The idea of a Dzinziruk-Spinks fight seems almost too good to be true.

Will Spinks have the courage to take on Sergiy?

This would be a great fight. Another caste matchup to look forward to. Dzinziruk was also calling out Paul Williams who I believe is ducking him. He moved up in weight to face Pavlik. According to Williams trainer he said that Pavlik shoud be the easiest fight of Williams's career. Man I hope Kelly knocks this bum out.

Paul Williams-Sergiy Dzinziruk Talks To Begin This week

Sergiy Dzinziruk continues to follow the unsuccessful attempts to carry out the Paul Williams-Kelly Pavlik bout and claims that he is ready to meet The Punisher in the ring even if the Ukrainian doesn't have much time for the training camp. On Wednesday the junior middleweight WBO champion flies to the USA where he will begin the negotiations with Paul Williams' team.

BoxingScene.com: Sergiy, the bout between Paul Williams and Kelly Pavlik has been cancelled again, and there is a rumor that the promoters of Williams want to organize his bout with you on December, 5. What can you tell about it?

Sergiy Dzinziruk: Yes, I know about this variant, I've heard the talks about it. I'm interested in it, but the thing is I will fly to the USA on Wednesday, and only then we'll meet the promoters and will start negotiating the conditions. But I can say that if we manage to agree upon everything and make this bout happen, I'll be really glad.

BoxingScene.com: In that case you'll have only a bit more than a month for the training camp, is it enough for you?

Sergiy Dzinziruk: Of course, the lack of time isn't very good factor for me, but that's not a big deal. I keep myself in shape, work on my fitness all the time. I think that I'll be able to have a decent training camp even in a month and will reach my top form.

BoxingScene.com: Williams on the contrary has been preparing for this bout far too long, could it be to your advantage?

Sergiy Dzinziruk: Well, his bout with Pavlik has been cancelled several times, but still he's been training for this important fight and this date all this time, so, I think, he's the one who has an advantage in time.

BoxingScene.com: There were rumors about your bout with Cory Spinks, but now he has another opponent. Why weren't your negotiations successful?

Sergiy Dzinziruk: We didn't have direct contact with them, but there was a real possibility of this bout. At first Spinks and his camp were interested in it, but then they decided that it wasn't worth it to fight me and preferred to choose a weaker opponent. Let's say they decided not to take a risk, though it would have been interesting to make a unification bout.

BoxingScene.com: Any news from Universum? What is their reaction to your possible fight with Williams? What if they offer to take part in the organization of this bout [with Williams]?

Sergiy Dzinziruk: Maybe they want to take part in it, but I don't want to have any business with them. As of now they haven't contacted me or offered anything. If they do, I can think about it and analyze it. But actually I think that they will try to mess with this bout, do something nasty to undermine our negotiations, but we'll be ready for that.

BoxingScene.com: Some American boxing fans are pretty skeptical towards European champions. What can you tell them before beginning your career in the USA?

Sergiy Dzinziruk: Before the boxers from the former Soviet Union had an opportunity to become professionals Americans claimed that they were the strongest fighters in the world. But as soon as the gates were open, a lot of boxers from the USSR became professionals and now we see that there is a considerable amount of European champions and Eastern European as well. So I don't think that we can talk about American supremacy in boxing nowadays. I'm ready to fight any opponent and to prove that I'm a good boxer who is worth to represent his country.

The eastern European domination of boxing will not stop.  Fighters like Igor Michalkin, Alexander Povetkin, Oleg Platov, and Tomasz Adamek will not be slowed down.  I also expect several more champions in the lower weight divisions.  It only takes time.

From what I have read Williams is to fight White Latino Martinez in December.

