McKillop should have been drafted way before the fifth round. This "scouting" report on him that I just read is typical: "While he lacks the great upside, McKillop also has limited downside risk to his game." All he did was lead the country in tackles in 2007 with 155, then added 137 more last year. If that's not great "upside" then what is?

Nonethless, McKillop appears to have landed in a good spot with the 49ers as the heir apparent to Takeo Spikes as one of the team's starting inside linebackers alongside Patrick Willis. Their starting outside LBs are bothvery unproductive but Willis is excellent.

This is from a 49ers blog:

Inside Linebackers the Heart of 49ers Defense

After examining the 49ers' defensive linemen, it's time to look at the group playing behind them. We'll start with the inside linebackers, who, of course, are headlined by two-time Pro Bowler Patrick Willis. Look for the 49ers to keep four, maybe five, inside linebackers.

Scott McKillop. 6-1, 244. The 49ers have been searching for two years for a future "Ted" linebacker to be the Robin to Willis' Batman. After finding McKillop in the fifth round of the draft, they could hardly contain themselves. Of all the team's draft picks - a list that includes Michael Crabtree, mind you - team officials were most jazzed about McKillop, perhaps because he projects as the perfect complement to Willis. I was on hand for all the Senior Bowl practices this year. A typical running play went something like this: Hand off to the back. Big pile after two yards. Players get up and McKillop is at the bottom with his arms around the runner's ankles.

A former wrestler, McKillop definitely has the grit for one of the more blue-collar positions on the team. What he showed this spring is perhaps more athleticism than he was given credit for entering the draft. As Takeo Spikes proved last year with three interceptions, the "Ted" linebacker has plenty of pass-coverage duties and can be a big playmaker in the passing game. At least early on, McKillop has shown he can keep pace with running backs and tight ends downfield.

The bottom line is that Willis has shown he has Hall of Fame potential. To reach that summit, he needs to play a long time and he needs to have good players around him. McKillop won't play a lot on defense this year unless Spikes gets injured. But he certainly looks like the long-term answer at the position.

Funny how productive whites can always be labeled "unathletic" and can slip into the latter rounds. Here's to hoping this guy has a Zach Thomas type career

Zach Thomas is a very good comparison to McKillop. All they do is make tackle after tackle after tackle, yet somehow lack "athleticism." Mike Singletary was in his own way an "overachiever" in the NFL as a MLB, so if he has any fairness as a coach he will see a lot of himself in McKillop and play him right from the get-go.

yea i seem to remember some sports writer describing singletary as an overachiever whose aggression and competitiveness made him the player he was. i dont really know first hand since he was a little before m time. but i actually really like singletary, real old school no nonsense kinda guy, and was a heck of a MLB, for a lot of franchises he would be the best MLB in their team histories, but for the bears i would put him third, directly behind number 2 urlacher with number one being, of course, Dick Butkus.

I just posted about McKillop in the preseason thread. He had 7 solo tackles tonight, 3 more than anyone else on the team. He's going to be very, very good. The only question is how long he'll be forced to serve his racial apprenticeship.

Takeo Spikes has yet to practice this week due to a shoulder injury. McKillop may get his first NFL start on Sunday. He has done quite well so far this season as a special teamer and with spot play at ILB.

McKillop by all accounts is the aging, injury prone Spikes' heir apparent. The only question is how long his racial apprenticeship will have to be given that this tackling machine wasn't drafted until the fifth round. Laurinitis and Cushing have been superb right off the get-go as rookie starters. Clay Matthews is coming on strong. Hopefully Mike Singletary won't jerk Scott around for years as he's ready to play and succeed now.

McKillop dropping to the 5th round was a joke. He tested out solid for a LB prospect at the combine- and your words "tackling machine" describe him perfectly Don. The guy has phenomenal instincts for making plays and that's a key trait of a ILB!

Looks like the country's best tackling linebacker in college is being transformed into a White Special Teams Demon with zero opportunity to become a starter. McKillop had all of one series as a starter before being demoted:

Niners Interested in Inside Linebackers

The 49ers are in the market for an inside linebacker. They recently hosted Dolphins free-agent Akin Ayodele, and they are doing a lot of homework on inside linebackers in the draft. National Football Post, for example, wrote today that the team has shown interest in Mississippi State's Jamar Chaney and Duke's Vincent Rey. I have independently learned that they also will take a close look at South Carolina's Eric Norwood, who is admittedly more of a Parys Haralson-like outside linebacker. A 49ers linebackers coach - they have three - is expected to work out both Rey and Norwood next week in North Carolina.

The 49ers are looking at Ayodele as a back up for Takeo Spikes, 33, at "Ted" linebacker, and they are presumably looking at rookies (at least Chaney and Rey) for the same role. Why would they do so, you might ask, when they drafted Scott McKillop for that same role in the fifth round last year? The reason is that the coaching staff has doubts about McKillop and doesn't trust him as Spikes' primary backup. Mike Singletary has a very specific idea for how his inside linebackers should perform, and McKillop didn't meet those expectations last season. Singletary wants his linebackers to take on blockers and slam into offensive lineman. McKillop's instinct was to slip those blocks and go after the football.

