Teenagers and texting

I love technology but I refuse to let it run my life. Is it me or does it seem like 80 percent of teens and college students in this country are glued to their smart phone. I just cringe when I see somebody walkingin a parking lot with their heads down either texting or surfing the web. It just amazed me how many self absorbed morons are out there these days. I think technology makes people think they are more important then they really are. Go to a resteaaunt and see how many people keep their phones out on the table and ignore their company. I just remember a time not more than 6 years ago when most people werent like this. It used to be 4 years agoI would see people swerving in their cars becasue they were talking on their cell phone. Now its people not even looking at the road as they are looking to the right and down, staring at their I phones. God its annoying becasue number 1 its illegal in my state to do it and #2 it looks as if about 20 % of the people are doing it at all times. What do you guys think?

100% agree, doing it while crossing the street or driving is enough sign how IRRESPONSIBLE and RECKLESS people are becoming for their own well being. Too cooked in this VIRTUAL fantasy to take notice of their own physical reality/environment.

Even though most of these folks are desperately trying to communicate with others non-verbally, I can't help but think of a couple of root words of our modern word idiot. Those are individual and one's own.The ipod generation seems totally involved in the self. One's own sure fits these individuals walking and/or stumbling around totally oblivious to what is going on around them, absorbed in self. I realize this generation is probably the most connected (as far as numbers go) generation ever, but there is still a disconnect that is easily observed.

I think it's obnoxious, rude & annoying to see people in public places like stores, restaurants, etc. yappin' loudly on a dang cell phone (especially those douche-baggish Bluetooth earpieces). Constant texting isn't quiet as irritating, but still sophomoric & egocentric. I work in what's supposed to be a professional, "White collar" environment (large office), but there's always some (AA hire) "brutha" or "sistuh" walking the halls...running their sewers all loudly on their cell phones. It's all I can do to not snatch the stupid cell phone & smash it under my boot.

In their case it's TNB, but (overall) it's bush-league/unprofessional. It's a pet peeve of mine...in case ya'll couldn't tell.

I very rarely text (usually responding to my wife) & generally don't like cell phones (as they're annoying at times), but are a necessity w/ a family and for my job.

What I hate the most is when Im at a bookstore paying for overpriced coffee so I feel less guilty about reading their sports and news magazines and it seems like every 5 minutes somone 10 feet from me loudly answers their phone and proceeds to have the most assinine pointless conversation and not having the intelligence to see I cant concentrate to read when they are talking. Sadly I see mostly whites doing this but then again I live in a White majority area.

I think anyone caught texting while driving should have their phone confiscated and their car impounded on the spot.

A girl passed me doing 65 MPH yesterday driving and texting at the same time. I followed her for about a half-mile when we were both stopped by a stop light, guess what? Yep! She was still texting.

So for over a half-mile this woman texted and drove at least 65 MPH. Insane if you ask me, may as well give her a bottle of liquor, it would probably be safer.

These people are a public nuisance and a danger to society. The funny thing is insurance companies are starting to request phone records now, in the event of an accident. Someone texting and talking gets into an accident-insurance denied, proof positive that you were talking/texting at the time of the accident.

Go straight to jail.

I've had the tremendous displeasure of "growing up"Â￾ during the cell-phone
(de-)evolution. I own the cheapest cell-phone (it was actually free with my plan 5-6 years ago), with the cheapest possible calling plan. I only have it turned on when making a rare phone call, then I immediately turn it off thereafter.

I find the mobile phone and texting phenomenon boundlessly annoying. Mind You, this constant textingmania isn't isolated to "genuine" teens- here in Australia we have have a vast population of Social security-enabled forty-year-old adolescents who, despite the irony of the mirror's crushing evidence,believe that they are perennially sixteen or seventeen, dressing and behaving accordingly.


I took my mother to the bank today and was waiting for her in my parked car. A fat girl somewhere in the range of twelve or thirteen loped by (doubtlessly in search of more food), followed by her repulsive, axe-faced mother, who texted as she walked. This woman looked like she was about forty-three or forty-four but, as is often the case with these low-class specimens, she was probably ten years younger. Anyway, she was wearing a tank-top emblazoned with the following bold message:

"I ain't no second prize"

Icould feel my face twisting into a grimace as I thought, "Yeah, youdirty scrubber, you certainly ain't the second prize - you're the bloody wooden spoon".

I am reminded by by dad who always told me "everything in moderation". The same goes for texting. Without texting good luck getting a woman these days (especially if your under 30). Every chick I've been with since texting got big 5-6 years ago has been through texting. Girls love it and I am pretty darn good at it!

<div></div><div>So true haha, girls love it. Texting can get boring and repetitive, but for short answers I'll often send a txt rather than call a person. I try to keep my phone calls short and simple and to the point. SoI guess you could say I prefer texting. But face to face is still the best form of communication stil around. I just hope too many people don't begin to live through their phone.</div><div></div>

I guess Im referring to the obsessive ones WhiteCB. I saw on CNN how a woman was at a mall in Oregonand she was caught on a security camera falling into a waterfall/ pool becasue she had her head down and she was texting. I see people at stores pulling out there I phone look at it for 5 seconds and put it their pocket and 15 seconds later they pull it out and stare at it again. Its an addiction just like drugs or gambling. It needs to stop but never will.

Ive seen a new low today. While driving home I caught an asian girl jogging against traffic with only a very narrow 1 foot space or two of road to jog on. She was basically running very fast with her head down because she was trying to text with her fingers of the hand she was holding her iphone in. The fact that she was running agaist traffic with her head down is insane and trying to run at about 6 miles per hour while texting....? Who works out and has the coordination to try and pull this off. I feel like pulling my hair out. I did flip her off but she didint see me.