Sergiy Dzinziruk Update

WBO light middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (36-0, 22 KOs) will resume his career in the USA. Sergiy says he is a free agent will sign with an American promoter. "I've solved all problems with my former German promoters and have broken off the contract. Now in America I'll also work with a known promoter. Two days ago I met the CEO of Top Rank Bob Arum. I have carried out negotiations and will make a decision. But I can say for sure you can see me in the USA. I promise that I'll show everyone what I'm capable of."Â￾

He continued, "Owing to the cessation of work with the German promoters, I didn't box for one year. I should have fought Paul Williams and James Kirkland, but [Universum Box-Promotion] couldn't get me fights with them. Now I'll fight with the best boxers at jr middleweight and everyone will learn that I'm the best boxer in the world.

"I met the president of the WBO and have agreed to fight the owner of the interim WBO light middleweight title Alfredo Angulo. The fight will take place in March 2010 in America. It'll be good fight,"Â￾ Dzinziruk told Fightnews.com.

What bothers me is that he hasn't fought since November of 08. An active Dzniziruk would school Angulo but a rusty inactive Dzinziruk...I don't know.

Hopefully the long layoff hasn't ruined him Sergiy.

His opponent Sherzod Husanov, who has excellent amateur credentials, is highly-regarded in Europe. Sergiy perhaps should have first had a warm-up before facing an opponent of this calibre.

New foe for Dzinziruk

WBO jr. middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (35-0, 23 KOs) has a new opponent for his sixth world title defense â€" Daniel Dawson (34-1, 24 KOs) will replace originally scheduled Sherzod Husanov of Russia. The fight will headline the ShoBox card on May 14 at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California. Due to a delay at the local consulate in Ekaterinburg, Russia, Husanov will not receive his passport in time for the fight.

<div id="line">Dzinziruk set
for US debut</span>
</font>

Tonight on SHOWTIME 11PM ET/PT</span></font>
</div>

By Graham

Showtime's ShoBox series usually focuses on young, up-and-coming
fighters, but this Friday's main event features a seasoned champion in
Sergiy Dzinziruk, a German-based Ukrainian who makes his U.S. debut.
Dzinziruk, an unbeaten southpaw, will be defending his WBO junior
middleweight belt against Daniel Dawson, an Australian fighter who has
lost just once in 35 bouts. Essentially this is a showcase for
Dzinziruk, who is jointly promoted by Gary Shaw and Art Pelullo. This is
Dzinziruk's first bout in 18 months after being in a contract wrangle
with Germany's powerful Universum outfit. </span>

Dawson, 32, is a former world kickboxing champion whose impressive
record has been built up against mostly undemanding opposition.

In Dawson's only bout against a top-class boxer he was well beaten on
points by fellow-Australian Daniel Geale in December 2007, although
Dawson was moving up from 154 pounds to meet a middleweight. Two judges
didn't give Dawson a round.

There seems, then, to be a considerable gulf in class here.

Dzinziruk, 34, is not widely known although he won the WBO belt more
than four years ago by outpointing Daniel Santos and has made five
successful defences. In his last fight, Dzinziruk outpointed Joel Julio,
and he will obviously be eager to get back into action and to show the
U.S. boxing public what he can do.

While Dzinziruk isn't exciting he is a solid technician, adept at
making an opponent miss and countering crisply. His right jab from the
southpaw posture is a stiff weapon â€" at times he was knocking back
Julio's head with the jab.

Dawson is known to be tough and game but he looks somewhat out of his
depth. Dzinziruk was a topflight amateur and he has boxed at a much
higher level than his opponent.

If this develops into a set-piece boxing match, Dawson will be
outclassed. His best hope would be to try to crowd Dzinziruk and outwork
him, and I expect him to try to do this. Dzinziruk had a difficult
fight against Lukas Konecny, who attacked in busy-punching bursts.
Still, on a night when he wasn't at his best, Dzinziruk still found a
way to win. He is a cool, steady, consistent type of boxer, but not what
you would call a hard hitter â€" just one stoppage win in his last seven
bouts.

