I dont play Madden, but one of you guys will have to remember when the game comes out to tell us what speed rating Matt gets.

I've always suspected as much, it seems they've been voicing their disgust a lot more lately.

Sean Considine put on 17 lbs to be better prepared for his starting role. he is now at 215 (6'1 height)

Some video game websites like IGN.com will post all the players' ratings in the next few weeks or so before the game hits shelves. They do it every year. I'll keep an eye out for it and post the link when I see it so we can all have a good laugh about white athletes with 42" verticals with JUMP ratings of 60 (Scott Fujita).

Let's not forget how Matt Giordano made up an amazing amount of ground on Hester in the Super Bowl during Hester's long kickoff return. Why isn't Giordano considered potential starting material? Not smart enough?

Giordano not only caught up to Hester from behind after having to run all
the way across the field, he also had to run down the field on the kickoff. He
probably ran 150 yards on that play.

thanks Don. and, yes, Giordano should be starting in this league, either at safety or at corner, no doubt. he's a complete package and extremely athletic, too. i hope that either Colts will see it or once his contract is up he will move on to be a starter somewhere.

speaking of safeties that don't get a fair look, i wanted to mention a guy who few of you may know about... his name is Jeremy Unertl. he played at tiny Wisconsin La-Crosse University, but he is an amazing physical specimen who rapidly turned into a tremendous football player. although he only received the most cursory of glances by the NFL...

Jeremy began his post-collegiate career as an undrafted and virtually unwanted rookie free agent with the Green Bay Packers, but they were unsure what to do with this "safety" whose measurables and cover skills were so taboo as to be completely shunned. it's a miracle that he even got a shot, because with measurables like these, how could he possibly contribute to a "real" team?

Unertl, 6 feet 1 1/2 inches and 210 pounds, had more than just prototypical size. He also ran sub-4.4 40-yard dashes for scouts in spring 2002, vertical jumped 41 inches and went over 11 feet in the broad jump.


By comparison, Darren Sharper was 6-1 1/2 and 204, ran in the 4.5s, had a vertical jump of 39 and a broad jump of 10-4 in 1997 when the Packers made him their second-round draft choice.

so they cut him after their summer mini-camps and even before their training camp started.they wouldn't want that kind of specimen on the field! how embarrassing!


undeterred, he signed back on with Green Bay on January 1 the following year and went to NFL Europe.

as a five-game starter at safety and six-game starter at cornerback he played an integral role in the Frankfurt Galaxy's drive to the championship.


Unertl's defensive coordinator overseas, Bob Valesente, had been Sharper's position coach for two seasons in Green Bay. Unertl reminded Valesente of the young Sharper.


"He told me, 'You have so many of the same abilities that Sharper had,'" Unertl said. "I just feel my potential is so great because I haven't learned much yet. You just hope that someone takes a liking to you and works with you."

Unertl has been an impact player on Frankfurt's defense, helping the top-ranked unit surrender just 182 points this season, fewest in NFL Europe. He finished tied for the league lead with four interceptions, totaled 29 tackles, nine passes defensed and one forced fumble.


Unertl also improved his game on special teams, which will be a major help when he returns to Green Bay to compete for a roster spot.

of course the Packers were thrilled by their phenomenally gifted and raw cornerback who still had so much upside.

but they wanted him to put on weight to be more physical against the run as a strong safety. say what?


they cut him. again.


now, Unertl is one of the most dominant defenseive specialists in the Arena League, where he is perenially among the league leaders in interceptions and passes defensed.

just imagine how good he might be if he had some talent...

Came from Wisconsin-Lacrosse? I think that is the same place Bill Schroeder played at. It must be where great white athletes in Wisconsin go to since they can't get 1-A scholorships in-state since the University of Wisconsin is more comfortable importing ghetto blacks from around the country to their quiet campus.

Must also be a school the Packers go to get their white "mascots".
