Stanley Cup Playoffs

Way to go Penguins, sweeping Carolina.

Now it's on to the finals for the second season in a row and a big-time smackdown of jaxvid's Red Wings.

This finals rematch should be a improvement over last year. The Penguins have upgraded their talent and have another year of experience and I think they are tougher. They will need all that and then some against that machine that plays in Detroit. Those guys are like robots with a mean streak, you can't wait for them to make a mistake, you have to just outplay them. I predict a seven game series with Malkin scoring the winning goal in game 7 and Crosby being the MVP.

As is my custom I will take the "high road" on this issue and post a link to an on-line game "Smack a Penguin" which is exactly what the Red Wings are going to do!

Smack a Penguin

Wings go up 2 games to 0 over Pens. I thought the Pens outplayed the Wings tonight (which has not happened much in the playoffs) but Detroit's got the hot goaltender. Fleury looks shaky or at least unlucky as the Wings have got some good bounces.

I think Pittsburgh will win at home.

Unfortunately for Penguins fans, it's been deja vu all over again for the first two games. The silver lining is that last year they were badly outplayed in the first two in Detroit, but this time aroundthey've been much better. Their puck possession time is way up over last year, but the Red Wings still have stifled their ability to make big plays, and Detroit remains masterful at positioning and puck movement. And like jaxvid said, Fleury has been shaky. He has amazingly quick reflexes, but it's rare when he plays great for an entire game. There usually is at least one suspect goal given up. Also, he'spoor at managing the puck and getting it to defensemen. I hold my breath every time he ventures out of the cage.

But the key for the Pens is to somehow get their offense close to the high octane striking ability it had against the Flyers, Capitals and Hurricanes. Osgood hasn't faced enough really tough shots so far. They have to win Games 3 and 4 at home to have any chance.

does anyone know how the tv ratings were for game 2? i mean there was no basketball or anything else on to take viewers away.

100% of the TV's in my house were watching both games.

Lets GO PENS! Lets GO PENS!! Oh man I'm pumped for Game 5 tonight. We have ourselves a series now fellas. After the Wings went up 2-0 I thought it was over but the Penguins have been playing their asses off. Evgeni Malkin is my new favorite NHL player. The guy has 35 points in the playoffs! The Red Wings old age seemed to be catching up with them in game 4 as they looked exhausted.

This should be a good one tonight, Go Penguins! Glad that it's on NBC tonight so the whole country can watch one of the finest and most honorable professional sport there is filled with white warriors.

I hate the Red Wings.

And what's with the name Red Wings? Sounds like a bunch of commies to me.

The "hated" Red Wings laid one on the Penguins last night. 5-0 HA! The Penguins lost their composure and started to take bad penalties. One thing I hate about hockey is that when one team is getting blown out they start to act like idiots with cheap shots and fighting.

With all those violence prone, communistically inclined Euros on theRed (Commie Bastard)Wings, no wonder the Penguins were goaded into losing their composure.

Unfortunate that the Pens laid an egg last night. Obviously it was the absence of Georges Laraque that made the difference

How bout those PENS jaxvid? LOL! Oh what a game by Pittsburgh. Another clutch goal by Jordan Staal(and Kennedy) and some awesome goaltending from Fleury. Cannot wait for Game 7 on Friday!

I don't want this post-season to end. But since it does on Friday. . . Let's Go Pens! Let's Go Pens! Let's Go Pens!

Good game. At least it was a one goal game at the end which made for some excitement. Most of the others have been out of reach for the other team. The Wings were pretty close to tying it at the end several times. I like their chances at home. But either way it's been a good series.

Lol Don, exactly what I was wondering. Those commie bastards! Lets go Pens! Defend our country from these "Red Wings".

Here's an interesting tidbit I read in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

"The past 18 times an NHL final, NBA finals or World Series has gone to a seventh game, the home team has won.

"The last away club to win one of those was the 1979 Pirates, who claimed a championship in Baltimore."
All streaks must come to an end. Let's go Pens! Let's go Pens! Let's go Pens!

Congratulations Pittsburgh. Fleury's save at the end was historic.

Pittsburgh won when Hossa signed with the Wings. He disappeared in the playoffs and took up important ice time and a spot on the first line in return for NOTHING. Hockey is a weird game, lots of strange bounces and funny hops, and a matter of millimeters between goal and no goal. The "gods" were on the Pens side in this one as the talent was fairly even and both teams played hard.

Congratulations to the Penguins for pulling out a fine Stanley Cup Finals win tonight.

Both teams played really hard. Pittsburgh got lucky when Kronwall's (I think) bounced off the top of the goal. I was glad to see the Pens get another cup. Fleury's goaltending was also phenominal tonight. I also liked the way the rest of the team stepped up when Crosby was injured.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are the only sports team I follow with a passion, so this is as good as it gets as a fan. What a fun two months it's been watching them in the playoffs -- a great sport played all-out but with outstanding sportsmanship by warriors who combine superior athleticism with toughness and class.

Max Talbot scored both goals in Game 7 and was clutch all through the playoffs

Happy for all Penguins fans, tired of the Red Wings dominance and dynasty. It was a great series and Fleury now has a Stanley Cup and a thrilling last second game seven save to throw in his critics faces.
