Well it appears that McGuffie's transfer is in fact due to wanting to be closer to home and help his brother and the fact that he had 3 concussions; locker room problems with other players doesn't appear to be the factor.
I am angry that after the guy has 2 concussions that Rodriguez would put him in the most dangerous position in football to return another kickoff. What the hell was Rich Rod thinking? If a guy has had more than one concussion already in his freshman year from some vicious hits wouldn't most coaches take a precautionary stance and take him off kick-off duty? I am angry about this; McGuffie is too valuable as a RB to be returning kickoffs when he already had had concussion problems.
Maybe sitting out a year will allow him to recover and he won't get concussions anymore at A&M. I really hope so because concussions can become a recurring problem once you have more than one. I'd like to see him rush for 10,000 yards in the NFL someday and have a long and healthy career. I am not angry at the fellow Michigan players or the fans, but I am disappointed in RR for not taking precautions after Sam had a second concussion. It is also a coaches job to protect his players as well as help them become stars on the football field.
The good thing is that most of the Michigan fans reviews of him has been positive and they are wishing him the best. McGuffie should probably be used at first at A&M as part of a duel threat backfield when he is finally eligible as a precaution. 12-18 carries a game sounds about right. What do you guys think? I'd hate to see these concussion problems recur again.
Also, If he can add about 10 lbs. he won't get knocked back as hard when he gets hit. I do believe that there a few defensive players in every conference from Urban areas that would want to hit a white skill player harder, but for the most part these kind of injuries just happen as part of the game.
I wish Sam the best. Here are some articles on the situation.

RB Sam McGuffie leaving Michigan
By MARK SNYDER - FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER - December 12, 2008
Sam McGuffie is leaving the Michigan football program.
The freshman tailback's one season at U-M ended with a transfer, the Free Press has confirmed, a decision McGuffie made public Friday through an interview with TheWolverine.com.
The decision does not come as much of a surprise following coach Rich Rodriguez's recent comments.
Last Saturday, Rodriguez said he had met with McGuffie a few times since the end of the season and the tailback had not made a definite decision about his future. But in his comments the past few weeks, Rodriguez admitted that McGuffie had challenges being so far away from home, including a brother in Texas who was partially his responsibility to care for, as well as some of McGuffie's medical concerns after suffering three concussions while playing this season.
McGuffie did not attend the season-ending team banquet as the other seniors and returning players did.
He went home the last week of the season following a death in his family but returned late in the Ohio State week and appeared on the field for one play, a return, when he was hit so hard he suffered his third concussion.
McGuffie's season totals of 486 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, plus 19 catches for 175 yards and one touchdown in 10 games, were impressive. But most of the production came early in the season, including 100-plus-yard rushing games against Notre Dame and Toledo.
He was the first true freshman tailback to start a season opener for Michigan in the modern era and started the first six games before being replaced by junior Brandon Minor.
McGuffie is expected to attend a school in Texas, having strongly considered Texas A&M and Baylor.
McGuffie joins a growing list of players apparently not returning from this season's team. Rodriguez has confirmed that Zion Babb, Jason Kates and Artis Chambers are transferring, and said last Saturday that Carson Butler and Avery Horn appear to be going as well. Rodriguez said offensive lineman Cory Zirbel's playing career is over after a devastating knee injury.

Here are some of the positive comments on these articles about Sam from readers.
...Sam was definitely a talented player. We hope that he will find a good niche somewhwere, as he deserves it. No one ever wants to see a player get injured. It is too bad.
Bee-Line is doing the job with Michigan Basketball. Yes, it takes time and there will always be setbacks, but he is a good coach.
RR should be able to turn around football very fast. Clearly Michigan has more football talent than any team in the Big Ten, with the exception of OSU.
...Mcguffie has some real potential and I thought that he had the talent to be the big man on campus next year. I was surprised at his level of toughness at the ND game when he was tackled with one leg behind him and a defender falling down on it. When he got up and just shook it off I was really impressed. I think that he was probably not ready for the hard hits that the Big Ten delivers. I hope he finds that this was a good decision. If he wants to be closer to Mom and home I can understand that but the toughness can be developed and if he had any plans on playing on Sundays he probably will not get picked by the Texans or the Cowboys so eventually he will have to leave Mom anyway. Oh well, hopefully Shaw can take up the slack and we have some new guys coming in that may fill the void. Sam if you read this Good Luck wherever you go as long as you don't go to Ohio State like Boren did.GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