Logically, this fight will go 12 rounds and Dzinziruk will win
comfortably on points. I think there is a chance of a class-difference
stoppage, however, with Dzinziruk peppering his man to such an extent
that the referee might start to feel that enough is enough.

If there is a referee's intervention, it most likely won't come until
late in the fight, as Dawson looks the sort who can soak up punishment.
I'm leaning a little towards Dzinziruk stopping his man around the 11th
round although on paper, of course, this has the look of a
full-distance bout.</font>

In a very one-sided bout, unbeaten WBO junior middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-0, 23 KOs) scored a tenth round TKO over late sub Daniel Dawson (34-2, 24 KOs) on Friday night at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California. Making his US debut, southpaw Dzinziruk demonstrated a stiff jab that dictated the pace. He didn't look like a fighter who had been out of action for 18 months, as he never let Dawson into the fight. The mismatch was waved off by referee Jose Cobian to save Dawson from further punishment at 2:12 of the tenth.

Excellent performance from Sergiy

Just finished watching him dominate a B level fighter with one of the best right jabs I have seen in a while. The ref called it before the Aussie suffered an on coming KO. George Foreman used to say " If you have a good jab, this game is easy!" Tonight it was play time for Sergiy.

Look forward to him against the elite fighters at 154 lbs.

I'd never seen this Dzinziruk guy but he sure looked sharp against the tough Aussie. Thing is, he's thirty five. I don't know why so many East Euros wait so long before they try to get something going in the States.
Still he looked good.

It was an impressive performance last night by Sergiy, he won every minute of every round and became the first to stop the less skilled but hard-punching and determined Dawson.

I'd like to see Dzinziruk in with the top light middleweights such as Williams, Angulo, Spinks, and the winner of Foreman-Cotto. Hopefully with his American promoter, those fights can now be made.

Angulo might be next for Sergiy. There's been some talk of them meeting and the Mexican holds the interim WBO title. I don't know if you saw him but he was sitting ringside with his promoter & manager scouting Sergiy.

According to the BoxRec schedule, Sergiy is fighting Ricardo Mayorga on HBO Oct 2.

This seems almost too good to be true.

"¢Junior middleweight titlist Sergei Dzinziruk's next fight will be on
HBO, co-promoter Gary Shaw told ESPN.com. "First quarter of 2011," Shaw
said. "I had a meeting with HBO on Monday, and he was a big part of the
discussion. They said they would put him on in the first quarter. I gave
them a list of opponents we would have no problem fighting. I would say
you're looking at February or March." Shaw said the list of opponents
Dzinziruk (37-0, 23 KOs) is willing to face includes Miguel Cotto, the
winner of Saturday night's Sergio Martinez-Paul Williams rematch, Vanes
Martirosyan or Kermit Cintron. "We're not looking to hide from anyone,"
Shaw said. Dzinziruk made his American debut in his last fight, stopping
Daniel Dawson in the 10th round on Showtime in his sixth title defense.
It was Dzinziruk's first fight in 18 months, partly because of a
dispute with former promoter Universum.

Well, I was looking forward to the Dzinziruk-Martinez fight in March on HBO. I always thought Sergei could be another Joe Calzaghe (a European fighter who gained recognition as a great boxer at the end of his career when he finally fought in the U.S.).

But I just found out that Dzinziruk hired Buddy McGirt as his trainer. Nothing is more certain in boxing than a Buddy McGirt fighter getting knocked out.

At least Dzinziruk will lose to a white man.

It looks like Dzinziruk will face negro Austin Trout who holds the WBA title in late August on HBO. Promotional issues have hurt the talented Ukrainian. He's only fought twice since 2008
Trout is a B-level fighter. The boxing media is hyping him as a possible next great black fighter in the lower weights. If Dzinziruk uses his vastly superior boxing skills, a UD is in the cards. I also believe Pirog and Geale are also fighting each other on the same HBO show. Sounds I will be home that Saturday!
