didn't.

Gee, tough crowd. Woods bogeyed 17 and 18. Six white men and one asian outplayed The Future President of the World. It's a very tough course but some very good scores were posted. Only 8 winners in the history of the tournament bettered the -12 scored by Cabrera, Perry and Campbell.

Perry and Cabrera are naturally strong so it doesn't bother me if they have a gut. The great golfers traditionally were lean, but that was before the current era of super-sizedportions and all kinds of who knows what chemicals and drugs going into thefrankenfood everyone consumes. Why should Kenny Perry, at nearly 50, waste time in his busy lifetrying to lookcut when he plays his sport at a world class level.


I think if Woods were white he'd be widely disliked because he's such a cold fish.He's probably the most fan-unfriendly player on the tour. His physiquemight even be held up to sarcasm rather than being the cause of so much homoerotic oohing and aahing from the media,and there would be questions about juicing, but he's immune from them just like Serena Williams and a lot of black sprinters.Edited by: Don Wassall

Similiar to my comment. I am concerned about this for the next few tournaments. The only white golfer that has bulked up his muscle tone is Mikelson. What kind of message deos that send to our youth when they see a fit, trim and hip blasian playing against a host of pudgy out of shape white males. No joking matter here.

True but I think physique builds confidence which affects the mental state. White guys might have better coordination as you state but the physique matters too IMO. Go back to Roman Gladiator times...only the physically strong survived.

There aren't that many "pudgy out of shape white males" on Tour. Sergio Garcia, Charles Howell, Steve Stricker, Hunter Mahan, Sean O'Hair, Jim Furyk, Adam Scott and all the Aussies, Ernie Els and all the South Africans, Paul Casey and all the Brits, Padraig Harrington. . . none are overweight. Even someone like Mickelson who is naturally husky is very strong and does a lot of physical training. But physique doesn't equal success in golf; much likesome very successful pitchers in baseball aren't cut. And then there are all the overweight and even obese blacks in baseball, football, basketball, etc. Woods is a one-fourth black freak who is always going to be used to maximum advantage by the media against whites psychologically. The undeniable fact that blacksare spectacularly badat golf isn't changed by anything Woods does.
