When people hear the word slavery they think of rich white slave masters and black slaves. This certainly happened for a short period in time but slavery has been around for thousands of years and has affected people of all skin colors.
You don't get much whiter then your average Irish person, yet they were enslaved by the Icelandic landowners during the colonization of that island. Read the Icelandic sagas if you need proof. They are freely available online.
Icelandic people have actually been harder hit by slavery then anyone else in the world. In one day in 1682 alone 242 of them were captured and enslaved by north africans.
One of them "GuðrÃður SÃmonardóttir (1598 –1682) was one of 242 Icelanders, who were abducted from the Westman Islands in 1627 by Barbary pirates.
She was the wife of a fisherman, and a mother.
After her abduction she was sold into an Algerian seraglio, where she remained for ten years, until she could be ransomed together with a few others at the instigation of King Christian IV. of Denmark".
Slavery is not a black white issue. It is the powerful taking advantage of the weak. (Iceland and much of northern Europe was weaker in 1682 due to the mini ice age still being experienced at that time.)