What's more, McKillop didn't adapt during the season. When Spikes went down with a hamstring injury against Chicago Nov. 12, McKillop immediately went into the game to replace him. But when the defense came out the following series, off-the-street veteran Matt Wilhelm was in the game and Wilhelm served as Spikes' primary backup for the rest of the season. McKillop was limited to special teams, where he played well. But that is not what the 49ers expected when they drafted him.

McKillop's out for the year. From what I read of the play he was leaping and twisting, trying to make a play and came down awkwardly. Reminds me of the play in which Peyton Hillis was injured in '08 after taking over at RB -- McKillop was probably trying to make a play he shouldn't have but felt compelled to because of all the pressure on him. Mike Singletary had already ridden him hard last year and consigned him to special teams, which looked to be his permanent place after the 49ers draftedthe black ILB Bowman in the third round in April.

All McKillop did at Pitt was lead the country in tackles as a junior and nearly did so again as a senior. But because he was drafted late (5th round) and by the wrong team, he never had a chance.

49ers LB Scott McKillop tore his ACL and patella tendon, according to Sacramento Bee. McKillop is expected to miss the entire season. He led the team in special teams tackles in 2009 and was expected to serve the same role in 2010 while backing up Takeo Spikes at "ted" linebacker. The injury opens the door for Matt Whilhelm and NaVorro Bowman.

McKillop was waived by the 49ers after his injury. Did he ever get drafted by the wrong team. I really thought Mike Singletary would see a lot of himself in McKillop (as a fellow"overachiever" type) and let him play but he was treated roughly from day one, much like Chase Coffman has been in Cincy so far. Can't say for sure of course but it looks like Singletary didn't see enough melanin in McKillop to meet his standards. I'll be surprised if he has an NFL career after this. Edited by: Don Wassall

Mike's another turd who talks glowingly about his white wife and is a folk-hero to the sissy DWF's, yet wants to be surrounded by a mostly black-team. Doc Rivers, Marvin Lewis and Dennis Green fit this mold also. Matter of fact, it's amazing how anti-white it seemed Green was, considering he's been married to like 3 different white-women.

What if the tables were turned?

Does anyone think, for example, former Northwestern star/Jetspractice squad scrubwide receiver Brian Musso (who is white and married to a coal-black singer) would want to field a close to all-white team if he ever became aBig Tencoach in any sport?

Or, does anyone think ex-NHLforward Russ Courtnal (married to a small-time black celeb) would hate on the 2 or 3 black players in Atlanta if he became coach of the Thrashers tommorow?

I highly doubt it. My guess is he'd slobber all over the Thrashers mullatto's.

Blacks that have "white woman fetish" only want to mongrelize the White race and PO the White man. If you aim to mongrelize someone, which is exactly what White/black miscegenation is, that can never equate to respect or to "loving White people."

Most of these "Afro-coaches" are short and fat, and since the media constantly pushes the idea that Whites are a small race and have small dicks, it makes total sense that these black loser coaches don't want VIRILE, White Hercules-type studs on their teams.

BTW, Musso's Trinidadian wife is sweet looking, and her preacher daddy had to just accept his daughter's love of Ivory. Musso "scored" big-time compared to Singletary (with his wife).

Dennis Green's biggest contribution to miscegenation wasn't through marrying white wives, it was through raising a son that rapes infants (I assume the babies are white. Otherwise it would've been on the news tonight).
Of course they can't have kids yet, but they'll be some messed-up mudsharks in 14 years.

Perhaps I differ from others at this site, but if posters here constantly dog Kendra Wilkinson types as "mudsharks" and mock them as being traitors, I can't see why they'd think someone like Musso snatched a great wife. His wife might be a pleasant looking black woman to some**, but I still think he should've stuck to his own race (or if he had to go exotic, scored a light skinned Asian or Latina)-- and she should've listened to her family and stuck to her own race. But that's just me, I couldn't imagine wanting children that were a completely different race.

By the way, Mussowas a third generation college football star. I see him and his wife had a son last year. My guess is even ifthe sonwas born with half the grid-iron talent his father and grandfather possesed, he'll be allowed to be a big-time NFL star, something Brian and senior were not allowed to do.

Anyone remember Anthony DiCosmo from BC and the XFL?

Read an article once where his high school coach couldn't get top 20 teams to look at him. Eventually it dawned on him thatrecruiters probably figured he was white. Eventually he phoned all the top schools and told them he was a mullatto kid, adopted by an older Italian women. From there on in,DiCosmo was one of the hottest WR prospects in the nation, even though he was just another overrated WR with no hands and average speed

My guess is little Musso is already a must recruit for college coaches and DWF's will adore him

I don't want to have a black kid, either, but there doesn't seem to be an epidemic of White athletes with black girlfriends/wives. In that context, Musso doesn't bother me at all.

If I ever met him and his family, I'd be cordial and respectful. Maybe he is a leftist or something, I don't know, but who am I to tell him who he should be with? If a White man is going to mix, I don't think that it's worse if he mixes with a Caribbean black women rather than a squat Asian.
